The Stock Market

by starsparked

NEODAQ - Click! The game screen pops up. Hmm, what to choose? Puzzles or Action? Maybe Luck & Chance would be a good idea to do now. You scroll down a bit. Battledome! How about knocking the socks off of Punchbag Bob now? You have been wanting that trophy for a while now just never had the time (5000 HP to knock down to 0!)...

Oh! Beauty contest! You've been meaning to enter your cute Baby Aisha in the contest and hopefully score a gold trophy at least in the Aisha division.

Decisions, decisions! What to choose? So many choices of things to do!

Finally deciding to close your eyes and swish around your mouse a bit and click and that's where your final destination would be before logging off for the day. A second later a new screen shows up and you're at...

The stock market?

Who ever goes there? The stock market is made for old people that are trying to bring the real world into Neopia! Or is it...?

Well you did promise yourself that wherever you clicked it would be the place you stayed at until you had to log out. So you decide to venture in and buy a few stocks here or there. First, you would go to the Stock Tips Message Board for a little help.

Help! I'm new to the stock market and I need a few explanations to it! you type in big bold letters, hoping to catch the attention of nice people that know the stock market like the back of their hand.

Unfortunately, at that hour, there is no one willing to help. All you get are a few messages that say "oh you stupid n00b, learn it yourself!" That is a very common reply to a message asking for help with stocks. Most people, unfortunately, do not have enough time or patience to explain it all. You either get the n00b message or the "buy low, sell high!" message. Which isn't much help either.

If you want to discover the complete NP making way of the stock market, you're in luck. I have compiled a list of steps to do when you first arrive at the scene of the stock market.

Step One: Check out the prices per share of each stock
You check out the prices of the stocks right here. To find the histories of each stock and get a little background on them you can go to Neodaq.com, which is highly suggested, but not completely necessary.

Step Two: Buy a cheap stock
It is suggested to buy a cheap stock, around 15-17 NP per share. (Neopets made a rule that the lowest amount of neopoints per share is 15 NP for you to buy a stock). You have a limit of 1000 shares to be bought per day, so take care to choose wisely. Also, if you have checked neodaq.com you can look at a history chart to see if the stock is on it's way down or up. If you chose smartly, you will be picking one on the way up. If you didn't know that it was on its way down, DO NOT WORRY. Every stock eventually goes back up.

Step Three: Check your portfolio regularly
Make sure you check your portfolio (which is located here) often. At least once a day. If possible, a few times a day with plenty of time between each check-up. It is important to track your stocks success or downfalls every day or so.

Step Four: Sell when the time is right
If the stock price per share has risen to the point where you are making a profit you like, then you can go SELL. Some people prefer to wait until it reaches it's high (you can find that on Neodaq.com as well) and then sell but if you are satisfied with the profit you have made then go right ahead and sell.

THEN, REPEAT.

I personally have made over 150,000 neopoints from the stock market, PLUS some of my stocks are below the price that I bought them for (slowly rising) and I do not expect to make much neopoints yet, but as time goes on and my techniques slowly get better and sharper, I expect to make mucho dinero off of this stock market.

And I conclude my little stock market bit with a few last tips:

Do not hesitate to go to the Stock Tips board and ask about a certain stock. There will usually be stock market GENIUSES (much more experienced and smarter than me) hanging around there that are most of the time willing to answer your questions. There will always be the rude person that calls you a "silly n00b" (a n00b is a newbie) but do not be discouraged by nasty folk, they are probably just bored.

Next, if your stock is below the price you bought then do not go hysterical or anything. Just wait it out and it will rise after you hang on a bit.

Third, before you go off and beg people to buy a stock so that the price value will rise, you should know that Neopets has made that random. This is not completely like the REAL WORLD stock market. It does not matter how many people own shares in a particular stock-it doesn't affect it. That is a common mistake many people make!

And lastly, the most important thing to remember (or at least one of them) about the Stock Market is that it is a WAITING GAME. It's not a get-rich-quick solution to your NP problems. If you want to hurry up and earn neopoints, the stock market isn't the best idea. Playing every game in the games area will most definitely earn you much neopoints. The stock market, however, is for the patient person who is willing to wait to earn thousands of NP in profit. ;)
