The Student Journals: Part Two

by ridergirl333

Untitled Document The Pizzaroo is a popular after-school hangout for Golden Jubjub students. It's a place where people can hang out, gossip, do homework, and of course, eat pizza.

My name is RubyRainbow333 the rainbow Uni. I met my friend Indigo Musician the blue Gelert at our usual table, right next to the counter. Sometimes, my siblings join us. Today was one of those days.

"Ruby, I heard you got in trouble today," EmeraldFlame555 the green Scorchio said curiously. "What did you do, jam a locker? Flunk a test? Did they blame you for putting Mortogs in Mr. Sterns's desk, because if so, I'm sorry."

"I'm not in trouble, Emerald," I groaned at my talkative little brother. "And no one has found out about the Mortogs yet. Wait a minute… are you admitting to putting the Mortogs…"

Realizing his mistake, Emerald smacked himself on the head with a folder. "Forget you heard that sis, okay? So why were you down there? My friend Comet Musician was outside, next to the door. He said Sterns threw a fit. He heard glass breaking and your voice."

Comet's sister Indigo piped in. "I came up with an idea. The Golden Jubjub needs a newspaper! When Ruby and I talked to Mr. Sterns about it, we… you know how intimidating he can be!"

"Yes. I've been to his office several times."

     "Well, Ruby and I were a bit… anxious and…"

"And he lost patience with your stuttering. Been there, done that. Lived to tell the tale."

     "Which is a miracle, considering…"

"Considering how many times I get into trouble? I know."

That's Emerald for you. A bit blunt sometimes.

"In any case, we talked to Mrs. Gertrude about it. She said she'd help us make this dream a reality."

Emerald whistled at me. "Poetic. Lofty goal, though. Are you sure you can reach it?"

Indigo bristled at these words. "We're not afraid to attempt it."

My sweet, sensitive, quiet sister SapphireCloud777 the blue Eyrie responded, "We're not questioning your courage, Indigo. We're just not sure that the other teachers will go for the idea. Plus, a newspaper takes a lot of time and effort, and I'm not sure the students will like it. Plus, who would want to work for the paper? Put that much energy into something no one is going to read? You'll have a heck of a time finding reporters."

"She already has a reporter," I said quietly. "Me."

My brother AmethystSkye111 the purple Peophin didn't like the idea either. He raised his eyebrows sceptically.

I was really upset now. "People will read it!" I said firmly, almost angrily. "I'll write a story so unbelievable, so truthful, so emotional, they'll have to read it! I'll make this paper the best thing that ever happened to this school! I promise this!"

"You're not exactly qualified to make that sort of promise, Ruby." My brother said.

"I can promise that I'll try." Then, I stormed out of the Pizzaroo in a huff.

A long, monotonous day of school passed. Then another. And I was no closer to fulfilling my vow. I searched high and low for a story. Then, something happened.

It was Friday afternoon. I was home from school, cutting apples for my afternoon snack. Then, Sapphire raced into the house, tears streaming from her soft blue eyes and down her feathered cheeks.

My owner, Ridergirl333 came over and stroked her Eyrie's back. "What's wrong Sapphire?" she asked.

Wordlessly, my sister handed Ridergirl a sheet of paper. It was her history project, a poster about the invention of the light bulb. In all honesty, I spotted a few misspellings and some incorrect information, but if I were a teacher I'd give it a B.

Sapphire's history teacher, Mrs. Jones the Blumaroo, gave it a C-.

Ridergirl couldn't believe her eyes. She scanned the poster, then read it thoroughly, then again and again. "I'm calling the school about this," she growled.

Mr. Sterns scheduled a meeting with Ridergirl on Monday afternoon. She came back looking none too pleased.

"'Sapphire's not being challenged enough.' That's what he says. A pack of lies, all of it. Sapphire's not dumb, but she's being challenged!"

"Bad meeting?" Emerald asked in that annoying I'm-the-big-brother way.

"This is the second NeoPet of mine to whom this has happened! It's an injustice!"

"Ridergirl, calm down." I sat my human in a chair and spoke to her rationally. "Now please tell me how lowering her grade will challenge her."

"I didn't think to ask," Ridergirl said. "But not only does he toy with my pets' honor, he toys with me too. He calls me an 'overly arrogant teenager' and a 'human with a cannon for a temper'."

"Cannon? More like an atomic bomb."

I glared at my brother. "Not funny," I growled.

But I wondered, what's going on here?
