Trading Votes, What by sunshinejenny45 | |
BEAUTY CONTEST - If you have posted a message recently in the Beauty Contest
chat boards, you may have seen the note saying that you are not allowed to trade
more than one vote to get your pet more votes so they become closer to get the
trophy. When I first saw it, I thought my pets would never be able to win without
traded votes. But, to follow the rules, I stopped trading. But some people kept
on trading votes; they just pretended the notice wasn't there, or maybe they
hadn't seen it. I hope that my fellow Beauty Contest contestants will read this
article and realise that if you deserve to win, you will win, if they new rule
is followed.
But what exactly is trading votes, you ask? To trade votes, you would
post a message in the Beauty Contest chat board with a title like "VOTE FOR
ME AND I'LL VOTE FOR YOU!" or something along the lines of that. You tell the
people where to go to vote for your pet, and they tell you once they have voted.
Then, since they voted for your pet, you go to vote for their pet. In short,
trading votes mean that I will vote for your pet, and then you vote for my pet
in return (or the other way around).
Have ever entered a Beauty Contest? If so, chances are, the first few times
you would only get a few votes for your pet (yourself and maybe your friends)
if you weren't a really good artist, like some of the people here. But, if you
go on the Beauty Contest message board and offer to trade votes, you will probably
have many more. I was thrilled to see that my pet had gotten to 10th place (in
her species) in the second day of the Beauty Contest. About 7 of the votes were
from me and my friends, while 25 or so were from trading votes with people.
I thought it was great that I could get so many votes!
I had gone to play some games for awhile, taking a break from the Beauty Contest.
When I returned to the Beauty Contest chat board, I was about to post a message
when I saw the notice. "...offering to trade more than one vote is against the
rules" it read. I was upset, because my main source of getting votes was by
trading. But, if you think about it, it is a good rule. I was sure disappointed
when I had entered one of my pets in the Beauty Contest and they didn't win.
Only 3 pets can win top in the species, so losing was something that happens
to many people. But I had thought that the picture was a really good picture,
and it deserved to be in the top 20 or so. But now, with the new rule, hopefully
if there is a really good picture it has a better chance of winning... but that
is only if everyone follows the rules.
As you probably already know from reading this article, I think that this
is an excellent rule. What about everyone else's views on the subject? I could
not interview everyone in Neopia of course, but I found some people willing
to tell me what they thought of the rule.
Several thought that it was a good rule, as one person said "I just think
vote trading is a little dishonest. It puts others who are unable to find people
to trade votes with at a major disadvantage."
Some thought that it was not a good rule. "If you can only trade one vote,
what good is it? You can't win that way." Another said "It's good because it
makes the contest somewhat fair, but it's bad because the people with huge guilds
will win, and that's not very fair." (If you are in a big guild, most people
would ask the members to vote for them.) Before the interview, a few people
were not aware of the rule (which is understandable, it had just been released
that day), but most thought that the rule had already been stated, or that eventually
something would be done about it.
Will my fellow Neopians follow the rules, and trade one vote only? "Certainly,"
said one. "I'll follow my own ethics, and since those happen to be concurrent
than the rules, I've got no problems." Another said, "Probably. I've seen people
get in trouble for it." One person said, "I may forget a few times."
If you have been reading this article and you have entered your pets in the
Beauty Contest and have always used trading votes to help you, you may be thinking
up new ways to get more votes. Some people won't care about the new rule, and
they will continue to trade votes, or they will start trading items in exchange
for votes, even if it already is against the rules. Some may just post ads all
over the message board, in places where they shouldn't be, like the Role Playing
board. Also, if your friends want to send you an important message through Neomail,
they may not be able to. If your inbox is full of "Vote for My Pet!" messages
from other people, then they cannot contact you. So please, if you want people
to vote for you do not do any of these things, as many people will be
annoyed. A message in the Beauty Contest board every few hours or so will be
fine.
One person said, "If the Beauty Contest was just voting for the art itself,
it would be fair." I agree to that wholeheartedly, and hope that in the future,
the contest will be won because of the pet's owner's artistic talent (or the
pet's artistic talent, if the pet happens to have drawn the picture). Thank
you for reading my article. It is up to you, whether you follow the rules or
not, but hopefully if this article is published, a few people may realise that
in the Beauty Contest you should vote because you like the picture. |
