Lovely Lennys Transcribed

by cutieco8, with help from her pets

Lovely Lennys. The book about the poor, misunderstood pets with the Wooden Spoon Award. Now, with the help of my three older pets Jeemie, Katreek, and Elottia, I present to you, the transcription on Lovely Lennys.

Foreword
by author Edward L. Lenny

Myself being a Lenny, it's okay of me to think Lennys are the greatest pets in the world. And I thought that, until the weekly statistics page arrived in my mailbox one fine summer's day. I took all my mail, sat in my favorite gold velvet chair, and read through it. "Junk, junk, junk--ooh, what's this?" I ripped open the letter and gasped. "Not-so-congratulations, you've received the Wooden Spoon award," it said bluntly. A teeny wooden spoon fell out. I thought, hmm, a new trophy to put into my trophy case, until, the next day, I learned what a wooden spoon award was.

I walked into the library, where Mrs. Elder, the Lenny Librarian, sat at her desk crying. She confronted me that we Lennys were the least popular pets in the world.

And that inspired me to write this book.

Chapter One: The Lenny

The Lenny is a highly intelligent, curious bird. In fact, it is known to be one of the smartest pets in Neopia. Although there are so few Lennys, three-fifths of the Lenny population is smarter than average. This shows not only that they understand books, their use, and the information inside them, it also shows them that the few who own them are the most caring of all, as they spend their hard-earned Neopoints to spoil their Lenny with books and knowledge.

In time, they can use their highly secret magic powers to battle larger creatures in battle. This magic's scientific name is lennius-magicius, but Lennys just call it Lenny Power!. Although lennius-magicius may sound like a scientific name for a NeoPet, it is not. The reasoning for this name is the fact that the earliest Neopians believed when Lennys used their magic, they because a totally different creature, surrounding themselves with a magic force. Therefore, they felt the need to create a new name.

Although Lennys are not as strong as Grarrls or most other NeoPets, they can use their magic and intelligence to win most battles offered to them, which is very little, due to the fact there are so few of them.

Therefore, Lennys, although small and slender, can be excellent pets, if you know what you're doing.

Chapter Two: Wooden Spoons

The Wooden Spoon Award is not an award. It is a symbol of hate, of being hated. When a NeoPet receives this dreaded award, it shows that there are fewer of this award than any other NeoPet. Although, when a new pet is put up for adoption, it is not as dreaded, because within the first two days the award goes back to the Lenny.

On my wall I have a shelf. On that shelf I have my 25 Wooden Spoons, each one for when my kind received it. It shows that for 25 weeks, Lennys have been hated, or, to put it more gently, Lennys have been less that other NeoPets. It shows that some of the owners of Neopia want mostly cute, strong pets, rather than skinny, smart pets. Now, while most owners will not think this, some obviously do.

A while ago I read an article in the Neopian Times called "Will the Lenny face Extinction?" I hope not. Of course, I am a Lenny. But, I do believe, that sometime between now and Lenny Day, they will be redrawn and/or reshaded.

Wooden Spoons are the worst thing a NeoPet could get. If it stays under that award for long periods of time, people will either adopt more Lennys or abandon the ones that already exist. It all depends on the pet. But as for the Lenny, it's pretty much staying where it has been: less than 100,000; more that 50,000.

Chapter Three: Popular?

Why are Lennys so unpopular? Who knows. Some ideas are that it's ugly, it doesn't fit in with all the other NeoPets, or people would prefer a Kacheek over it. But, I believe, the real reason is the fact it has the Wooden Spoon. People think, "Oh my, Lennys are unpopular? I better get rid of mine!" and abandon their Lennys. And now I quote an unknown Neopian Times writer, "I enjoy being a Lenny. I mean, we're the least popular pet, so that brings more attention to us!"
