Proteges: Part Four

by bludragn3

"Ugh..." a green Shoyru said. "What happened?" the Shoyru rubbed his head with his paw. He then opened his eyes to see his paw. "Uh... huh?"

     The Shoyru had Bluey's voice.

A tall dragon next to the Shoyru sat up and talked with a voice that had a quietness and gentleness about it. The dragon shook his head, and said, "Ow... what happened to my head?"

     The dragon had Dragoon's voice.

     "Um... Dragoon?" the Shoyru asked.

     "Er... Bluey?" the dragon asked.

     "I'M YOU!!!" they screamed.

"Oh no... what other tricks does this castle have in store for us?" Bluey wondered.

Dragoon started to cry. It looked funny because it was Bluey's body doing the crying. "I wish we were at home!"

Bluey looked down at his new Shoyru body. "Ugh... this is really going to take some getting used to..."

"Well... I guess we should leave at get this Orb back to Jhudora. We can't really do anything about the body switch..." Dragoon mused.

Bluey agreed, and the two set off again.

The two came to a large door. Bluey investigated the door and after making sure it wasn't trapped, he pushed the door open. Dragoon and Bluey walked inside.

"What is this, a closet?" Bluey asked.

Suddenly, the floor of the "closet" started to slide away. Bluey and Dragoon were startled by this, and tried to escape but the door had closed behind them. There wasn't anything the two could do but wait for the hole to open up so they could drop.

***

Bluey awoke in a soft bed. He rubbed his Shoyru eyes. "W-Where am I?"

"Do not fear, little Shoyru, I am here."

     "Huh? Who's that?"

A blue Fairy wearing a white lab coat appeared into Bluey's vision. "I'm the Tech Fairy. I live here in the Fairy Castle, experimenting with Neopian science."

"Whoa, really? I've never heard of you," Bluey said.

The Tech Faerie chuckled. "Not many people have. Is this your owner in this bed here?" The Fairy motioned toward the sleeping dragon in the bed opposite Bluey.

"Oh, yeah. That's actually my Neopet."

The Tech Faerie laughed. "Oh, I think you're a little confused, little Shoyru."

"No, it's very true. See, Dragoon -- the dragon there -- and I found this Draik. He was really mad, and he fed us these potions that changed us into each other."

"Really?" The Tech Faerie was surprised. "I've never encountered something like that in my research. Perhaps I have a solution to your dilemma. Please, wake your... pet... and come with me." The Faerie departed.

Bluey hopped off the bed and went over and woke up Dragoon. "Huh...? Wh... what's going on?"

"Dragoon, you gotta come with me. This Tech Faerie is going to help us out."

Dragoon got off the bed and noticed that Bluey's leather boots were lying near the bed. He slipped them on and followed Bluey into a chamber.

***

The Tech Faerie was charging up a large machine. The machine consisted of two chambers, one infused with a green light and one with a blue light. "Here, the machine is ready. I built this a long time ago, back when Dr. Sloth first came to Neopia. It was designed to give Neopets who had become mutants a new body. Sadly... I never fully completed the project."

"Wait, what's this about not completing the project?" Bluey asked.

"Well... there were some bugs I never worked out. (Bluey and Dragoon got a look of concern on their faces) But you can help me test it! If I can successfully transfer your minds into each other's bodies, then I can finally bring my invention to Neopia!"

At long last, Bluey and Dragoon nodded their heads. "All right, we accept." Dragoon said.

The two mismatched mates took their place in the chambers. The Tech Faerie gave them a thumbs-up and pressed a button on the control console. The chamber doors slammed shut. There was the sound of the machine drawing energy from the bright blue crystal in the power core. Electrical crackling occurred around the wires and the chambers' lights flashed with brilliance. Then... it stopped.

The machine powered down. The crystal went back to its normal luminosity. The chamber doors opened with a cloud of science dust.

Bluey looked down at his claws. "Hey... it worked!" His mind was now properly in his own dragon body.

Dragoon examined his body, even his tail. "I'm a Shoyru again!"

The Tech Faerie exclaimed, "The operation was a success! I cannot thank you enough for testing my invention. I cannot wait to go to Neopia Central and tell the scientists there!"

"And now we can finally get to Jhudora with her stupid Orb..." Bluey stated.

"Jhudora? Why would you be looking for her?" the Tech Faerie asked.

"Oh, she sent us on a quest for this Fairy's Orb here," Dragoon pulled out the Fairy's Orb. "She turned my siblings into plushies."

