So, maybe you don’t excel at science, but you can still rule the lab. Yes,
even you can rule Korbat
Lab.
The rules of the game
Your objective is to destroy as many of Dr. Sloth’s spell boxes as possible.
The hazards
Spyders, Korbats, and potions
The beneficial things
Spyders, Korbats, and potions
Wait! Did I repeat myself? I believe I did. The first concept that all players
need to keep in mind is that, much like a game of pinball, all obstacles can
be used to your benefit or to your destruction.
Spyders and Korbats
Spyders and Korbats can positively effect the game by getting you out of messy
situations. For example, when the ball is stuck in a pattern or simply stuck
somewhere on the screen they can be of help. Korbats and Spyders can also cause
the ball to veer in a direction that will knock out many more spell boxes than
you would have gotten without their interferance. However, they can also cause
problems. Spyders can effectively block your ball from hitting a spell box,
veer the ball in a crazy direction, or cause the ball to go in that annoying
slow zig zag down the screen.
Potions
Potions have various effects on game play depending on their color. The best
way to find out what any potion does is to try as many as possible one game
and see how they effect the game. Don’t send the score if you don’t do well.
No harm done.
Just to get you curious, I will tell you what a few of the potions do. Like
Spyders and Korbats they can be positive or negative depending on the situation.
Red potion - Positive: Turns the ball red and gives it the ability
to go through even metal boxes. This will only last for a short time and then
your ball will return to normal. Negative: Use with caution because sometimes
knocking out metal areas just makes it harder to get remaining spell boxes.
Black potion - Positive: Creates a missile that will explode
a spell box directly above it. Negative: It will not destroy metal boxes
or help much if the area is already cleared.
Positive? Negative? You decide with the rest.
Pink potion - Changes the paddle size
Blue potion - Effects speed of the paddle
Other potions that I have seen can start you over at the level, speed up play,
cause an explosion, and give you another life.
Tips of the game from a Grand Master
Tip 1 - Not all potions should be picked up
Some potions are not useful or negative in your current situation. Don’t get
distracted by picking up potion and miss the ball. The best potion in the world
is not worth missing the ball. If you miss the ball the potion is useless anyway.
Tip 2 - Keep your eyes on the ball
This should go without saying, but is important to keep in mind. Fire may rain
down from on high, explosions shake the screen, money bags or potions fall from
destroyed spell boxes, but you still to be focused on the ball. If you get some
money or a cool potion, wonderful. If you don’t , there will be another opportunity
soon. The name of the game is total points and high points are made by keeping
the ball in the air.
Tip 3 - Try to get the ball to the top of the spell boxes
This may not always be possible but when it is bounce your balls off the walls,
Korbats, metal boxes, or anything else that will get you to the top of the screen.
The ball will knock out many boxes (in most cases) if you can just get it to
bounce between the top of the screen and the spell boxes. In some levels the
only way to win the level is to get your ball in the very top area of the screen.
Tip 4 - Always keep your paddle in close proximity the ball
Get in the habit of moving your paddle with the ball movement so if a Spyder
or Korbat effects the direction of the ball you will be ready. If you do this
you will be able to save a lot more balls in later levels when your paddle becomes
slower.
Tip 5 - Be patient
If your ball gets stuck, if you keep going in a zig zag or any other pattern,
or if you keep missing the same box 10 times in a row, keep playing. Wait for
a Korbat to knock your ball to you or away from the pattern. Try moving your
paddle while hitting the ball to see if that will change the pattern of a ball
in a rut.
Don’t give up and you will be a Grand Master of the lab too! |
