Limit Yourself: Making A Living In Neopia

by oceanstarrex

With the current debate about how high food prices are and how difficult it is to make a living in Neopia, I thought I'd write an article - my strategies have taken me pretty far. :)

1. If you're having trouble scrounging up the change to buy food for your pets, DON'T try to equip them for the Battledome. Just work on keeping them fed and happy while saving up for when you DO have spare cash.

2. If you want to find some cheap food, I have two suggestions if you can't get it straight from the food shop: Organic red apples; and smoothies. Organic red apples often sell for 40-50 Neopoints, and you get two servings out of it, so that's really only 20-25 Neopoints a serving. Smoothies are an untouched upon reserve. Today I bought three for 19 NP each IN THE MARKETPLACE. There were dozens more for 20 NP. Smoothies are absolutely the answer to any food dilemma.

3. Owning a shop is crucial. Wait until you have about 1000 NP to spend. Open your shop and upgrade it a couple times, then use the remaining NP to stock it. Theme parks aren't as reliable; people only go into the cheapest ones, so you won't make much money as that.

4. Games are also crucial. If you're the intellectual type, Lenny Trivia and Poogle Solitaire can reward you with lots of Neopoints and super rare items. Plus, when you win a round of Cliffhanger, your pet gains a level of intelligence. Also, I can't stress how important Kacheek Seek is in getting Neopoints. It doesn't cost any to play, and you get 23-28 NP each time. You can play with your pet at least 10 times a day, so that's about 250 NP a day. I've heard that Chiazilla and Gormball get you lots of points, but personally, I can't seem to get the hang of either of them. If you're lucky, Scorchy Slots are the answer. I have won multiple map pieces, faeries, and thousands of Neopoints from playing that. Also, check out Dice-A-Roo. You can get items as well as NP from that, but wait until you've got at least 30 NP or so to stop playing that.

5. Sign up with sponsors. That's a couple thousand NP at that :)

6. Don't be greedy. As long as you have a few thousand NP and can feed your pet and keep it happy, you are NOT POOR. Magic items, faeries, Codestones, and the like are luxuries, not necessities! They should be the type of thing you save up for after you're sure you'll have enough to feed your pets for a while.

7. If you search for "Codestone" in the Shop Wizard and just keep reloading the page, you may find one for only a few hundred NP. Very useful :) Also, for some reason, about a week ago I bought about a dozen various Poogle toys for very cheap for a total of about 10,000 NP, but they sold for a total of 16,000 or so. If you've got enough money to do that, go for it. :)

8. Have fun! Remember, it's only a game. Though they're awfully cute, remember the days when *gasp* there was no Internet, let alone NeoPets! NeoPets is meant to be a game, and many people are taking it way too far. Have fun, donate what you can...you really don't need to hoard your money - what, are you saving it for in the long run? Hope those tips helped!
