Imperfect Dark: Part Five

Shocking revelation!

Is there another side to Jhudora that has been overlooked?

Illusen and Jhudora are still locked up together because of Angel's kidnap and ransom plan. And we all know how much they get along.

Sitting on opposite sides of the cell, there was tension in the air. Putting them in a room together was like putting nitrogen with glycerine. Bang! Could blow up at any moment.

Late one night Illusen tried a different plan of escape by trying to befriend Jhudora. Maybe, in this case, two heads were better than one.

"Listen, honey I think we should have a girl to girl talk!"

"Hmmph!" Jhudora slumped back into her eternal gloominess and ignored Illusen's unexpected perkiness.

"I don't know why you have a grudge against me. What I have done to upset you?" Illusen whimpers.

Jhudora leaned forward and glared lost desert daggers with her eyes. "Listen up! I don't want to talk about it! I'm in a seriously bad mood! Full stop! End of discussion!" and turned her body away from Illusen.

Suddenly, to Illusen's complete surprise, Jhudora pulls out her Wand of Dark Nova that she had hidden in her pocket, and starts shooting out a beam of deadly dark novas at her cell mate. Illusen pulls (even more surprisingly) her staff out of her long green boots, then aims it right at Jhudora, but misses when Jhudora rolls out of the away. Sparks fly across the cell like a shoot-em-up scene from an old western movie.

Angel woke up because of the strange noises coming from the basement. She ran down the stairs, worried someone was either breaking in or breaking out. She came to a halt in front of the cell door and looked at the seemingly innocent faeries, who were sitting against the wall with their hands behind their backs.

"What is going on here? Sounds like a Meridell war decided to break out in my basement!"

"Nothing!" the faeries smile like nothing happened. Angel looks a bit put out and a little suspicious, but is too tired to care. "Must be the wind! I'm going to bed. Night, night!" yawned Angel and she stumbled back up the stairs.

Illusen turned to Jhudora. "Don't think you can pull a wand on me and get away with it. I can out-battle you any day! And you must be having a bad hair day, too. No, make that life," Illusen said as she touched Jhudora's purple, lifeless, out-of-bed hair. "You should use rainwater shampoo like I do." She shook her own perfect, bouncy green locks. "Face it Jhudora. I'm prettier, stronger and smarter than you!"

Jhudora's face turned a darker shade of purple. "I don't need your advice, leave me alone! Rub it in that you got the TV job at the audition, not me!

Illusen sat back for a moment and remembered that she had been trying to make friends with Jhudora to help them escape. "You do realise we might be stuck in here a while so maybe we should try to get along. All my friends and fellow questers will be worrying about me and missing me."

"All you worry about is you! What about me? No-one thinks or worries about the little old Dark Faerie. Fyora this, Fyora that! It blows being her sister!" Jhudora grumbled.

     "What about friends?"

"What friends? No one wants to be friends with a supposed Dark Faerie."

"Huh?" That didn't make sense. "No offence - I thought you were meant to be evil, aren't you?" she stared blankly at Jhudora.

"Don't get me started. Talk about give a Lupe a bad name! No one has seen the good 'help the old lady across the road' side of me."

"Wait a minute! Did you say sisters?" gasped Illusen.

"Well, half sister, anyway. I don't know about you but I want to escape. I have had enough. I will dig out of this cell with my nails to escape if I have to and you can stay here forever."

"You mean "we". Don't be selfish. No wonder you don't have any friends."

All of a sudden, Jhudora put her face in her hands and started crying.

Illusen is surprised at seeing this unexpected side of Jhudora and starts to soften a little. "Oh don't cry hun, I can see this is going to be a long night..." and patted Jhudora carefully on the back.

The next day, at the Hidden Tower, Carina, Angel's bumbling partner in crime, is looking after Illusen and Jhudora so that Angel can go over her ransom speech which is going to be televised live to all of Neopia. Meanwhile, Angel is cramming a handful of free munchies off the studio catering table into her mouth while writing with a pen in her other hand.

"Carina, where are our two hostages?" She looked around for the faeries. "I told you to keep a eye on them. I need to make my speech up on the highest balcony of the Hidden Tower and need them next to me while I talk. No-one is going to believe me if I don't have visual proof!"

"Um... do you really want to know?," Carina spoke nervously.

"WHAT!! Don't tell me you lost them or something?!?!?" Angel dropped her bottle of Neocola all over her dress and the bottle fell to the floor and shattered into a million pieces.

"Yeah, backstage. Sorry, this place is so confusing. People were going berserk and bumping into me. They must have got lost when we were walking around together and we got separated somehow," Carina struggled.

"More like escaped! I'm stressed out as it is, now more than ever! Thanks for nothing, Carina! I demand you go and find them now!"

Carina ran off and tripped on a cable leading from one of the television cameras.

"Why me, of all people!" Angel hangs her head in embarrassment.

"Angel, you're on in 15 minutes to make your ransom speech on live television" the stage manager said as she fiddled with Angel's microphone on her leather jacket.

"Your item is going to be on after an ad break for 'Cheesy Neos, Neopia's favourite brand of crisps." A well groomed Usul attacked Angel's face with a makeup brush.

"Oh my goodness, I'm so nervous! Especially since its live television!" Angel fiddled with her palm cards.

"Actually, it's a delayed telecast, but you still only get one chance to muff it" sneered the stage manger. She was tall and overpowering. Her figure was like a battle duck, plump with a big pointy behind. That's probably how she got her job - by scaring people.

"Relax!" bellowed the stage manager, "This is easy compared to, say, getting into The Neopian Times. The editor is so picky and choosy. I tried to get in a couple of times but no! I suppose I'm destined to be a stage manager all my life instead of an author or a comic artist." Angel nodded in empathy.

"Right, I'd love to hear more about your problems but I have something important to do." Angel started running off to help Carina find the missing hostages when she suddenly decided it might be quicker to ask first and look later. She didn't want to confide in the this woman, but she was in a rush.

"Oh, before I forget, would you happened to have seen two Faeries around here? One with purple hair with an evil face; the other with green hair with a pair of green wings?"

"Oh those two! Yeah, I saw them arguing backstage about which way the exit was. They didn't find it and they made so much noise they got kicked out of the studio."

"No!! My plans are ruined!" Angel started to run off but the stage manager grabbed her shoulder. Angel suddenly got very nervous. I wonder whether Hrobi looks like a battle duck? she thought to herself.

"Wait, I just remembered. After that I saw both Faeries go into the makeup room. Both of them seemed to be insisting that the other needed a makeover."

"Thanks, I need to talk to them before I go on television" Angel thanked her and ran down the corridor to the makeup room and slid, puffing, through the door.

"Jhudora! There you are! I need to talk to you - this is urgent."

"Hang on, I'm busy!" she snorted, as she leaned back in the padded makeup chair.

"Well the thing is... umm..." Angel was getting stressed and tongue-tied.

"Spit it out girl, I haven't got all day!"

"You see, I want you to do me a favour... "
