Celest the Magic
Lupe Con't

Celest or Star?
"Star," whispered Galilobo,
leader of the Lupes. He lifted Celest's head so he could see her face.
"Star, is it you?" he asked her. Celest lowered her face away from Galilobo's
and said, "I...I don't know. I heard your conversation. I'm Celest and
I live with a witch, but I do not-" She looked Galilobo in the eyes. "I
do not remember," she said softly. Tears came to Galilobo's soft blue
eyes. Celest looked around at the others. They were all looking at her
and Galilobo, some with quite sad expressions. Celest wondered why she
didn't feel embarrassed, and then a memory came to her:
A dark Lupe, walking in
front of her. She felt almost asleep, but she was following him. She kept
walking until she heard someone far behind, maybe Galilobo, yell, "Star!
She's gone!" With this, the dark shadowy Lupe walked faster and began
to run. Celest's mind was cloudy. It was as though she wasn't controlling
her own legs. After a while, the black Lupe came to the edge of a cliff
and put his paws on Celest.. Before the dark Lupe could push Celest off
the cliff, a large green Lupe pushed him out of the way. Then her mind
went blank...
Yes, yes!" she cried, "I remember
now! I am Star! I remember that I was led to the edge of a steep
cliff by the dark Lupe and a green Lupe came and saved me...then I forgot
everything...." She looked up at Galilobo again. "Galilobo!" said the
green Lupe, "It was I! It was I who saved Star from Shadow!" Softly, Galilobo
said, "You shall stay with us, Star." Celest shook her head, "I must go
back to Anna-er-the witch. I have to tell her what has happened." "Very
well," said Galilobo, "but you must return tomorrow to this same spot.
I mustn't lose you again." "Thank you!" said Celest, getting to her feet,
"I promise I'll come back!"
The Remembrance Spell
"Celest! Oh, Celest! Where
are you?!" Anna cried outside the cabin. But no answer came. Suddenly
she heard the pitter-patter of feet. She grabbed her wand from inside
her cloak and pointed it in the direction of the noise. The tip of the
wand illuminated, revealing a yellow Lupe coming straight toward her.
"Celest!" Anna called, "You gave me quite a scare!" Celest jumped on top
of Anna and started to lick her face. Anna laughed and said, "My, my!
What's gotten into you?" Anna scrambled to her feet. "Anna! Anna, I saw
Lupes! Magic ones just like me!!!" she said excitedly, hopping all around.
"Are you sure?!" Anna asked. "Yes! Yes! And...I belong with them," Celest
said almost sadly. "What do you mean?" Anna asked.
Celest explained the whole
thing from searching for the strange smell to the promise of return to
her pack of Lupes. "Will you come back?" Anna asked with a look of worry
on her face. "I don't know," said Celest, "I am not sure yet." "Then we'll
have to make you a Remembrance Spell," said Anna. "A what?" Celest asked,
cocking her head to the side. "A Remembrance Spell," Anna repeated, "for
once, my witching powers will be good for something." She and Anna walked
inside to search through the piles and piles of spell books.
Meanwhile, outside of their
cabin, the green Lupe had been watching Anna and Celest. He returned to
the pack to find that all the males, except Galilobo, had already gone
off hunting. The green Lupe made his way towards Galilobo and took in
a breath to talk. "Stop, Scout." said Galilobo, "You mustn't go spying
on Star and the witch. Leave them be for now. They need some time alone
to say good-bye. Humans don't understand the flow of nature like the green
Lupes, or the signs in fire like the red Lupes, or the interpretations
of the sea like the blue Lupes, or the dances of the light like yellow
Lupes. Nor can they understand the coming of the darkness that only Shadow
can sense. Only magical Lupes like us can understand those things. And
only Star and I can understand all of it." Scout, the green Lupe, was
dumbfounded. Scout shook his head in disbelief. "So you wonder how I knew
that you were spying?" Galilobo said with a laugh, "You are such a young
Lupe. You do not yet understand the wonders of the white Lupe. I have
the ability to read minds. Although I do not use it much, I prefer to
have others tell me in their own words. You, on the other hand, would
not have told me all that you heard. Why is that, Scout?" "I-I didn't
want to-to," Scout stuttered. "You didn't want to disappoint me by telling
me that Star looked sad about leaving?" Galilobo finished, "Scout, I would
not be disappointed by that. Star has a right to be sad. She has been
with the witch for a long time. I understand."
Back at the cabin, Anna prepared
the Remembrance Spell. "Ah!" said Anna, with her finger on a page of an
old, battered spell book, "Here it is. Celest, get ready." Celest sat
in the middle of the room and waited while Anna took out her wand. "Reminisi!"
Anna called out, and a burst of white light surrounded Celest. Suddenly,
a wave of lost memories floated through Celest's mind:
She and a few other small
Lupes were sitting on a rock. Faeries were floating all around them, picking
different ones and changing their colors to fit their within their element.
The Faerie Queen floated towards her and chose her.
A meeting. She was side-by-side
with Galilobo. The dark Lupe was sitting on a rock next to them. Galilobo
shouted out, "Exile!" and the Dark Lupe was taken away.
The memories continued to flash
through her mind. When they stopped, Celest knew exactly who she was and
where she came from. She also knew how she had become separated from her
pack and how she came to be with Anna. "I do," she said softly, "I do
belong with them."
To be continued...
