Addicted to Purple

by purplehopeandlight

This story starts out with me, a newborn female Purple Grundo, being taken to the Space Adoption Agency. I was put in a cage near the back with a newborn male Blue Grundo. We became friends instantly.

During my first day a the Agency, I learned to hate the Agency's Agent. When people came to adopt one of us, he tried to convince them not to. He amused himself by naming me and the rest of the Grundos names like no name, unknown, will never have a decent name, none, and he'd also name us Slob, Fatso, and Stupid. My name was Untitled. My friend's name was Who Knows? Secretly, we named each other names that we'd like to have. Mine was PurpleAngel, and my friend's was BlueCloud. BlueCloud and I bared through hardships and troubles together. He knew all my secrets, and I knew all of his. We sometimes finished each other's sentences. We got two white bandannas from a newbie who was adopting a Grundo from the cage next to ours, and we both solemnly swore to always wear our bandanna around our wrists once we were adopted so that we had a chance of finding each other.

Then, one night, purplehopeandlight walked into the agency. She was to be my owner, though I didn't know that then. The agent did the usual trying to convince purplehopeandlight not to adopt. She simply shouldered past him to the cages. She just glanced at the cages near the front, and started working her way back. As she neared me and BlueCloud's cage, I could hear her muttering, "Purple... Purple... Please let there be purple."

I held my hands out to check that they were still purple. Sure enough, they were they same color they were yesterday. I allowed a smile to play on my lips. I then thought about BlueCloud and my smile turned into a frown. If I was adopted, would I ever see him again.

When purplehopeandlight got to my cage, she smiled a smile that seemed to me to brighten the dark room. She opened the door to my cage, and held out a hand to me. I started to walk towards it, then remembered something and ran to the back of my cage and grabbed my bandanna. I tied it around my wrist and ran to purplehopeandlight's hand. She lifted me with one hand, brought it to the other hand, and held me tight in her arms. I purred softly. Did you know that Grundos purr? Anyway, I purred, and she giggled and rubbed me in-between my ears. She had a beautiful, light, laugh.

When we got back to the front desk, the agent scowled and grouchily asked, "What name would you like?" I said clearly, "PurpleAngel"

The agent looked at his list and said roughly, "Taken."

"I always liked PurpleDestiny," offered purplehopeandlight.

"Taken," was the reply.

"Hmmm..." purplehopeandlight held me out in front of her as if sizing me up. "You're of a more lighter purple than just purple. How about LightPurpleDestiny?" I thought about it and nodded.

The agent checked his list. "No NeoPet by that name. LightPurpleDestiny it is." As if by magic, my name appeared on his list. "Just sign these papers and you are free to go" said the agent while pushing a small stack of papers towards purplehopeandlight. She signed it and we strolled out the door. That very night that purplehopeandlight adopted me, a very special star supernova-ed.

On the spaceship ride down to Neopia, I asked purplehopeandlight a question that had been bothering me every since she took me out of my cage. "Why were you muttering purple over and over again when you were looking at the Grundos in their cages before you got to me?"

She smiled and answered, "I'm addicted to purple. The reason why I wanted a Grundo was that Grundos are the only NeoPets who you can adopt in purple and I don't have enough Neopoints to afford a Purple Paint Brush, since I'm a newbie. Oh, and by the way, you can call me Izzy."

I said, "All right." After a moments pause, I added, "Izzy."

***

When we got off the spaceship, it was night in Neopia. We had a pizza at Pizzaroo, and rented a room in the Neolodge for one night. I asked Izzy how she could afford that, and she answered, "I may not have enough Neopoints to buy a Purple Paint Brush, but I do have enough to have a good time."

The next day, we got some doughnuts and muffins at the bakery for breakfast before taking an aircraft pod to Izzy's NeoHome. It was beautiful. Plus, there were other Grundos in the neighborhood. Izzy gave me a tour of our NeoHome. Her room was very purple.

That night, Izzy said that she had to go out. She asked if I would be okay by myself for an hour or so. I nodded. I spent the rest of the night on her computer on this really cool site where you can have your own pet and name it and explore worlds and play games.

Later that night, Izzy came back burdened with shopping bags. She set them all on the floor in the living room. She said, "I got some thing's for you," and took out some wrapped gifts from a couple of her shopping bags. I opened the first and it had a Grundo Plushie. Same with the second and third. The fourth had lot's of Grundo Keychains. The fifth had a Usuki Doll and a few of her accessories. From the sixth was a box with holes. I opened it and a Bearog leapt out at me and licked my face affectingly.

