Pricsesa watched nervously as the Usul slowly turned the
nozzle and then leave the room. This was it! This was her time to act!
Pricsesa looked for the button for the
Lab Ray. She searched the labels to find it was the big green one in the very
center.
The Uni raised her hoof, then brought
it swiftly down. The ray fired.
******
Sloth was walking towards the Lab Ray room to see how construction of his
beautiful machine was going. He figured it should be working soon enough.
Just then he spotted the head-mechanic
who should have been working on the Ray.
The Usul seemed to spot him to, for he
came over to Sloth with haste.
"I turned the nozzle just how you ordered!"
the Usul chimed.
"What? I never ordered you to do such
a thing!" Sloth barked.
"Uh, yeah you did. You were near the entrance.
Oh, and I see your cold went away! Your nose looks almost back to normal now!"
the Usul said quite cheerfully. I mean, why shouldn't he be cheerful? He had
done exactly as he was told.
*BLAST*
There was a flash of light that seemed
to come from the chaimber all of the pets were in.
Sloth ran to the room, closely followed
by the Usul. He peeked his head through the door and gasped. All of his mutants
in there, all of the regular Lab Rayers that he had transformed into his servants,
were back to normal, and they did not look happy. Not happy at all.
"Wow, Dr. Sloth, that wasn't such a wise
decision to turn the nozzle on the Lab Ray," the Usul remarked.
Sloth looked like he wanted to kill. He
turned to the Usul; his face was ten times scarier than it had ever been before.
"First of all, I never had a cold, and
my nose has ALWAYS been this size. Second of all, I haven't been anywhere near
the entrance for hours! Third of all, I NEVER TOLD YOU TO TURN THE NOZZLE!"
Sloth roared. Flecks of yellowish saliva were scattered over the room, and the
poor Usul. "NOW GET OUT OF MY SIGHT BEFORE I DO SOMETHING THAT I MOST LIKELY
WON'T REGRET!!!"
The poor Usul was shaking like mad, but
he still managed to speed off at an alarming pace.
Sloth then started off towards the control
room. Someone else had to have hit that button besides Tanul, because Tanul
never did anything without Sloth's approval. So who was it?
******
Pricsesa looked on the monitors and was happy to see that all the pets had
returned to normal. Then she searched for the right button to open the doors.
This was not as easy as it looked though,
for there were thousands of buttons. The Lab Ray had been easy since it was
obviously the most important, but this would definitely be harder.
She started to look, but then something
caught her eye. On a security camera she saw Sloth walking towards the room
she was in, and fast.
Pricsesa started scanning the labels on
the buttons.
Release droids... Turn on sprinklers...
Launch into space... Release Neoschools... Flush toilets... They went on
and on.
Pricsesa looked up and saw that Sloth
was only two halls away. She had to find the right button!
Self-Destruct... Activate Robo-Adam...
Reveal the existence of Jelly World... Open doors to Lab Ray room... Make a
Faerie Dragoyle...
"Wait! That's it!" Pricsesa cried with
glee as she went back a button. It was a very small red button that she probably
would have missed if she hadn't been reading the signs so carefully. She pressed
it then saw the doors in the Lab Ray room open on the monitors. The pets poured
out of the room, full of happiness.
The Uni couldn't believe it -- she had
done it!
"Take that Sloth!" Pricsesa cried happily
as she started to do a little cheer.
"I have taken it, but not with pleasure.
You'll pay very dearly for this you Uni..." a cold, very angry voice hissed.
Pricsesa slowly turned around, seeing
Dr. Sloth standing behind her.
"I should have known you did this. You've
caused quite a bit of trouble. Oh course, you won't be causing much trouble
for long... You see-"
"Those bars who seemed to do nothing when
I escaped actually transmitted stuff into my blood that would freeze me in one
hour. Yeah, I already know. You really should put a security camera down
that corridor," Pricsesa muttered in an almost bored way.
Sloth looked stunned, but said nothing.
"H-how- how- Oh, nevermind, I'm not even
going to ask. All I know is that your time is almost up!" Sloth cackled. His
eyes glittered, and his green lips were stretched into a scary smile.
Pricsesa was about to protest, but she
couldn't move her mouth. Her lips were frozen together! She reared on her hind
legs to make sure that she could still move them, but before she could bring
her front legs down, they froze too. The rest of her body was gradually freezing,
and finally only her eyes remained open.
