Okay, so imagine this scenario: You've taken a break from NeoPets because it has become boring to you. After a while, say, a year or so, you decide to come back to NeoPets and begin playing once more. A shock comes to you as soon as you type in the URL at the top of the screen -- NeoPets has just gotten a huge facelift! The front page looks so amazing that you can't wait to begin playing again.

Your Mouse roves over to "Login" and you click on it. Same as usual, right? You enter your Username. 'Same old, same old, at least this part hasn't changed.' you think to yourself, but, lo and behold, when you click on "Submit", you come to the next Page, which asks for your p/w and your birth date. You think 'Oh, this is different,' but enter your p/w and birth date that you remember for your Account but -- OMG -- for some odd reason, your birth date is wrong.

Now, you're stumped. You're staring at the screen, aghast at why your birth date doesn't work. Then you try other things -- your best friend's birth date, your favorite dog's birth date, hey, you even try your favorite stuffed animals' made-up birth date. NOTHING seems to work! You are now frustrated at it; staring at the screen in anger. For whatever reason when you made the Account, you used some other date -- it may even have been a random date you came up with in your head -- but no matter how hard you try, you can't get back into the Account.

Most people just give up and make a new Account. Most people are so frustrated with it that they just say "Forget it" and never come back to Neo again. Some people complain about it on the Help Chat Boards and, when no one knows the answer, they become increasingly frustrated, and then begin to yell at people for absolutely no reason.

That's where I come in.

I used to have an Account like that. My Side Account, _inu_yasha_78, used to have some stupid, random birth date attached to it. I disappeared from NeoPets for two years because I had found another site that took up all of my internet time. When I came back, I found this new "birth date security" thing on the Login Page. I was fine with it, because my Main Account, tripp_raver, was my real birth date, but my Side was not. I was angry, but then I went "Okay... how do I fix this?"

I spent the better part of three months trying to guess my birth date on that Account and, since you can only guess three times a day, it was very nerve-wracking for me. I was browsing the Help Chat Board one day when I stumbled across the first Topic I had seen of this problem -- "I don't know what my birthday is!" I entered into the Topic and found my exact same problem staring me back in the face. The girl had problems with her Account because she had left to do something else over a period of time. I thought "Wow, there are people who are as moronic as I am," and promptly refreshed the Topic to see if anyone had any answers for us.

Someone on the Topic, who was a little older than my Main Account, mentioned the "Contact Us" Link at the bottom of the Page in one of her Posts and suggested that maybe there would be a way to get it back by talking to TNT. This Petpage explains the procedure that I went through to get my Account back.




These first few steps are always the hardest because -- hey -- how in all bells are you supposed to remember everything that was in your Account from two years ago?

The first thing you have to do is go on a giant manhunt for the "Contact Us" Page. It's not that hard to find really; located near the bottom of any NeoPets Page, even the Petpages (provided the Petpages aren't hiding the information). I've taken this step out by just giving you a link below.

Contact Us


It takes you to a cute little, plain white page with a couple of pictures on it and a bunch of words. Don't worry, though, you don't need to pay attention to any of the other words on there except the ones in the "Abuse Questions" section.

The link that you want is called "Account Access". Easy enough, right? Click on that and it'll take you to another Page with a whole lot more writing on it. This is an Automatic Submission Form for your Account Access. Even though this says stuff about fake logins and Scammers and such, you can still use it to regain access to your Account by having them reset your birth date (even though TNT doesn't want you to really know about this process).

Now, information, information... You've got to fill this part out pretty much on your own, but I will help you with the parts that seem to be a bit confusing.

Username of the account you cannot access: Well, this one's a no-brainer. Simply enter the username that you have lost access to.

E-mail Address: ((Make sure the address you enter is correct so that you receive our reply!)) TNT specifically states that if you use your Neopets.com eMail, TNT will NOT be able to Respond to you. Everything after this step is done straight through eMail, as TNT will NOT contact you through NeoPets at all. You MUST use an eMail address that is current and that is valid. You cannot tell them to "please NeoMail me," or they will NOT process your request.

