Tricks of the Poor by sugarbaby0013 | |
You could ask just about any expert millionaire owner in Neopia, and they would
all tell you that being poor is the worst and hardest part of owning a pet.
Whether you're new at Neopets or just a rich, impulsive buyer, getting to be
poor is really simple and getting rich again can be practically impossible.
So, how about instead of me telling you about how to get devastatingly poor,
I give you some tricks to getting out of, or at least surviving, poverty?
First, a key tip to anyone who is a new shopper. NEVER buy anything from the
main shops (i.e. the food shop, book shop, pharmacy) or the Neopian Bazaar (i.e.
grooming parlour, toy shop, Pizzaroo). If you don't know any types of Neopian
items, you could always look around and find something good, but don't buy it!
After you have picked out something, you can go to a basic place that won't
really give away any NP per say, but will get cheap prices on the products you
want. This place is the Shop Wizard, which looks like a blue tent on the shopping
bar. You type in what you want, and search for it. This will give the location
of the place to get the cheapest item of your choice in Neopia! This is the
only place I will go to shop!
The next place to go is one of the best-kept secrets in Neopia…the Giant
Omelette! This is a huge omelette (obviously) in Tyrannia. To get to Tyrannia,
click "explore" on the left, and choose Tyrannia on the map. Once you get there,
go to the plateau. You should immediately see a huge yellow rectangular thing.
Click on it, and be sure to "grab some omelette". Voila! A free meal! Which
leads me to my next tip…
OMELETTES!!! These things are great! For the price of one omelette (usually
around 15 NP) you can get 3 bites…that's a great deal! So, if you have a pet
that says their "hungry", have it eat an omelette, and on its first bite it
will be not hungry, on it's second bite it will be fine, and by the times done,
it will be satiated! 15 NP for 3 meals! Now THAT'S NP well spent! Another point
about omelettes is there is a lot of variety for the flavors. Some good ones
are plain, carrot & pea, cheese, bacon, sausage and pepperoni, green pepper,
bacon & broccoli, sausage, cheese & onion, and even BBQ sauce!
Another place for free food is for the truly poor. This is the Soup Kitchen.
You can only get handouts here if you have less than 1,000 NP. If you are that
poor, got to the market place and click on the big cauldron. The kind Soup Faerie
will offer to feed your pets, and if you accept, she will give you some free
soup. But remember- the soup kitchen is only supported by donations to the money
tree, and so when your one of those expert millionaire owners I mentioned earlier,
be sure to give up some precious NP.
While I'm on the topic of it, how about a quick tip about the money tree?
Read my lips…DON'T EVEN TRY!!!! Think about this… Neopets has 18,000,000 owners,
each up for a free item or some NP. Usually, at one time there will be four
or five items or NP bags up for grabs. You don't need to be Albert Einstein
to figure out those numbers (which would be a about a WHOLE lot compared one
little you). But still, when you are rich be sure to donate, because at least
one owner in Neopia will benefit from your generosity.
This next one you will hear a lot about when asking for help getting NP. If
you want a quick, easy way to get NP, I have one word for you… GAMES! OK, so
it might sound really dumb to a new owner…but maybe there's something that you
don't know about the Neopets games. Not only are they fun, but also…brace yourself…you
can actually earn NP!! By playing games, you can earn NP for playing well. Although,
keep in mind…some games are easier to earn NP with then others. Some easier
ones to score points on…
Kiko Match - Get at least 110 points and your score is doubled! NP for
each point.
Meerca Chase - Score 600 points or more and get a magical plushie (CAUTION:
use plushie at your own risk!)! NP for each point.
Diva Starz - No strategy whatsoever- probably easiest game in Neopia.
NP for each point.
Okay, so I have been giving games huge hype so far. BUT gamers beware! Even
in real life (that's right…Neopia is a fantasy world…sorry for that gripping
bit of reality!), everyone knows that there's those stupid claw games you can
never win and frustrating Vegas slot machines that you have to pull the handle
25 times to even get your money back. This is the same in Neopia. You know that
section in games called "Luck/Chance" with the smirking Wocky on the front?
Enter if you dare. Some of these games can actually make you LOSE NP if your
not careful! Look out for these scoundrels…
The Wheel of Excitement - 100 NP a spin. Chances are, you'll get your
money back, but still don't get too wild!
The Wheel of Mediocrity - 50 NP a spin. On this wheel, there are some
"prizes" that could hurt you more then help you.
Scorchy Slots - Only 5 NP a spin, but still…it takes a WHOLE lot of
spins to get anything worthwhile, and 5 NP turns into 50 NP pretty quickly!
Just to let you know…before I harshly dis' every Luck/Chance game, I should
probably clue you into some somewhat fairer, cheaper ones…
Deckswabber - Can't lose any NP. I really consider this more of a puzzle
or action game, actually. You can earn precious *Dubloons* (more on that later)
if you're really good at this!
Fruit Machine - Actually, this a rare fix for you Vegas addicts out
there…It's free! I don't really know any other slots that are free off hand,
but you only get one spin a day! L!
Gormball - As far as I know, you can't lose any NP of this game.
You'll probably notice in the Luck/Chance section something called Neopian
Stock Market. This is not a game. Neopia actually does have a Stock Market.
I felt like mentioning it and also giving you a tip…I don't know anyone who's
earned or lost a whole lot from this. If you're really having a tough time managing
you're money, don't get yourself into this.
I know a few people who have a NeoPet only to be able fight in the Battledome.
The Battledome is great for Pokemon fans, and although I don't fight in it,
I recommend it for those who like that sort of thing. Unfortunately, I really
would recommend you hold off on the Battledome until you work up a savings.
Like I said, I don't know much about the Battledome, but as far as I know there
is no fee per say to get in and fight. But, once when I tried it out, I found
the real cash is lost when buying supplies. For instance, a basic defence tool
is the Battle Muffin (no, that's NOT a typo!). This alone costs about 200 NP.
Just imagine the cost of some other more advanced weaponry! Sheesh! So, when
you're well to do, I say, "GO for it!" Otherwise, expect a "Fuhget about it!"
Next, I'm going to ask you to excuse me… I'm afraid I have to be a little
bit frank. You new owners have (I'm sorry to say) scrawny, wimpy, pathetic pets.
Most of your pets are probably on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd levels. This makes it
very tempting to get them into a training school to make them strong, smart,
whatever. Well, all you owners with big plans, here's a bite out of reality
pie (yum…)…just like a real college or private school, it's pretty darn expensive
to get in to the Neopian schools! Unlike other places, the Training School on
Mystery Island and The Academy on Krawk Island do not except NP as payment for
your pet's studies. The Training School will only except code stones, and The
Academy only accepts Dubloons. While you can only get Dubloons by doing well
on Pirate games, code stones are a little bit tougher, ranging around, oh, 3,500
NP! So, once you are financial ready go for the gold, but remember… your pets
can (and will) wait… there's no hurry to get them in at an early age!
Quick Tip: Some of you Rich-gone-poor owners may have visited my previous
shop "*cutie boutique*". Sorry, but it's officially closed now. Anyway, a good
method for when you open up your own shop is to try to make the merchandise
similar. *Cutie Boutique* was all make-up. That way, if someone came looking
for red lipstick, they might also have some blue nail varnish or tan blush catch
their eye too. Get the picture? Inexperienced or one-stop shoppers are always
gaga for everything they want in one place, even if your prices are a bit, um,
steep shall we say?
Well, that's about all my secrets I'm ready to reveal. If this article gets
into the Times, I'm going to pamper my pet to death! She hates my thriftiness!