At first she felt scared for herself,
but then she felt sorrow, but not for herself, for Trella who she knew would
be heartbroken.
And that's how her eyes froze, with a
look of sorrow.
Sloth looked happily at the frozen Uni.
Though he could never salvage the project again, the thought of getting rid
of the Uni comforted him.
"Now for the final touch," Sloth cackled.
"I'll make sure there is no way you will ever come back to haunt me!" He then
reached over and broke off a lever. He raised it high above his head and *THWAK!*
But it was not Pricsesa who was smashed
into a million pieces. In all actuality, nothing was broken at all, except maybe
Sloth's skull.
And there was Trella and Dugnorf, Trella
with a wrench in her hand. One of Sloth's engineers had left in on the floor
in the Lab Ray room, so she had picked it up just in case.
"Oh my Pricsesa!" Trella said with tears
in her eyes as she rushed over to her poor, frozen Uni. "Oh, what did he do
to you? My poor Pricsesa! Can you hear me? Are you still alive?"
Silence.
"Be happy, she would have been a lot worse
if this sludge bag had finished with her," Dugnorf choked as he lifted the lever
out of Sloth's hand. He looked at Pricsesa's sad look on her face and felt sick.
He still felt it was his fault.
"Urgh..." Sloth muttered as his vision
started to clear. "Who hit me?"
Trella's eyes lit up with fury and she
turned around to stare at the evil doctor.
"I HIT YOU!" she roared angrily. "AND
I WOULD HAVE HIT YOU HARDER TO IF I KNEW WHAT YOU DID TO MY PRICSESA! SHE TOLD
ME WHAT WOULD HAPPEN AND A BIT HOW IT HAPPENED, BUT I DON'T COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND!
SO YOU BETTER TELL ME WHAT YOU DID TO HER RIGHT NOW, AND I DON'T WANT YOU SKIPPING
ANY DETAILS! SO WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER?!?"
Sloth looked quite taken aback. No one
yelled at him, he always did the yelling. And yet, a teenage girl was screaming
at him and seemed quite scary.
"I- I don't have to tell you that," Dr.
Sloth finally stuttered when he came to his senses.
"ARE YOU SURE?" Trella hollered as she
lifted her wrench in the air threateningly.
"I have a feeling that she'll actually
do it," Dugnorf mused, looking forward to Sloth getting hit again.
Trella started to bring the wrench down
again, but then Dr. Sloth yelled, "Fine, I'll tell you! I'll tell you!"
Trella stopped her wrench and put it in
her pocket in a disappointed manner. She had been looking forward to cracking
his skull in two.
"Those beams of light transferred little
particles of very, very advanced technology into her bloodstream that would
freeze her exactly as she was when they first entered her body. As long as the
make-up of the body hasn't changed in any major ways, There is no way to undo
it," Sloth spat, angry that he had to confess his technology to such a pathetic
Sloth-wannabe pet and an annoying owner.
Trella stared at her Pricsesa. Her poor
Uni had such sad eyes, and she felt so bad.
"Oh Pricsesa!" she cried as she flung
her arms around the Uni. "You did so much... You were so unselfish... You gave
up everything..." Tears of sorrow streamed down her cheeks. Her Neopet was gone,
and there was no way to bring her back.
Suddenly, the frozen Uni started getting
very warm.
Trella leaped back to see that the frozen
Pricsesa was starting to shine. Suddenly, the ice started to melt.
It melted, and melted, and finally it
was all gone. And standing there, before Trella's eyes was her pretty white
Uni, laying exhausted on the floor.
"Trella?" Pricsesa inquired quietly.
"Yes Pricsesa?" Trella replied, her eyes
full of tears of joy at seeing her pet alive again.
"Are all of the pets out safe?" the Uni
muttered, as if saying everything was a real struggle.
"Y-yes, thanks to you," Dugnorf said with
a happy smile.
"Good," Pricsesa said, and then she fell
asleep.
"WHAT? HOW CAN THIS BE?!?" Sloth screamed.
"This makes no sense!"
"As much as I hate to admit it Dugnorf,
Sloth's right," Trella said as she placed her Uni's head in her arms. "How did
this happen?"
Dugnorf smiled with a look of superiority,
"Well, even though Sloth's plan was rather bright, he himself admitted that
he had a flaw-"
"Flaw? There was no flaw!" Sloth barked
as he gave Pricsesa a dirty look. "And if there was I wouldn't have admitted
it!"
