Dragonsky: Part Seven

With a deafening thud, the two blocks of ice came crashing down onto the pavement below. The dragons stared at the resolute figures holding Blue and Red Frost Cannons. They were Tandard and Azaarx, two Scorchios who stood triumphantly.

The ice was cold around them, and the sisters could feel themselves slipping out of consciousness. They could see the guards holding similar freezing weapons round up the escaped aerial pets. They could see a Kougra holding a rainbow frost cannon and firing it at an escaping Buzz. The ice formed around the Buzz and encased him in a block of multi-coloured ice.

SilverEmerald could feel a stabbing pain in her head and finally gave up all hopes of resisting, and let the ice take her into a void of darkness...

Lappiny fought the best he could against Charl's powerful arms as he tried to escape from the Tuskaninny's grasp.

"Coward," the cloud Shoyru spat, "only bothering to help those treacherous Scorchios because they bribe you. Pathetic."

Charl avoided eye contact with his hostage as he carried him over to a bush. He shoved the Shoyru in and tied him up, making sure to gag him. "Like to see you escape from that," he murmured, his round eyes narrowing maliciously.

“Be sure to see that I will,” Lappiny replied coolly, hiding his fear, as Charl tugged harder on the rope.

The Tuskaninny scowled and double checked that the cage doors were locked before heading outside the building. He shot a definite smirk at the Shoyru before closing the door behind him and locking it securely. Lappiny was stuck in darkness, as it was night and the lights had been turned off.

Lappiny struggled through the rope, gnawing on it with his blunt teeth. After a while, Lappiny saw it was no good. He folded his wings toward him, gathering strength as he did so. His arms squeezed toward his body and breathed deeply. The Shoyru closed his eyes, thinking of events that had occurred. He rushed the anger and vengeance away, for although these things made the user more powerful, it was very difficult to control.

He thought of SiverEmerald and JadePaw, how they could need him this very minute. Lappiny then changed his vision to a picture of his sister, who had been friendly toward him since they had met, which had been for most of their lives. Lapinae, his fashionable but rather kind sister, and he then concentrated on Lappinny, the hyperactive Pteri zooming around their home, always cheery. Afterwards he thought of Lapinii, the newest addition to their family. She was mostly quiet and kept to herself in their playroom, sleeping with plushies and toys. Lapin, his owner, fluttered into his thoughtful mind, the low self-esteemed owner who comforted them even through all her hardships and troubled.

Then Lappiny thought about Charl and if he could change his mind about things. Drawing in a breath, the Shoyru had one last thought. If he could make through this, he could possibly save the whole of Neopia. Lappiny opened his eyes and thrust all his power, energy and thoughts, tearing the rope that bound him.

There was a slight rattle before the cage dropped and broke, allowing Lappiny an escape. He used up this chance, scrambling out of the cage and across the room. He banged at the door desperately, his gasp constricted and furious, “Let – me – out –”

The door had no keyhole, nor was there a panel or switch around to open it. He looked around and there he say it – another latch, just like the entrance to the laboratory.

Lappiny unhinged the latch and clambered outside, feeling the breeze around him. The wind gathered briskly, as the Shoyru spotted two Scorchios, Charl standing by them, posed proudly in front of two Neopets encaged in ice. It wasn't just SilverEmerald and JadePaw encaged in ice. Every aerial Neopet who had been freed from their cage was frozen.

"Ah, one more victim," Tandard said slyly as he pointed his Frost Cannon at the Shoyru. "You and your friends may have destroyed our precious little ticket to ruling Neopia, but we can build another."

He fired the cannon, emitting a torrent or frost at the Shoyru. With one powerful exhale; a wave of flames melted the ice. With one fluid motion, the cloud Shoyru pulled out his prized Shoyru Sabre. He charged at the Scorchios, but they fired their frost cannons. Lappiny was stuck. One chunk of red ice had frozen his left leg to the ground, while his other leg was stuck by a knoll of blue ice.

"Uh-oh," Lappiny whimpered as he struggled to break free, his efforts not helping his situation.

Azaarx walked slowly towards the trapped Shoyru. "Prepare to meet you d--"

Suddenly, the treacherous Scorchio was knocked clear off his feat. Charl stood there, wielding a Fire Sword. He swung it in Tandard's direction, easily draining the Scorchio's hit points. The Tuskaninny then rubbed the flaming scimitar against the ice that bound Lappiny to the ground. Within seconds the ice melted, rendering the Shoyru free.

     "Y-you saved me!" Lappiny exclaimed.

"You were right. It was a dastardly thing to do, to accept a bribe and turn against my friends like that. I'm sorry." Charl's round eyes begged forgiveness.

"Come on, let's just free these pets," Lappiny said, as his face broke into a smile.

Charl nodded, and that was precisely what they did. They stuffed Tandard and Azaarx in two separate cages before doing so, just in case they did anything. One by one, Charl and Lappiny worked together to unfreeze all of the pets encased in ice.

“You can’t stop us,” a faint voice said, coming from Tandard, after they freed more than half of the pets.

The Pyrogust came from behind, fire spitting out of its wings. The broad wings flapped harshly into the air, the edges lined with a fiery substance. JadePaw, who had just been released, gulped at the sight. SilverEmerald froze in her position, as Lappiny drew his Shoyru Sabre nervously. The only Neopet who didn’t seem nervous in the entire field was Charl.

“You’re wrong,” he said confidently. “We CAN stop you, and we’ll prove it too.”

The Tuskaninny charged toward the robot, which had landed itself onto the ground. Charl’s flaming scimitar pierced through him, as Lappiny questioned with a, “What are you –” Sparks came out of the Pyrogust and eventually showed signs of malfunctioning.

“That was easy,” Charl said. “Azaarx and Tandard never finished it, therefore it was not up to its full power.”

     “Oh,” Lappiny said rather bluntly.

JadePaw and SilverEmerald blinked for a moment at his quick triumphant battle. A few minutes later, Charl and Lappiny went back to the job of freeing all the pets.

“Where are you going to go?” asked JadePaw warily, walking on the grass.

They had just released every frozen Neopet and watched them storm out of the zoo as the Chia Police arrived and arrested Azaarx and Tandard for attempted world domination. The quartet, consisted of JadePaw, SilverEmerald, Lappiny, and Charl, were walking back to their homes.

After being asked the question, Charl shrugged. “I should get myself a NeoHome and maybe I’ll think things over and save Neopia from world domination again.”

     JadePaw, SilverEmerald, and Lappiny laughed.

“I’m sure you’ll do a great job, too,” added SilverEmerald. “Oh, here we are. The sight of the burnt marshmallows.”

The four stopped at a small pile of ashes, looking around them. Two small tents stood, unharmed, by the former fire. Lappiny picked up a stick nearby and examined it.

“This was my marshmallow stick,” Lappiny said. He added, “It looks as though a PetPet ate my perfectly roasted marshmallow.”

As Charl, Lappiny, JadePaw, and SilverEmerald worked together to tidy up their mess and pack up their possessions, JadePaw inquired, “We’ll see you again, right, Charl?”

“Only if you want me to,” the Tuskaninny said, with a wink. They made their way along the edge of a river, through the dense leaves, bushes, and trees, arriving at the outskirts of town. “I’ll be leaving you here, then. See you sometime in the near future!”

They waved after him as the Tuskaninny walked away in another direction. They were pained to say goodbye to Charl, not knowing when they would meet again. JadePaw and SilverEmerald turned toward the Haunted Woods.

“We’ll be going through there,” SilverEmerald explained.

After a curt wave of farewell, the two vanished into the trees as Lappiny made his way home, a place he would remember to cherish forever.