Do you know the username of the person who scammed you? Don't enter anything in here, as this field is unneeded for this Report.

What happened/what is the problem: this is what I typed in to that field:

((I have forgotten my birth date on my Side Account, _inu_yasha_78, and I don't know how to gain it back. I have tried guessing, but that is taking a really long time. I have been away from NeoPets for two years and I don't remember a lot about what was in this Account. What I do know is that the email for that Account, inu_yasha765@hotmail.com, is now inactive and no longer works. I hope that you can do something for me and my Account as I really would like to regain access to it.))

Verifying Your Account: ((Please provide us with some information that only the person who created the account would know. Please fill out as much of the information as you can, and it must be accurate. If some of the questions do not apply to you or you do not know the answer, then please leave those blank. The more useful information we have about your account the better the chance we will be able to verify that it was yours.)) You just enter what you remember in those fields that they ask. Try and remember every detail that you possibly can as that will help you and TNT in making sure that the Account is yours. Make sure that you enter as much information as you possibly can.

Who are your Neofriends?: Well, THIS one should be easy. Enter in as many NeoFriends as you can possibly remember from that Account. Don't leave out any username, unless you can't remember the whole name; you have to make sure that you don't put in ANY nicknames in this field.

Past Trades/Auctions: You've got to give TNT a little bit of information about auctions and trades. If you remember the Trades and Actions that you have made, place them in this field, along with username Accounts that you Auctioned or Traded with, but, if you don't remember anything at all, then that's okay, just leave this section blank.

Birthdate: -giggles- Well, you're trying to gain this information back, so don't enter anything here.

Email Addresses: If you can remember the eMail that was attached to the Lost Account, then place it here. If you can remember any eMail addresses that were ever attached to your Account, place that information here too.

Neomails in your inbox: If you can remember anything like this, then put it here. NOTE: This field does NOT apply if you haven't had access to your Account in over three months as TNT deletes all NeoMails that are over three months old.

Stocks you currently own: Enter in all of the stocks you own on your Account, if you can, or at least enter some of them. If you can't remember any, leave this field blank.

Books your pets have read: Any and all books that you can remember reading to your Pet you must enter here. If you can't remember any, leave this field blank as well.

Items in your Inventory or Safety Deposit Box: I didn't remember what was in my SDB on my Side Account, much less if there was anything there at all, so, naturally, I left it blank.

Items equipped on any of your pets: Enter in any and all battle items you can remember attaching to any one of your Pets for use in the Battledome. If you can't remember anything, leave this field blank.

Pets you created (Not adopted. Give their exact names): A while ago, I used to have two Pets on my Lost Account, and Lyfling01, a Pet that I used to have, was a Green Acara that I had made myself, so I put her name in there.

If you've ever disowned any pets, what were their names?: This one's simple as well. If you have any Pets on your Account that you have ever tossed into the Pound, or had Adopted out to another good home, put that information here. If you can't remember your Pets, or have never disowned one, leave this field blank.

If you've ever been warned, what were the warnings for?: People sometimes don't like talking about their warnings, especially not with high-authority like TNT, but you've got to put all of your warnings and suspensions you may have gotten for your Lost Account, as every warning and suspension with any Account is always kept on-file. If you're a goody two shoes instead, leave this field blank.

If you've ever redeemed any Rare Item Codes, what did you get for them?: If you've ever gone out to buy a NeoPets Plushie with a Rare Item Code, and then redeemed it at the Grundo Warehouse, try and type in this field what item you received for the Code. NOTE: Make sure you type in ONLY what you received for an "RIC" on your Lost Account and on none of your others!

Any further information you think would help us verify your ownership of the account: In this field goes all of the "extra stuff" that's not included in the information that you provided above. In this field is where I noted what was in my Shop from that Account and also I typed in the fact that the eMail that was attached to that Account was invalid.

