Without NeoPets by child_dragon | |
SLOTH'S LAIR - Recently, my computer has crashed in a most spectacular way.
For once, it is not a software problem. It is a hardware problem, meaning it's
going to take time and money to fix it. A lot of money, most likely. With that
in mind, I have migrated to the school computers to do my writing, although
I am severely limited in my activities. For one thing, I can't access NeoPets.
So how on earth am I coping? Well, badly. But I've developed a plan to deal
with the sudden and abrupt loss of NeoPets that should help anyone else unfortunate
to be stuck in a similar situation.
Phase One: Denial. Upon realising you are hereby banned from NeoPets, you're
mind kicks into over gear. This can't be happening to you! So what to do? Reboot
the computer a couple times, turn it on and off, and dismantle it at least once.
Failing that, you migrate to another computer, school, library, etc., only to
discover that the blocking software designed to "protect" you blocks NeoPets!
Next step: rant, rave, cry, get kicked out of the library and never allowed
back in. Congratulations, you are ready for the next step.
After denial comes acceptance. So you can't get on NeoPets. There's more to
life than feeding, playing, and battling with your beloved pets, right? You
try to continue on with your life, finding other amusements to distract you
while your pets sit in limbo. But you can't be rid of NeoPets entirely, and
for some reason, cute little Zafaras keep appearing in the form of doodles in
your notes, which leads me to the next step.
You eventually realise that you will get NeoPets back at some time. Whether
it takes a week, a month, or only a couple of days, you will get to see your
pets again. In the meantime, why not do something productive? Turn those doodles
into a real work of art, and send it in to the art gallery. Write a short story,
article, or series for The Neopian Times. If you can't send it in right away,
you will still have something impressive for when you do get your computer back.
Just because you can't visit your pets, you can still be part of Neopia. Find
a friend who plays to keep you updated on the happenings. Who knows? Maybe this
friend will even let you borrow their computer long enough to put your pets
in the Neolodge.
In any case, as strange as it may sound, you can survive without NeoPets. After
the initial withdrawal syndromes, it actually becomes quite easy to live a "normal"
life. Now, if you excuse me, I have student-teacher conference to attend. Something
about the strange creatures appearing on all my homework....
Authors note: Special thanks goes to Sabreur for taking care of my pets
and keeping me updated on events in Neopia. I hope you get your computer fully
working again, along with your poor roommate's. And Melody, good luck with your
computer. (Yes, the child_dragon clan is having "slight" difficulties with technology!) |
