And It Was All for a Krawk

by wolves4ever

It was a wonderful day in Neopia. Arfarf21 the red Usul and her Grakle Trap, Beth, were window shopping. Of course, Wolves4ever, Arfarf's owner, was fairly rich with over 200,000 NP. She could afford most of those things but preferred to not spend it too often. Arfarf put walked into one shop. She picked up some Grakles for Beth and also some fertilizer to keep Beth's leaves shiny. She was about to leave the store, when she saw it. A cloud paint brush. It was in a display case. Arfarf placed her paws on the case. For so long, she had wanted a cloud brush. But she knew Wolves would never let her have one yet. Money was already being saved for Blueberry_Evermore's cloud paint brush. Blueberry was desperate to get out of the colour she had. It had once been a lovely lavender. But NeoPets had changed all purple Grundos to dark purple with orange spots. The whole family agreed that it made the Grundos look diseased.

As Arfarf and Beth walked home, they noticed a huge commotion. There was something very creepy going on at Krawk Island. Strange Krawk-like NeoPets were showing up. In the news, there were several pictures. One was of a sketched creature. Another was a blurry photo of a greenish form running along the beach and into the woods. Arfarf and Beth rushed home.

Wolves wasn't nervous. She thought the Krawk creatures were adorable. They reminded her of her favorite mythical creature, the Chupacabra. She wanted one to keep and raise in one of her other NeoHomes. But how could she get one?

"Wolves, this isn't a good idea. What if those Krawk things ambush you in your sleep and try to suck out your bone marrow?" Arfarf, Jerad, and Wolves were going to the chat boards to ask for the solution to the mystery. Blackjack was baby-sitting Bee at home. And Arfarf was nervous.

"That's just an urban legend," Wolves answered. "You two wait in the market while I go ask." She left.

"Ooh, ooh! I wanna go to the furniture store! Please please please?" Jerad was a young blue Kacheek and was always hyper.

Arfarf sighed and took him to the store. She looking around and smelling the good smell that furniture stores have. As she was looking at a selection of rugs, she heard a crash followed by an angry yell.

"OUT, OUT, OUT!"

The green Eyrie shop owner was chasing Jerad from the store. Arfarf groaned and followed. When they were outside, she asked Jerad what had happened.

"I broke a vase," Jerad said cheerfully. "Can we go to the toy store? Can we go to the wishing well? I wanna wish for NeoQuest plushie! I wanna wish for a paint brush! I want a yo-yo! I want an Acara cookie! Can we go to the money tree? I wanna go play in the garden shop! I want a collar! I want a toy train so I can play with it twice and then I wanna go see the soup kitchen!" He bounced around, just saying anything on his mind.

When Wolves came back, Arfarf was banging her head on the health food store side wall. Jerad was still bouncing around rambling off his list of desires.

"I found a way to get a Krawk. But we need a Krawk PetPet first. And those things aren't cheap."

As much as it shocked me, we went to the bank. Taking a deep breath Wolves withdrew all but 47,000 NP. First we went to a shop that sold Krawks. Wolves tried to pick one up, but a stupid message came up saying that the item was too rare. So we went to the trading post. Everyone was yelling.

"Why do you think a Fuzzy Bear is worth a whole collection of codestones, coloured carrots, and Mirgles named Arthur?!"

"Shut up, that's why!"

We made our way to a small stand. One sad looking Krawk was sitting in a cage. Wolves put in her money for the lot and we went back to the market to wait for results.

We still had a little money. Jingling it in her pocket, Wolves looked in a shop window. It held an expensive glass paint brush. She walked in and put all the rest of her money on the table. The shop owner beamed as the glass brush was was given to Wolves. I don't know what happened next because my paw went numb and the world went black.

When I woke up, I was in a bed at the Neopian Hospital. My expression hadn't changed since I had fainted at the shop. A smiling green Gelert came in.

"Hello, Arfarf. You'll be fine, but you've suffered two heart attacks in a row! What could have shocked you so badly?"

"Paint brush... so... much money... I'm not rich anymore," I said in a dazed voice.

***

I went home that day. When I got there, Blackjack, Jerad, and Bee looked nervous. They said they had something to show me in our Mystery Island NeoHome.

When we got there, nothing was out of the ordinary. I went and say down on the bamboo bed, someone crept up behind me. Something with scaly blue skin, big yellow eyes, and an enormous smile across its wide mouth.

"HIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I knew that a new addition to our family had come to stay.
