Moonlit Destiny: Part One

by laurarach

MoonLight the pale yellow Uni trudged through the woods with a sack in her mouth. Though tears streamed down her long face determination welled up inside her. She had had enough.

For years she had been pushed and pulled by her mom and dad try out many sports. But her parents didn't see the sport itself, they just saw that Moonlight had to be the best and that was that. At an early age, just as Moonlight had learned to fly (though now and then she would sometimes crash into the occasional bush or tree) her father enrolled her in the Agility contest for younger Unis. In this contest various tunnels and rings were put on polls high into the air. The Unis had to weave their way trough the rings and tunnels in a certain order and amount of time. Although Moonlight had practised many a day with her father she lacked the confidence.

On the day of the contest her legs shook and wings trembled. She did horribly in the air and had gotten a bad score. Her father hardly looked at her for the rest of the day. The same had gone with soccer, track, and various flying races. The young Uni just didn't enjoy the things her parents told her to try. She knew in her heart that somewhere there was something she was good at.

Reality came back to Moonlight as she tripped over a root. Her sack went flying as she collapsed in a heap. Snorting furiously she got up, picked up her sack, and continued onward. As dawn approached, Moonlight lay down by a tree and was soon asleep.

Not far away from Moonlight a young boy trudged wearily through the woods looking for something to do. His name was Sheik. He was fed up with bullies taunting him because he didn't have any NeoPets. When asking his parents, they had given him a gentle but firm, "NO!" Sheik vowed that he would someday find the perfect pet and they would be good friends. But until that day came, Sheik had to put up with the bullies.

As he hiked onward he stumbled upon a young Usul chewing on an acorn. Sheik's eyes brightened as he crouched down and put his hand out. The Usul eyed Sheik curiously then leaped out, bit him on the hand, and zoomed up a tree. Sheik angrily tossed the acorn at the Usul's receding tail. He inspected his hand and saw that the Usul's bite hadn't broken the skin.

Climbing a different tree, Sheik was curious to see how far he had hiked. As his head poked out of the leaves, the sun poked over the horizon. To his left, Sheik could see his village and to his right Sheik could see a great river. He had a sudden urge to follow the river. Perhaps, he could find some neat creatures.

As he scrambled down the tree he remembered how strict his parents were. He needed to think of a way he could convince his parents to allow him to go exploring. He decided that he would go anyway, even if his parents said, 'no'.

Will Sheik's parents allow him to travel the river? Will he find a NeoPet that will be his friend? What about Moonlight? Will she find something she is skilled at? Find out next time in, Moonlit Destiny.
