It was a lovely day in the land of Neopia. The sun was high in the sky, the
Pteris were singing and the Neopians were going about their daily business;
donating to the Money Tree, buying food and their favourite slushies, and enjoying
themselves very much.
Out of the auction house, came a very smug Kacheek, for he had just bought
a Codestone for 200 NP...WHAT A BARGAIN!!! This blue Kacheek is called Bubbles,
and he loves finding bargains because it means he can make money for his owner.
Bubbles walked through Neopia Central, past the Bizarre, into the Marketplace
and into his shop. He looked around his shop and smiled. He saw all the huge
cages full of Noils, Babaas, Angelpusses and Doglefoxes. He saw all the faeries
in their bottles and shelves upon shelves of books. He’d bought all of these
items at bargain prices and his owner had been very happy.
"Morning Sweetie," said a voice behind him. He turned around. It was his owner
Melanie.
"Hello. Look what I brought back from the Auction House," said Bubbles.
"It was only 200 NP," he boasted shopping her the Codestone, with
a wide grin across his face. He waited for the "Well done!" and the
pat on the head… but they didn’t come.
All Melanie said was, "Pop it on the shelf then love." Bubbles flung
it on the shelf and ran upstairs to his bedroom, full of posters of, "Chomby
and the Fungus Balls." While he was up there, he thought to himself,"
No one appreciates me, I’ll make everyone think I’m a hero." So he ran
downstairs, put on his M*YNCI Jacket and headed for the streets of Neopia.
Bubbles was just walking past the bookshop when he saw someone with a bagful
of money, running down the street. "Here’s my chance to be a hero," he thought.
So he ran off down the street after him. After a couple of minutes he caught
the thief, who turned out to be a petrified Poogle.
"Ah ha, I’ve caught you," shouted Bubbles.
Two Chias grabbed Bubbles by the paws and held him back. They were Chia police
officers and didn’t look too pleased.
"But I’m a hero."
"A hero? Attacking an innocent boy?"
"But..."
"He got his pocket money out of his mother’s account and he was rushing off
to by himself a toy and some sweets. Then you came and chased him. No go away,
and I want to hear of no more trouble."
So poor Bubbles slowly walked home, dragging his feet behind him. As he was
heading back, he noticed someone on Terror Mountain. And if they didn’t watch
themselves, they were going to fall off.
"Here’s my chance to be a hero!" thought Bubbles. He trudged up the mountain
and saw it was a Tuskaninny at the top. He grabbed the Tuskaninny and pulled
him down the mountain.
"Ah ha, I’ve saved you."
"Get off me. I was playing Cliffhanger, you pesky Kacheek. Buzz off."
Poor Bubbles walked home crying, When he got there, his owner Melanie, asked,
"What’s wrong with you?"
"You wouldn’t understand," he replied and went upstairs for a nap.
While he was asleep, he dreamt he had run away from home and was really happy.
When he woke up, he packed some of his things, and went downstairs to wait until
Melanie had gone out so he could get out without her seeing him. Bubbles plodded
into the kitchen. Little did he know that Melanie had had a visit from the police
officers.
"Will you go and buy me some bread and Neocola please dear?" Melanie asked.
The money’s on the table. Bubbles grabbed the money and rushed out of the door
in a rage. He was just a slave to Melanie. When he next got the chance, he was
leaving. He decided he would get the shopping, go home, get his bag and announce
he was leaving. He had already started making up his speech when he arrived
home.
"Meli??!!" There was no reply.
"Where are you?" He was getting a bit frustrated, when…
"SURPRISE!!!"
Crowds of people were standing in his living room. He saw the Tuskaninny and
the Poogle and the two Chias and all of his friends. Then he saw Melanie smiling
at him.
"I noticed you were down in the dumps and have been trying so hard to please
everybody lately, so I decided to show you how much I love you," said Melanie.
Bubbles blushed as red as a tomato.
"You’re the best pet ever," said Melanie. And a huge grin burst across the
little Kacheek's face.