Izzy asked, "What are you going to name it?"

"BlueCloud," I answered instantly.

A week after I got BlueCloud, I walked into Grundo's Academy weighed down with many fears and many heavy books. I met three other female Grundos my age and we became a tight clique of friends. They called my Dest. Everyday that I attended Grundo's Academy, I searched in vain for a Blue Grundo my age with a white bandanna around his wrist.

One day, I came home to find that Izzy had set me up with a male Grundo. It turned out that I had my first date with him that night! Izzy painted my nails black with little yellow stars. At 6:30, the Grundo showed up at my doorstep. He was a handsome Christmas Grundo whose name was BowWaw. He took me to a fancy restaurant, and I have to admit, I had a good time. He took me on many other dates, but we were very stiff with each other. It wasn't at all like the love stories I had read. We didn't know any of each other's secrets, and I know we wouldn't be soul mates.

Sure enough, one day he and his owner were frozen. I asked Izzy what the meant, and she answered, "It means that they did something very bad. BowWaw will become a newborn Grundo without a name, and his owner will have to come back with a different name."

Izzy had asked me about my bandanna before, but I wouldn't answer her. I decided his was a good time to tell her about BlueCloud. When I had finished, she looked up BlueCloud. "BlueCloud is the name of a Uni, so it can't be him." After that, we spent days and weeks looking for him in places where we had visited before. We took cruises to Krawk Island and Mystery Island. We took a rocket to VirtuPets Space Station. We took a aircraft pod to Faerieland. We trekked across the Lost Desert. We hiked our way up Terror Mountain despite the freezing cold weather, ice chunks, and almost hard gusts of wind. We tried to understand the Tyrannian's language. We screamed our way through Haunted Forest. Everywhere we went, Izzy and I asked about a male Blue Grundo my age with a white bandanna around his wrist. Several NeoPets and people claimed to have seen him, but didn't know his name.

After a long time, we came home, having given up our search. We moped around our NeoHome for awhile. Fortunately, we did our travels during summer break, so I didn't miss any school. After awhile, we went shopping in the Neopian Bazaar. I was first to notice him.

"BlueCloud!" He didn't look up. I ran over to him. "Don't you remember me?"

BlueCloud answered, "Why should I? I don't think I've ever seen you before."

I sighed dejectedly, and turned away. I then thought of something. "Do you remember PurpleAngel?"

BlueCloud dropped the Neocola he was drinking. "PurpleAngel. It couldn't be," he managed to gasp out.

"In the flesh," I replied showing him my bandanna. "Except my name isn't PurpleAngel anymore. It's LightPurpleDestiny."

"And mine isn't BlueCloud. It's LightBlueCloud. People were telling my that a Purple Grundo was looking for me, but I didn't know it would be you, er...um..."

"Dest. Just call me Dest. That's what all my friends call me."

"Call me Clo."

"Dest!" yelled Izzy.

"Clo!" yelled a handsome brown-haired boy I didn't know.

"There you are!" they said at the same time. They looked at each other and blushed.

"Um, so is she your NeoPet?" asked the boy. Izzy nodded quickly and looked down at the ground. I could see that her face was flushing. The boy was also crimson.

"Clo told me a lot about PurpleAngel and their bandanna thing."

Izzy looked up and said, "Her name is LightPurpleDestiny. I've heard a lot about BlueCloud."

"His name isn't BlueCloud. It's LightBlueCloud," he corrected her.

They smiled at each other and Izzy giggled her pretty laugh. By the look on the boys face, it must brighten up his day, too.

Now, Clo and me visit each other often, and when we're not visiting each other, we're Neomailing each other. I think I have found my soul mate, and the whole time he was right under my nose. I think Izzy has found hers, too. She and Clo's owner obviously more than just good friends, but won't admit it to each other. They're always out doing something fun or going on an adventure together, sometimes with Clo and I, sometimes not.

Izzy finally saved up enough for a Purple Paint Brush, bought it, and checked the list at the Rainbow Pool for the cutest NeoPet that she could paint purple. She finally picked a Shoyru, adopted a newborn, and painted it purple. I'm proud to welcome PlushPurpleFaith into my family. She's adorable!

The End

purplehopeandlight's note to readers-if your pet's name is LightBlueCloud, it is not in this story. Clo is my made-up character. Hope you enjoyed my story! Bye-bye
