The Travels of Kaya: The Last Loran Warrior Story

by Erica B.

Long ago there was a castle that was lovely with gold brick and tile, and a baby named Kaya was born into what would be thought a happy life. The castle was being attacked and she was in grave danger. Gorgan was the king of the Loran Castle and the leader of the Loran warriors, whom, except for Kaya and her mother, were fighting for the castle. Gorgan was defeated by Hogar, the Loran family enemy.

"Guards, search the castle for any survivors and bring them to me," ordered a ruthless Hogar. Leonie, who was Kaya's mother, escaped with Kaya close to her chest. At that same moment a skunk Lupe named Ashida, who was meant to be Kaya's pet, dashed out of the castle and hid behind a rock. Leonie set Kaya down in a thick patch of grass and was caught by Hogar's best guard and brought to Hogar, who made quick work of her.

Hogar and his army passed by Ashida's and Kaya's hiding places as the Loran Castle sunk deep into the ocean. Ashida grabbed Kaya and took a boat to a small island just off the coast of Mystery Island. "I'll protect you little one," said Ashida kindly as he and Kaya fell asleep in the boat. The next morning they arrived at the small island and decided to stay there, but Hogar knew about Kaya and was on the look out for the tiny brown haired baby. Kaya was far from safe, and Ashida could not protect her without being in danger. "I'll get you young child sooner or later," hissed Hogar, "No one can help you now." Hogar laughed evilly to himself and walked off in search of Kaya, the last Loran warrior.

Eleven years had passed and Ashida and Kaya moved into Neopia, one of the most friendliest places known to man (and Pet) kind, but the most interesting place to Kaya was the Neopian library. Kaya thought that today was too ordinary to watch movies on a projector or read a newly checked out book, so she decided to look through old newspapers instead. There was one headline that sent shivers up her spine. She turned ghostly white as she read a small article on the front page, dated September 15, 1989: Loran Family Tragedy. Around noon of September 12, of 1989, which was three days ago, a little girl named Kaya Loran, the new addition to the Loran warriors, was born but the Loran Castle sunk into the ocean after being attacked. This little girl may have survived, but one mysterious character claims her to have gone down with the castle. He says he wants the little girl returned to him. If you have any information please go to Warrior Island near Neopia. We doubt the girl to be alive for her mother Leonie was found dead and no survivors were found throughout the castle grounds.

Kaya checked out the newspaper and ran as quickly as possible to her little cottage where she would find Ashida, not knowing that the mysterious person in the newspaper was Hogar. Ashida hesitated, but finally told Kaya the truth. Kaya begged to begin a quest to find her true past. With more hesitation Ashida unwillingly agreed to let Kaya begin her quest, but even though she would have to leave sometime he did not know about Hogar.

Kaya went on her quest early the next morning packing packaged food, a cooler full of water bottles, maps, money, a jacket, a brush, a hat, hiking boots (which she wore), and a Xeroxed copy of the newspaper article. She reread the newspaper article at a small diner. She had waffles, bacon and eggs, and a glass of orange juice, then started on her journey again. When she got to Warrior Island she decided to continue her journey instead of stay trapped in a house that's not even familiar to her, so she left without knocking. Kaya arrived where the Loran Castle used to be...then she got a creepy feeling. The water started to bubble and a glowing crystal ball shot out of the water and floated in the air. "In two days Hogar will find you and without these you will be defeated," chanted the orb as Kaya was surrounded in shoulder, knee, chest, shin, and elbow armor and a sword, a sword belt, an a huge shield appeared out of nowhere and Kaya held on to them. "What ever you do, don't go to Warrior Island." The orb floated into Kaya's backpack and she knew what she had to do.

Kaya tucked everything into her backpack and put her sword into the sword belt and walked off. She made it to Mystery Island where she bumped into a handsome boy about her age, but what she didn't know was that he was her destiny and they were falling in love. The boy, who was named Kody, invited her to stay with him in his house. He told her he was an orphan and she told him she was on a quest about the Loran family. She told him about the newspaper, her quest, and Ashida. They talked and Kaya thought about why they were talking so much, but she didn't care.

Later in the evening, Kaya sat down on her bed and Kody sat down on her pillow. Without thinking Kaya adjusted herself so her head was lying on Kody's lap and fell asleep. Kody went to bed, but his skunk Lupe Ashina (Ashina is Ashida's little sister) was already lying on his bed and Kaya had the spare bed and his floor had carpet, but it had no room because of the bed and the computer and desk. And the living room had space, but no carpet, and he didn't want to sleep on a hardwood floor, so he slept on the floor in Kaya's room.

Kaya felt bad for him and made him sleep on the edge of her bed. The next morning Kody woke up to hear his tea kettle whistling and bacon sizzling. Kaya was up two hours ago and already had ate. Before lunch Kody thought Kaya was a good source of luck. She got him a job at the stables, got the orphanage to lay off and was the only one who could make Ashina get exercise in between meals (Ashina loved Kaya, so when Kaya told her to listen to Kody well, she's now an obedient Lupe). When Kaya explained why she had to leave Kody, he was sad and Ashina didn't understand, but she did have to leave. And it wasn't until the next day she met up with Hogar.

Kaya ran with all her might and found an abandoned fox hole and fell in it just in time. She put on her armor and was ready to fight Hogar.

"Oh dear. You seem to have found the Loran armor haven't you?" questioned Hogar who then roared out, "Well it won't help you Princess. No one or anything can help you now. Come here Kaya."

Kaya fought but was helpless. Then Ashida and Ashina appeared out of nowhere. Hogar knocked them out cold for at least an hour. Kaya went to use her sword, but Hogar knocked it out of her hands, making her defenceless. Kaya had just about given up and when Hogar grabbed her by the neck with one hand. Kaya gave up hope.

She thought to herself, "I'll just end up like the rest of my family. " All of a sudden, Hogar felt an unbearable pain in the arm he held Kaya in. He was cut badly. You see one of the reasons why Kody never went to an orphanage was because he had a warrior past and a priceless handmade sword the was his great, great, great grandfather's. Kody was a warrior. Kaya was sent flying to the ground and landed near her sword. She picked it up and felt her strength return instantly and did what had to be done. With a great leap she finished of Hogar once and for all. Ashina and Ashida woke up and they all cheered. Kaya was exhausted and fell into Kody's arms. She lifted her head up...their lips touched and they kissed ending the travels of Kaya: The Last Loran Warrior.

Epilogue

Fifteen years later, Kaya and Kody got married and had a child who is now eleven and looks like her mom. And as for the Loran Castle. Well, it is now what you Neopians know as Maraqua, but that is not the true name.
