Restock!!

by lavenderamethyst

MARKETPLACE - Sometimes you wonder to yourself: Why exactly am I so dirt poor while all of my friends can buy a ton of unbuyables and still be rich? In frustration, you come to this article. I am going to answer your question, and hopefully, make you quite rich! Firstly, you probably have not discovered the wonderful secret of restocking.

What is Restocking, or as most people call it... RSing? Restocking is an art. Restocking, basically, is buying from the main shops during the time when they stock and trading it or selling it in your own shop for a nice little profit. Only... the profit is not exactly... little. Yep, you guessed it, this is making NP, even though you are spending it! Accompanied by several screenshots (each with notes on them), this guide is one of the most complete to the ART of restocking. Yeah, it's an ART.

To get started, you must know that you must NOT give up. It may seem really hard and really frustrating at first, but eventually, you will get the hang of it. To start off, hopefully your connection is a cable connection or higher. A simple dial-up will also work, but do not expect as high or easy results as a fast connection would net you. If in the event that you do have a dial-up, instead of going to the magic shop or Battledome magic shops, go to either the book or toy shops. It sells slower yes, but it still makes you a profit. Make sure you have anywhere from 5,000 NP to 50,000 NP on you (since we are beginning, 5K (K=1000) to 10K will be fine.)

Now that you are ready, one more note. The Key F5 is your best friend for restock because F5 is the refresh hotkey. Keep your hand positioned at F5. I usually have my middle finger ready at the F5 Key, the thumb on the space bar, the other hand on the mouse. You should be using your Num-Pad for this, but if you are comfortable with the top number keys, feel free to use those, but the number pad is better because it has an enter key on it. Turn Num-Lock on and be sure you have less than 50 Items in your inventory.

Now it's time to set your time to NST (or at least your minutes and seconds). Look at the screenshot below. Where it is circled in red is the time on the Neopets homepage. To get the time, keep refreshing as you open your computer's clock and attempt to set it the same as the refreshed. I count the seconds as it goes, so after at least 5 attempts, my min. and sec. are set to NST. You can keep your hour the same though.

NST YO!

All right, for beginners, I recommend the magic shop or the book shop. Your choice, but the magic sells for more NP unless you get your hands on a SUPER RARE book... for basics, all potions that are not healing and morphing (except rare species and colours) are good, novas, faeries, and misc. items such as Jar of Eyeballs are great too. Keep refreshing with F5 every minute that ticks by until it starts to restock.

Sometimes, it goes to this annoying screen:

Kauvara says...

Inexperienced, you might just stare and try to get things but never do. I click and press enter with my space bar. This takes me to the next screen... where I can put in my NP that I pay (fast as light, mind you) and press enter and hopefully, I get a screen that says it was added to my inventory. As for you.. let's go step by step... first you probably see this annoying empty screen. Finally, it starts to restock... Ooh... an air faerie... but the pic didn't load (you should be refreshing as soon as the screen loads). Familiarise yourself with the words and stuff because that will REALLY help. So we see the air faerie and quickly click on it. (GAHELO, PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE NEEDS TO BE A SCREENSHOT HERE) All right. Now here's the haggling screen... we enter a price... and...

Accepted!

We got the faerie! Yay! Now that you know how it works, you can try it for yourself. Don't expect to be this good at first, this is an art, and it takes practice to get this good. I have been on Neopets for over 1 year, and have been practising restocking for just that long, so DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT! Keeping your cool is very important. Now that you know how it works, we can go into detail... and have tips on what to do.

Tip 1: Research what items are good for profit

While this guide gives you a relatively good idea on what makes a good profit, times and things change, and supplies and demands change too. Researching what is the highest in price now is a very good idea, you should do some research and write it down on a sheet of paper that you can keep by your computer.

Tip 2: Ctrl+V

Pasting a price in and pressing enter is a lot easier and quicker than typing isn't it? This is a useful trick.

Tip 3: 1:00 AM NST

This is the least crowded hour, and your chances are at its highest, although many Singaporean are online at this time. I'm always on at this time, because I live in Asian... you can get a ton of items at this time.

Tip 4: Avoid rush hour and half price day at all costs

At this time and day (3rd of each month for HPD), things go at the speed of light!

Avoid rush hour and holiday breaks! Even with cable, it goes slow... as slow as 56K!

Tip 5: Fast connection

A fast connection is essential. If you don't have one, why don't you go to a friends or a relative's house that does? Or better yet, earn it yourself... go get yourself a job! Pay for it yourself and reap the rewards. J DSL and cable are OK, and owners of a T1 are in luck. Really in luck. But T1 costs about $1000 a month, so these are rarities.

Tip 6: Easy Numbers

Never type in the exact price for it. Even over it a little is OK. Just have an easy number such as 333 instead of 304. A little bit more, but worth it!

Tip 7: F5

This is your best friend!! F5 is the hotkey for refresh and refreshing is what restockers need! At a handy position... keep on refreshing with F5.

Tip 8: Keep your cool

If the main shops don't restock in hours... that's OK... don't be discouraged by that and don't be discouraged if you don't get anything. Eventually, your restocking skills will get better, and hopefully... they will not stay at the same screen for an hour (as in NO RESTOCK)

Tip 9: Learn the Market Value

As in... learn what is rare! Such as Draik and Krawk Potions... get one and you will make a BIG profit. Try to learn the market value, and when you do, you'll find that you'll make a lot more NP then just staying there stupidly and wondering to yourself: "Does this have a profit?" and it is sold out when you check.

Now... I hope you have learned something... so you don't need to beg for NP or be poor anymore, and if you have any comments or questions, please Neomail me.