"Ah, yes there was. Like you said, the
things would freeze her exactly as she was when the things entered her body
and it would work unless her body went through any major changes. And Pricsesa
did go through a major change. Instead of being a spoiled, self-centered, egotistic
brat, she became a caring, kind, and loving towards others. Her heart changed,
and apparently that was enough to undo your little freezer thingies!" Dugnorf
exclaimed triumphantly.
Sloth gave him a dirty look, but said
nothing. What could he? As much as he hated to admit it, the Moehog was right,
or at least he thought he was.
"C'mon, let's get out of here!" Trella
said as she heaved her Uni up on her shoulders. "I've seen enough of this place
to last me a lifetime!"
"Agreed," Dugnorf said with a smile. "But
what should we do with the slime ball? Maybe we could tie him up and bring him
to the Defenders."
Trella stared at Sloth, who was still
indignantly sitting on the ground. He was pulling the weird things that stuck
out on his head and seemed very put out that he had been thwarted once again.
"Leave him," Trella said finally.
"WHAT?"
"I said leave him. If we go to the Defenders
with him, we'll get all sorts of publicity, and Pricsesa really needs some time
to recuperate from all of this. He can stay here, and he can keep this thing
running for all I care. If anyone is stupid enough to go here, that's their
problem. As for me, I'm ready to leave."
Then, without another word, Trella marched
off with Pricsesa on her back.
Dugnorf, not wanting to be left behind,
followed her. He personally could not believe Trella's decision, but he couldn't
do anything about it.
*******
Days later, Pricsesa was getting her strength back. Trella was proud to see
that her little White Uni was definitely changing in personality. As soon as
she could walk, she walked over and donated all the clothes that she never wore
to the Money Tree.
Dugnorf was becoming quite a close friend
of the family. He came over to there house often, along with a timid Lassalu.
The change in her friend's personality had been a real shocker at first, but
then she started to change too.
"If you can't beat them, join them!" she
said with a smirk when Dugnorf pointed it out to her.
Then, two weeks later they heard a knock
on the door.
When Pricsesa went to get it, she was
startled to see the white Lupe from the Lab Ray.
"Hi, I'm Terke. May I come in? I'm not
sure if you remember me but" he said with a timid smile.
"Don't worry! I remember you! You're the
Lupe from the Lab Ray!" Pricsesa concluded.
"Great! I wasn't sure you'd recognize
me! So, may I come in?"
"Sure! By the way, I'm Pricsesa," Pricsesa
said speedily shook her head and lead the Lupe in.
"Um, who is this?" Trella asked as she
glanced at the surprise visitor.
"This is one of my, uh, friends from the
Lab Ray. His name's Terke. He was the Lupe that told me how to change all of
the mutants back," Pricsesa said as she took a seat on the Green Sofa next to
Dugnorf, who hadn't even raised his eyes from his book, Knowing Moehogs.
"Oh, so this is the one. We owe you for
that," Trella said with a grin.
"Not as much as I, or the other pets who
were involved, owe you. We would have been his slaves forever. Most pets have
stopped going to the Lab Ray after that incident," the Lupe muttered.
"What do you mean 'most?" Dugnorf said
as his eyes very slightly peered over the edge of his book. He had gotten a
new paint color, Shadow, the day after the Lab Ray incident since he didn't
want to look at all like Dr. Sloth. "Who would be stupid enough to go back after
that?"
"Obviously some people. Some of my old
friends were talking about going back, saying Sloth probably learned his lesson.
My owner also sold our Lab Maps dirt cheap after what happened, and they were
bought in an instant," Terke replied.
"Morons," Dugnorf hissed as he went back
to his book.
Pricsesa looked kind of down-heartened,
thinking that what she did was almost worthless. However, Terke realized what
she was thinking.
"Don't think you didn't help, though.
Many people have stopped going to the Lab Ray altogether after realizing how
dangerous it was," he said quickly.
"Told you it was dangerous," Trella beamed.
Terke nodded. "I regret going now. Many
pets do. You saved a lot of lives Pricsesa-"
"Uhm, uhm?" Dugnorf puffed from his book.
"Pricsesa saved a lot of lives? What are me and Trella, invisible? Did we just
sit idly and eat truffles throughout the whole incident? "
"You all saved a lot of lives," Terke
corrected. "And the whole of Neopia owes you. So on the behalf of Neopia, I
thank you for everything you've done. Neopia wouldn't have been the same without
you."