"Well, I'm not sure what this Orb is, but I can tell you that Jhudora's in the dungeon. There's a passageway just through that door there that should take you to the dungeon."

     "Oh, really? Thanks!" Bluey said.

"Yes. Well, I must be going now. The NeoTrack is leaving for Neopia Central soon. And I want to be there to meet my colleagues." The Tech Faerie walked out.

The two adventurers took the aforementioned passageway to the dungeon...

***

Bluey and Dragoon ran down the dungeon stairs. "Jhudora!" Dragoon said.

"Ah, my little friends. And I see you have the Faerie's Orb I asked for. I cannot thank you enough," Jhudora replied. Dragoon put the Faerie's Orb into her hand. "Thank you, young Shoyru, and you too, my dear dragon."

"So will you be able to turn our family members back into themselves?" Bluey asked.

"Yes, I certainly will." Jhudora channeled all her power into her Orb. Her body glowed white for a few seconds and then faded. "There, it is done. Your pets are plushies no more."

Bluey and Dragoon gave each other a high-five.

"With my duty done, I must depart," Jhudora said, the melancholy over her lifting.

"Huh? But I thought you were imprisoned here," Dragoon said.

Jhudora chuckled. "Oh ho, my little friend, by giving me the Faerie's Orb you have given me back all my powers. This will enable me to escape. Although you might not want to hear it, I think Fyora will not be very happy with you two."

Bluey and Dragoon suddenly became very frightened, and the expressions on their faces showed it.

"Farewell!" Jhudora's body glowed bright white, and then disappeared.

Dragoon gulped. "F-Fyora's not gonna be h-happy..."

Bluey became very uncomfortable. "I hope she doesn't turn us into piles of dung like she does in all those stories..."

"Here they are! Down in the dungeon!" a voice sounded.

Bluey and Dragoon braced themselves for their fate. "Uh oh..." they both said.

Two Light Faeries with golden pikes ran down the stairs, with Fyora close behind. "These are the ones who stole the Fairy's Orb, your majesty," one of the Light Faeries said.

"So! Bluey and Dragoon are your names, aren't they?" Fyora asked.

"Your majesty, we can explain..." Bluey started.

"Silence! Not in my entire reign have I seen such insolence. I will see to it that you two are extremely punished!" Fyora proclaimed.

"But we had to do it! My siblings were..." Dragoon tried to explain.

"I don't care if Jhudora turned your siblings into plushies!" Fyora read Dragoon's mind. "I could have cured anything Jhudora could have done!"

"Oh, right..." Bluey and Dragoon looked down at their feet.

"Argh!!" Electricity crackled from Fyora's hands. "Here is your punishment!" Fyora pointed her hands at Bluey and Dragoon. Bolts of pink lightning flew at the duo, engulfing their bodies in white light. When the light subsided, a very obvious change was seen.

     "I... I'm a Faerie Shoyru!" Dragoon exclaimed.

"My scales... they've turned pink!" Bluey (now Pinky) shouted.

"Um... not to sound insolent or anything, but... this isn't much of a punishment," Dragoon stated.

"That's because I'm not FINISHED!!" Fyora screeched. She threw her hands toward Bluey and Dragoon again, which caused the two to recoil in horror. Lightning appeared once again, but this time it was green. Bluey and Dragoon felt something strange about their newly-transformed bodies. The world around them was growing larger.

"No... no, I can't believe this is happening!" Dragoon said, his voice quickly getting higher.

When Fyora finished with the light show, Bluey and Dragoon were much, much smaller than they were before. They were about the size of baby Miamice. Fyora stated, "This is what we fairies call the Balthazar treatment. Telia, Furalia, jar them, please."

The two Light Faeries put down their pikes and Telia pulled out a jar. Furalia scooped up the two newly-conscripted fairies and dropped them into the jar.

"And lo, the punishment is complete."

Bluey's NeoHome...

Darkmoon and Spirit were laughing uncontrollably. "I... I can't believe my eyes!" Spirit said in between giggles.

"Guys? You want to tell us how exactly this happened?" Sykes asked, puzzled at the miniaturized and Faerie-ized Bluey and Dragoon inside the jar.

"Believe me, it's a long story..." Bluey said. He couldn't really fathom the ten of his pets looking at him like he was some exhibit in a side-show.

"Oh... this is the worst punishment ever!" Dragoon whined.

     "And yet, strangely politically correct..."
