Everyone loves having trophies for either themselves, or their pets. The Beauty
Contest is a good and fun way to get a unique trophy for your pet. If you haven't
heard of this contest before, please visit the Beauty Contest main page for
more info. What we have to do in this particular contest, is to dress up our
pets in a unique style, and enter the picture into the contest.
One might think, "oh that's easy! I'm such a good artist, everyone will vote
for my great drawing of my pet!" Well, yes, artwork does give you an advantage,
but let me assure, there is more to it.
If you've been checking up on the beauty contest on a regular basis, you may
realise that the pets' voting range may vary from 800+ to even maybe just 1
vote. Why is there such a large difference? In usual cases, if you only look
at the art work, players ages 16+ might get more votes because their art is
better than ones drawn by 7 year olds. That is obvious. However, what REALLY
happens in the REAL world might be just the opposite of that. (i.e. art by 7
year olds get more votes than ones drawn by 16+)
But why is this so you may ask?
This is what took these pets to be up the top... SUPPORT!!! Yes, support, from
people. This also makes the competition fairer to NeoPets players at all ages.
In voting competitions, only being good at what you produce is not enough, you
will need people's support so that you will get the many votes you've longed
for, and reach the top!
Beauty is not everything!
Now let me list some places/methods where you can get votes from:
THE GUILD YOU BELONG TO
Yes, YOUR guild. As sunshinemonkey83 mentioned in his article
in week 8, don't be a guild hopper. Don't go jumping around guilds telling them
to vote, because you most probably wouldn't get any votes that way! Be nice
and become known in your guild, this way you'll get to know many friends, and
when you're in doubt, they're most probably to help you out. Remember, Friendship
is precious and priceless!
CHAT BOARD
There's a "Beauty Contest" section in the chat boards, post your advertisement
there, and see if anyone will vote for you. Remember, don't say "if you vote
for me I'll give you 1000 NP" because that will be cheating! However, it's legal
to exchange votes between voters. Again, that's how people gain votes, and pull
each other to the higher ranks of the contest. And during the process, so you
might start to make some new friends too :) you might start chatting about art...
or recent life... and get to know each other from this lovable experience (of
getting votes).
YOUR NEOFRIENDS
How can I stress this more? Friendship is the most important thing at all times.
I'll repeat once more just for the sake of emphasizing: When you're in doubt,
your friends are the ones who would most probably help you out! When you ask
for votes, kindly ask them and don't give them a feeling of being forced. You
might even try to ask them to tell their friends about it ;) Advantage here:

SHOP HISTORY
If people have been shopping at your shop and bought items over 300 NP, their
names will be logged in your shop history. How will they help you with your
voting? Once again, ask kindly and don't force them. Forcing gives an uncomfortable
feeling. For example, in your Neomail, thank them for buying Grundo Stix from
your shop, and ask would they like to help you out by casting a vote for your
pet. Once again, watch your language and be nice!
Above are some of the many ways where you can gain votes from. Hope this article
helped many of you out there who were having trouble with the beauty contest.
