The Fine Arts of Auctioning and Bidding

by kougra_master87

Maybe you have tried to put an item up for auction, and no one seems to buy. Or maybe you've bid on items and never seem to get that elusive top bid. Here, I'll show you the ins and outs of auctioning and bidding from my own personal experience.

Auctioning:
I usually like to use the one hour auctions for fast money. I would say that three hours is definitely the maximum time you should allow your item to be up for auction. Having it sit there and gather dust for an entire day is really unnecessary. Then, you must choose your starting price. For smaller items, like food or toys, I like to start at 1 NP. For larger items, such as codestones, faeries, or map pieces, I like to start at 100-1000 NP. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR BID INCREMENT AT 1 NP!!! If you action something off at 1 NP then put your increment at 1000 NP, no one is going to buy. I see people doing this all the time and they never get a bid. Or people will have their asking price for a codestone at 100,000 NP. No one is going to buy a codestone for that much money. Always check up on your items. When there is about 5 minutes left in your auction, the real fun stuff will start. People will start fighting over your item, and usually they go above what you would normally have sold it for in a shop. And now all you have to do is wait for them to take it away and pay you.

Bidding:
If you're looking for a particular item, for a quest or something, I suggest using the auction genie. If you're just looking for a great deal, then here are some suggestions. If you have a fast computer, click on the link that says auctions 21-40. You will have the best chance of getting an item there. If you do not have a fast computer, use the link that says auctions 41-60. When you find an item that you want to bid on, make sure there are other bids on it already. If there aren't, or there is only one bid, don't bid on it. Chances are that it is overpriced and you won't make any money off of it. If there are bids on it, click on the link. You will see the bidding screen. This is where the people using the auction genie come back into the picture. Now click on the place bid button underneath the box that automatically fills in the next highest bid for you. If your bid is successful, keep refreshing to make sure no one else has place a bid above yours. If your bid is unsuccessful, keep trying, you'll get it eventually. If someone bids above you, click on the button again. But, if it's an increment of 50-100+ NP, you might want to wait until someone else bids above that one, to make sure that the price isn't too high. Just keep refreshing and clicking until the auction is over and you'll have about a 75% chance of getting the item.

Remember, never buy items that are way overpriced and never overprice your items. Wait for people to bid, they will make you a profit, don't try to make profits with your asking price, it won't work. Always make sure there are at least two bids on an item you want to bid on and don't make the first bid above a bidder who made a huge increment.

Follow these simple rules and auctioning and bidding should be much easier for you.
