I am what some of you may call a NeoPets "veteran." I started on February,
and entered the ever-expanding world of Neopia. I have been watching these
articles debating back and forth. I have seen both ends of the money spectrum,
and I loved both. Even being poor.
Now with a comfortable 30,000 NP (about middle class), I will tell you
my story and I hope you can learn from it. I was a normal poor citizen,
having fun with the 13 pets and games that were in Neopia. Stats? What
are stats? Who cares about STATS? After adopting my wonderful Fleye (now
a Buzz) Genga, I decided to explore more and more. I read a message in
the news: The Battledome should be open in about mid April! Back
then, when I got 1,000 Neopoints auctioning a fire scroll, I thought I
was rich.
That's right, 1,000 Neopoints. Later on, with the welcome debut of The
Mystery Island, the ever looming quests (ah, when you could just ask the
faeries kindly...), and the Soup Kitchen. The soup kitchen especially,
my pets were never hungry. Could you poor people imagine what it was like
to be poor back THEN! Anyway, let's go to the fateful day when I saw the
words "an old sea pirate gives you a piece of the long lost treasure map."
I sold it for 10,000 NP. I was ecstatic. My money was going up quite
nicely. Selling two Invisible Paintbrushes for 5,000 each, I was at a
nice 20, 000. Then it happened. The release of the new paintbrush, which
coincided with me getting one in my referrals. A Fire Paintbrush that
I sold for 40,000, the cheapest one in the shops. I was now rich. I never
dreamed of this kind of wealth. But then it happened. PETPETS! When they
were released I needed to get all of them! WHILE THEY WERE STILL EXPENSIVE!
I bought a Greeble for 8,000 NPs!!! It blew my money. The only PetPet
I have left is my Angelpuss, which has been there since the very first
day they were released. :D
Oh well. I was poor again. Oh look, something useless was released called
Codestones. They look cool, I'll buy a lot for 100 Neopoints. Ah, and
this new "Mutando fruit?" They are selling them for 499 Neopoints, but
they must be rare, so I'll but four.
Later... OOO! The Training School opened! Codestone sold for 3,000! Muntando
Fruits at 20,000 NPs! I was rich again. My current riches come from getting
a white wine from an Esophagor quest and trading it for 70,000 NPs.
But anyway, poor people, it WAS hard back then, and it is much easier
today! Why complain when there's the Soup Kitchen? Just buy the stocks
that are down, or do what I did: FORESEE TRENDS! Well, Yadoking's two
cents on the poor rich debate. Thanks for listening.