Hit Submit and then give TNT some time to respond. I cannot stress upon this part the most. Once you send in the Submission form you MUST wait until TNT gives you some kind of recognition back, be it an automated message or an eMail. If TNT's response to your Report happens to be an automated NeoMail, you must then fill out another form, but make sure that you place this sentence into the "Any further information" column: I dislike getting automated NeoMails, please contact me through email.

For me, it took a Staff member about one month to respond to my Report.

NOTE: I have gotten NeoMails and reports that the process takes way less time now -- Report has now been confirmed by a one *7nitedragons; it took him about four (4) days to regain access to a lost Account while he was using my Petpage. Gratz to you, Manuel! ^____^

When TNT got around to my Report, I got this response by eMail from one of the Team:

-Hello. This is response to a NeoPets Report by a user by the name of tripp_raver. I read your response and I am able to complete your Request. I would like you to give me some more information, though, about your Account. I need to know if you can give me a little bit more information about what is in your Shop or maybe in your Inventory for me to double-check with.-

I Responded back by telling him some information about my Shop, just giving off names of some of the things that I vaguely remembered being in my Shop the last time I was on NeoPets.

I got this Response back from him about three weeks later:

-I was able to gain access to your Account, and I have now reset your birth date back to what it was. Please go to your Account and verify that it works, then come back to me and Respond.-

I checked my Account and - lo and behold - it worked~! I was very happy that I thanked him right away.


The Guessing Game
There is a method that I like to call the "Guessing Game" out there, for those of you who have not been able to regain their account information the way that I have described above. It is simply called the Guessing Game because you do just that. Guess your birth date.

There are two reasons why you would use this method. One, either you've requested TNT's help the way I've described above and they haven't helped you, or two, TNT has gotten back to you and told you they can no longer access your information because your Lost Account has been inactive for too long (longer then a year).

If this is truly your case, then this method is for you. Your first step is probably the hardest one. First off, you have to find out what the "age" you've selected for your old account is. Either do that by looking on your own Neofriends for the number under the "AGE" column, or, of you don't have your Lost Account as one of your Neofriends, find someone who is friends with your Lost Account and then have them tell you what the "age" is listed in their Neofriends list. Sadly, you can't Neofriend the account yourself, as you cannot view what the age is going to be on your Lost Account until it's accepted (it appears as "???" if you try).

After this, you have a maximum of 366 possibilities to work with. Unfortunately, Neopets only lets you guess your birth date 5 times a day, but if you do it this way, you will eventually get your old account back.




What if I've tried this procedure all ready, but didn't get any response?
It depends. It shouldn't take them more than a week to get back to you, but most people receive some sort of response in a couple of days. If it takes longer than a week for them to respond to you, then you need to send the Report again and then be polite and wait for their answer.


I've tried this a whole bunch of times, but I always get the same automated response! How do I stop this?
If you are getting an automated response, make sure that under "Any further information you think would help us verify your ownership of the account" you need to type out something close to "I don't appreciate automated NeoMails for this problem, so please Contact me through eMail."


There are so many steps! This must take forever! I don't want to wait that long, what do I do?
Actually, the process apparently doesn't take as long as it used to; it took one user a mere four days to regain access to a Lost Account. (thanks to 7nitedragons for this information!)


I did everything that I could, but when TNT responded, they said that they couldn't retrieve my information because my Account's been "inactive for too long"! Why?
If your Account has been inactive for a year or longer, I'm afraid to say that you can NOT get your information back this way. You have to use another method, described as the Guessing Game.


I've seen that you put down that your account was over a year inactive before you went back to retrieve it, but now it's said that you can't do it! Why is that?
My only guess was that the 1 + year rule wasn't in effect when I requested for my account back, and therefore it didn't apply to me at the time. My guess is that it went into effect a few months after I had gotten mine back.


I've tried doing this before, but it didn't work! TNT said that I didn't have enough information for them to do anything, and I don't remember anyhting else. What do I do now?
if this response comes back to you, then all you need to do is use the Guessing Game method. It might be slow, but I know of a few people who have regained access to their accounts this way.
