Get Involved!

by kaitlin015

Bored? Don’t Say That! There’s plenty of fun for everyone, even if you’re a seasoned Neopian, as long as you get involved.

There are tons of ways for you to get involved at NeoPets. It’s easy to contribute to the site, meet new Neofriends, and just plain have fun! Guilds are the easiest way to become involved. There’s a guild out there for everyone! If you’re looking for a more creative outlet, then NeoPets has a lot to offer in that department, too. There are tons of ways to show off your talent, while earning some extra NP and trophies, too!

Guilds
One of the simplest yet most rewarding ways to get involved is to join a guild. If you’re a newbie, it might be best to join a larger guild (one with 20 members or more), and then start being active in the guild right away by posting messages on the messages boards, participating in the guild contests, and staying up-to-date on the latest guild happenings. This is a great way to meet new Neofriends who share a common interest with you. If you aren’t satisfied with the guild you joined, then don’t be afraid to leave that guild and find another one that does fit your needs. The only thing you shouldn’t do is join guilds just to get a sign-up prize, the leave once you get the goods. Doing this is taking advantage of people's good will, and will only make you enemies. If you’ve been around Neopia for a while and still haven’t found a guild that suits your fancy, you can always start your own guild. It is more fun if you find at least two other Neofriends whom you know and trust, and co-found a guild with them. This way, even if your guild doesn’t end up being very large, you and your Neofriend co-founders will still have a great time all by yourselves!

Storytelling Contest
This contest challenges you to come up with the most creative story you can think of. Each week, a member of the NeoPets staff begins a NeoPets-themed story, and Neopians like you are called upon to help finish writing the story! Just write your story in the text box provided at the Storytelling page. You can make as many entries as you like, and if your part is chosen, it will be published on the site and you’ll receive 2,000 NP, a rare item, and a trophy for everyone to admire. Two winners a day, five days a week.

Poetry Contest
If rhymes are more your style, then you can submit your NeoPets-themed poems to the Poetry Contest at poems@neopets.com! If your poem is chosen, then it will be published on the site and you will receive 1,000 NP, a rare item, and a shiny new trophy for your user lookup page. New winners are chosen every week or so.

Neopian Times
You say that you’re no go at stories or poems? Then try your hand a journalism or comic strip writing! You can submit your NeoPets-themed short stories, articles, comics, or continued series to The Neopian Times newspaper by sending your submissions to neopiantimes@neopets.com. A new issue comes out every week, and if your work is selected to appear in the paper, you will get a cool trophy for all your Neofriends to see. Remember to be original and that if you are submitting a mini-series, you must include the all your parts in your submission in order to get it published!

Pet Spotlight
If you want all of Neopia to see what a special pet you have, then you can try for the Pet Spotlight. All you have to do is write a few paragraphs about your pet(s) and submit is to spotlight@neopets.com. You can also include a picture that you drew of your pet by scanning it and sending it in with your entry. If your pet is chosen, it will be announced in the New Features section of the site and you’ll get a nice trophy for your pet’s lookup page.

Site Spotlight
You can also let everyone know how great your pet is by redesigning your NeoPet’s Petpage and submitting it to the Site Spotlight competition at fansites@neopets.com. Your website doesn’t have to be exclusively about your NeoPet, though! You can include HTML tips, NP-earning tips, and lots of other stuff, as long as the site keeps a NeoPets theme. If you don’t know too much about designing websites, then you can find good help at NeoPet’s own HTML help guide. If you just need a little inspiration, you can always go and look at previous winners’ sites. But when you go to create your own site, be as creative and original as you can! This will help you to win the contest. Two winners are chosen each week, and if you win you’ll get a trophy.

Beauty Contest
If you’re good with computer paint programs, you can try your hand at the NeoPets Beauty Contest! All you have to do is take the ordinary picture of your NeoPet that you see every day, and use a paint program to transform your pet into a beauty. Then write a brief speech about your pet to submit with your picture. You can create fancy backgrounds, change you’re pet’s colours, or even draw clothing on them! Be as creative as you can, and try to submit your picture early on so that it has time to rack up more votes. If you’re pet gets a lot of votes, you can win up to 6,000 NP per week, plus a trophy on you’re pet’s lookup page! Check to see when the next competition starts, or when the current competition ends by following the link at Pet Central. Be sure to read the FAQ at the Beauty Contest page before entering to increase your chance of winning!

Art Gallery
If you’re an artist but the Beauty Contest just doesn’t sound like your style, then you can send your artwork to pics@neopets.com to submit it to the art gallery. You can use either your computer’s paint program, hand-draw your pictures, or make your work a combination of both. You can draw your NeoPet, you and your NeoPet together, your NeoPet’s PetPet, the Faeries, or any other NeoPets-related subject. As always, be creative and remember to make your pictures colourful! Sending in pictures that are too light or uncoloured will decrease your chance of being chosen. If you are chosen, your artwork will be published in the art gallery and you’ll get 1,000 NP plus a rare item and a trophy.

Caption Contest
This contest is similar to the Storytelling Contest. About every week, a new picture is put up on the Caption Contest. Your goal is to come up with the wittiest, funniest caption you can think of for the picture, then type it in the box provided below the picture. Press the button below the text box to submit your caption, and then wait to see if you win! If you are a winner (there is more than one winner for every caption) you will win 1,000 NP, a rare item, a handsome new trophy.

These are just some of the most popular ways to get involved at NeoPets. Just remember that whenever you submit anything to NeoPets, make sure you send it to the correct e-mail address and that you’ve included your username in your submission. Otherwise, no one will know who to give credit to and your hard work can’t be published! And if you’re under 18, check with your parents first before submitting anything. It is also important to remember that millions of people play NeoPets each day. To increase your chances of winning the contests mentioned here you should try your best to be creative and original. If you don’t win the contest on your first try, don’t get discouraged! Keep improving your stories, pictures, poems, articles, and everything else and keep trying! So what are you waiting for? Go out there and get involved!
