War In Neopia
"Wow," said Kesseh.
"Yes. Look at all the people at the Battledome." I said. "I still don't
want to believe that people honestly want their pets to battle each other.
It's sick. The humans which once loved us have discarded all respect for
our well being and are sending us to get hurt and treating us like-"
"You are not thinking...?"
"Well, I'm worried you'll do the same. It's all just a big game to you
people."
"No. I would never send you in there. Don't be stupid"
"How can you call a NeoPet with an IQ of over 200 stupid?" Kesseh said
with a smile.
"Very funny," I replied.
Kesseh, my Lupe, was acting very strange today. He wasn't his usual active
self. He seemed to be thinking a lot more than he used to and he thinks
far too much anyway.
"I'm heading back," he said.
"So soon?"
"Yes. It gets really cold at this time of night. You coming or are you
going to watch more people be cruel to their pets?"
"Coming..."
As we walked back, we saw some more people taking their pets to the Battledome.
"C'mon Shoyru!!" the owner shouted.
"But I don't wanna..." it replied.
"What are you scared or something? Do you not want to fight?"
"Yes!!"
"Well, too bad! It's either that or I'll put you in the pound and look
for a braver Shoyru that actually does what I tell it!"
At this point my Lupe was getting pretty furious. I knew what he was
thinking, as I was thinking the same too. This had gone too far.
"Stop!!" my Lupe screamed. "That poor Shoyru does not want to fight
and you shouldn't make it!" I agreed, but I didn't say anything, as I
was afraid of getting in trouble.
"Can't you control your pet?? Why don't you tell it to leave me and my
Shoyru alone."
"Why would I want to control my NeoPet? I want a friend, not a slave."
"Yeah, whatever." And with that he grabbed his Shoyru by the wing and
took it to the huge dome, leaving me with an extremely angry Lupe.
"That's IT!!" he screamed. "I've had enough. We NEED to put a stop to
this."
"We can't do anything."
"If people want to battle we have no chance of stopping them."
"Thought so. You won't do anything as you are gonna battle me aren't
you??"
"No, I never said..." but before I could finish Kesseh was running as
fast as he could across the Mystery Island.
So there I stood. In Neopia without a NeoPet. In a matter of hours, I
had lost the only thing in Neopia that I cared about. I shouted his name
a few times. Nothing. It was so quiet now. All I could hear was the chanting
of the people watching the fights.
"I...I..." I stuttered. I didn't know what to say. I was speechless.
In writing I could not describe the feeling I felt. A girl with a Nimmo
walked past me. She didn't seem to have the same anger in her eyes that
everyone else had as they marched to the Battledome.
"Are you okay?" she asked.
"Yeah yeah, fine..." I replied.
Of course I wasn't okay. What am I saying? I was so angry, yet confused,
and depressed at the same time. I was surprised she couldn't tell.
"You don't look okay," she said.
"To be honest, I'm not. It's very complicated. I'm very angry right now
and I'm not exactly in the mood to talk."
"Oh, okay. Where's your NeoPet?"
"It ran away."
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"Why? Why did it run away?"
"Because of the Battledome. I told you it's very complicated."
"What's the Battledome?"
Oh no. Should I tell her? I could end up making her fight her pet like
all those others...oh well...
"Its a place where people fight their pets."
As I said this the Nimmo looked in despair. I knew Nimmos were very intelligent
and he was probably contemplating all the moral issues in there...I think
that's what Kesseh must have been doing as well.
"Sounds cool. Might give it a go."
I felt so guilty. Now that poor Nimmo will probably go through what Kesseh
just did...I'm so useless!!...I....
"What??" I said as I looked in disbelief.
Over the hill, was one of the most horrible things I've ever had the
chance of seeing. People fighting with their own NeoPets. NeoPets fighting
their owners. People fighting people. Everyone fighting. I ran as fast
as I could to the dome to see what was happening. As I ran, a Aisha jumped
out at me and slashed my arm. I fell down to the ground, writhing in pain.
"GOT ANOTHER ONE!!" she screamed as it ran off in search of more.
As I turned my head, I saw Kesseh fighting with the owner of that Shoyru
he saw earlier. He was just as violent as the rest of them. Everything
was rushing round my head. I couldn't even begin to understand what was
going on. The air was hot with action. I was really scared. "Come with
me," said a mysterious voice. As I looked up, I saw a white hand ready
to help me up. I grabbed on.
The mysterious man took me to a back room behind the Battledome. Hundreds
and hundreds of pets were stretched out on cot and nurses were applying
cold cream and ointments to their wounds.
"If you want to help...you can help in here."
And from that day on, Kesseh and I worked in the Battledome clinic and
saved a lot of pet's lives and convinced owners to read them books about
fighting instead of forcing them to enter the Battledome.
