Petpet Rescue: The Horrors of the Mines: Part One by ridergirl333 | |

"Come here, Barbhead. Yes, that's a good Barbat." My name
is RubyRainbow333 the rainbow Uni, And I was playing with Barbhead, my Barbat.
"Coooooo, RubyRainbow333." Barbhead responded.
"Yes, that's a very good Barbat." I rubbed my
Barbat's tummy lovingly. Barbat giggled. "Coooooooo."
Then, a sudden crashing sound from outside Made
me jump. Vibrations from the crash shook the earth, And a picture from my wall
fell. Glass from my sister's pink mirror shattered, Sending shards of razor-sharp
glass Scattered on the floor. A tree on the other side of the window lost most
of its leaves.
Then, a massive face blocked the view of the
tree. A terrible face. Bright green eyes flashed dangerously. Lots of dagger-like
teeth shone in the sunlight. A clawed hand reached forward And ripped the glass
right out of my window, Allowing a bunch of Korbats to come in.
"Leave the Uni!" the Grarrl outside the window
roared. "I want that Barbat!"
The reality of what was happening sunk in. Terror
gripped my senses, And I clung tightly to my Barbat. I knew who these Neopets
were. They were petpet kidnappers, And they forced young petpets to work in
the ruby mines. Horrible things happened in the mines.
I wanted to run, To hide, To bring my precious
Barbhead far away from here. I at least wanted to be able to scream, But my
panic-struck mind wouldn't even let me do that.
"Okay, Uni," one of the Korbats snarled. "Hand
over the Barbat and no one will get hurt." Cautiously, he approached me. Fearful
and angry, I struck at him with my back hooves. "Leave now!" I yelled.
The Korbat went flying into a wall. But he recovered
quickly. Too quickly. He rubbed his injured head a little And then issued orders
to his minions. "Get that Barbat! Use force, if necessary! It's only a little
Uni."
Korbats swarmed over me, Scratching at my face
And tearing at my nose, Their tiny little claws searching for the things that
would put me out of action; My eyes. All I could see was the shifting colors
of Korbat wings And the almost mechanical rage of the Korbats' eyes. Viciously,
I kicked out at them with my hind hooves, My fore hooves hanging desperately
on to Barbhead. I could feel his fright, The rapid pitter-patter of his tiny
heart.
If I lost Barbhead, I'd never forgive myself.
He has been my companion for well over a year. He was one of my first friends.
When I first received him, I thought he was dumb and ugly. I named him "Barbhead"
to show my distaste. Eventually, I grew to love him. Especially when he said
my name. "Coooooo RubyRainbow333" I remembered the time When I was learning
to ride a bike. Barbhead tied himself to the handlebars and "Coooooo"ed at me
for moral support. (He and I suffered a lot of injuries that way.) Then, there
were Battledome memories. He and I fought the Chia clown side-by-side, And won.
What a sweet victory that was! A harsh shriek snapped me out of my daydream.
A piercing, high-pitched, terrible shriek Then, I realized that the shriek was
coming from the tiny blue bundle in my arms. Korbats were gripping Barbhead's
legs, Refusing to let go. They had my Barbat!
I let out a shriek, Not dissimilar to the one
I had heard from Barbhead. Soon, we were both shrieking together, One loud,
shrill, piercing note. I was so busy screaming, I accidentally let go of Barbhead.
"You put up a great fight, pony," the lead Korbat
chuckled. "But this is the last you'll see of your Barbat. Let's go, boys."
They scampered off over the horizon, With the
big Grarrl. I watched them go, tears stinging my eyes. It was all my fault.
I had let them take my Barbhead. I hadn't been focused enough And I had let
them take him. But I was going to get him back.
To be continued...
