The Glance of Sadness

Everyone thought Lucky290 (Lucky for short) was spoiled. She wasn't really. True this green Usul had lots going for her, but she was very kind-hearted. Lucky had lived in Happy Valley her whole life, not only that she was smart, pretty, and happy. Lucky's owner loved her more than anything, she was always fed, and had a Huggy named Lizzy which she loved very much. Come to think of it, everyone in Happy Valley is happy, whether they are deprived or not. They never saw sadness, there is no pound in Happy Valley.

One day Lucky was flicking through the channels when she stopped at the weather channel. "Today cold, and snowy! Hey that's one thing Neopia doesn't have! There it is 25 degrees Celsius, and quite a lovely day it is!" said the small weather Chia. Hmmm.... I wonder where Neopia is! pondered Lucky. I bet I could find it, that be cool! Lucky thought. "Serena! Serena! I am going outside to play in the snow, is that all right?" "Yes, of course but wear your new Tatsu sweater, I don't want you to catch Neomonia!" her owner, Serena, said. "Yes, Mom," Lucky said as she put on her sweater and scarf. Lucky got an old bag out of her closet and put a thermos of Green Apple Slushie and a plastic baggy filled with grubs, and chicken pieces. She grabbed 5000 Neopoints and walked over to her window. She figured that Neopia was most likely over the small slope by the ice cave. Well, here goes nothing, Lucky thought nervously.

It must have taken Lucky four hours of walking through snow, but she finally reached Neopia. Lucky wasn't sure if she loved it or she was too tired to care. Lucky looked around and spotted the Neolodge. Happily she stumbled to the air-conditioned building (she was awfully hot with all her clothes on).

"I would like a room please," she said to the Shoyru behind the counter.

"Would you like the luxury, deluxe, or economy room?" he asked politely.

"Whatever, I guess the cheapest," she replied.

"All right then, that'd be 70 Neopoints please."

Lucky pulled 70 Neopoints out of her bag. "Here you are, and can you please have a turkey dinner delivered to my room?" she said exasperated.

"Yes, of course ma'am."

Lucky stumbled to her room and opened the door. The room was wonderful, it had blue satin covers on the bed. Beautiful linens were draped everywhere and a basket was on her table that read: Honey I know you went to Neopia. I saw you planning out your route. I expect you home in three days. Love you so much, Serena. Lucky smiled. Inside of the basket were some Muntandos, teal juppies, golden juppies, and 2000 Neopoints. Room service came and Lucky ate hungrily, then fell asleep.

It was the next day and Lucky was in the marketplace. She was smiling happily, she had just bought some iron supplement. She took one of the pills and she felt her muscles become stronger. Strolling down the block she had seen a sale on faeries, only 800 NP! She couldn't resist...he had to purchase an Earth Faerie and a Water Faerie!

Lucky then stopped, for it was the first time ever she heard anger. An angry owner was dragging a hopeless Gelert into a horrible building. This place was the pound. She gasped as she followed the couple into the building.

"I never want to see this thing again! To think I wasted a faerie on it! Humph!" the girl yelled at an ugly lady with purple lips.

"C'mon rover, let's find ya a cage," she grabbed the Gelert by the scruff and pulled him into a room.

Lucky felt something she had never felt before--sadness. She couldn't believe this, how can an owner not love their pet? She marched up to the desk where a Blumaroo was standing, "I want to free all the pets here now!" she screamed.

"Well, I wish you could but you can only have 4 pets at a time, it's the law miss," the Blumaroo said.

Lucky blushed. She hadn't meant to be rude. "Oh than I'd like to free one pet."

"Yes, miss, but does your owner know?"

"Uh...Yes, of course, she sent me here herself. Told me to get any pet, to be my sister, or uh brother," Lucky lied.

"Oh then right this way...pick your pick."

Lucky walked into a room filled with dirty NeoPets, crying, and so sad. I wish I could bring them all to Happy Valley! she thought. Finally, in the corner she saw a green Wocky, it was the saddest of all the pets. She read the card, Kassy Green Wocky 8756 hours old, 43 Neopoints. She's perfect! Lucky thought enthusiastically.

"Excuse me, I want to adopt Kassy!" Lucky filled out the papers, and Kassy was set free. "Hello Kassy, nice to meet you! We are sisters now!" Lucky yelled.

"Oh wow, thank you so much for saving me! I thought I'd spend the rest of my life in there! I'm FREE!!"

"Your welcome, we have to leave now. We'll buy a sweater for you, and we'll go back home tomorrow. I live in Happy Valley mind you!"

"All right, but first I want to get something to eat!"

"Ma! I'm, I mean we're home!"

"Darling I missed you and so did Lizzy, but who's this Wocky?"

"Oops, um...this is my new sister Kassy."

Kassy walked in the door, she looked so pretty covered in snow. Serena ran over and hugged Kassy and whispered, "Welcome Home."
