The Legend of the Sun and the Moon

A long time ago when Neopia was still fresh and new there was a happy little Chia by the name of Sunshine. He lived alone with his owner. Things were simple for him. All his owner ever did with him was feed him and maybe play some games. Sunshine was happy though. He felt that his owner loved him and would care for him always. Later, around February Sunshine noticed that his owner would log on NeoPets more then she used to. This excited the Chia. "Great!" he thought, "We can play more often now!"

But his owner didn't play with him. She would just log on, look at the news, and then leave. Although this disappointed Sunshine, he would never lose hope that his owner would come play with him. Sunshine waited and waited for his owner until February 10th. His owner logged in as usual. She then looked at the news. But she never logged out. "Hooray!" Sunshine thought, "She's finally going to play with me!" But instead of clicking to "games" she clicked "create a pet". Sunshine was horrified. He was an only pet for so long! Surely his owner wouldn't create a new pet. What if she forgot about him? Sunshine shook his head. "No! My owner would never forget about me... but, why are we here?" Sunshine spoke to his owner for the first time in a long time. "Um, why are we h-" but before he could say another word, his owner snapped. "Be quiet Chia." "Chia?" Sunshine thought. "Chia? I have a name!" Sunshine began to worry again. "That's it!" he thought. I have to know what's happening. I'm going to ask what's wrong." But he never got a chance to.

He saw his owner with a new yellow Peophin. His owner left after that, leaving Sunshine alone with the new Peophin. "Maybe this won't be so bad! I could have a new friend!" Sunshine thought. "Hi! I'm Sunshine! What's your name?" he said to the Peophin. "I am Moonbeam," she replied, "Our owner's new favourite pet." Sunshine felt as if he had been punched in the stomach. "W-what?" he stammered. "You heard me," Moonbeam answered. "No, our owner loves us equally!" Sunshine exclaimed. The Peophin laughed, "No she doesn't. Tomorrow you will see..." "How?" Sunshine demanded, But Moonbeam never answered him.

The next day Sunshine and Moonbeam's owner logged on to NeoPets bright and early. She fed Moonbeam but left Sunshine alone. "She's just being nice," Sunshine thought, "She'll feed me soon." After she fed Moonbeam three bananas she clicked up to the pound. "Huh?" Sunshine thought. "What's she doing now?" Sunshine was confused and his face must have shown it because Moonbeam was giggling beside him. "Is she adopting a new pet?" Sunshine thought. "That must be it." Sunshine's owner picked up Sunshine and put him on the front desk. "I wish to disown this Chia," she said to Miss Worley.

Sunshine was too shocked to speak. Moonbeam walked up to him and whispered, "I told you so." She then stepped back and smiled at his scared face. "No!" Sunshine screamed! "You won't take me!" He then ran out of the pound. He ran until everything around him was new. He was lost. "Here I am. Ownerless," he thought. Moonbeam was right. Sunshine was too depressed to do anything, even eat. His health dropped. Every day he got hungrier but never ate a thing. Eventually his health got down to dying. He remained in the same area for a long time until one day he heard a cry coming from the river behind him. He walked over to it and saw a yellow Peophin crying. It was Moonbeam. She was skinny and dying like he was.

"Moonbeam?" Sunshine cried. Moonbeam turned around and stared at Sunshine. "I-I'm sorry!" she said. "I never wanted you to go, I just wanted to be the favourite. I thought it was a joke!" "You don't have to apologise. Our awful owner abandoned us," Sunshine said calmly. The Peophin looked sad. "I've been out here for so long feeling awful. Not knowing why I was abandoned. Feeling bad about making you run off." "You didn't make me run off-" "But I made you feel bad," Moonbeam said. "I'm really and truly sorry." Sunshine thought for a moment, "I forgive you."

Nobody knows what happened to them after that. It's said that Sunshine became the sun and Moonbeam became the moon. They both look over Neopia and don't let little pets run away like they did.
