The End of the Beginning

Here I am home again in such rags after long
When I left in riches I was out of my mind
This is my home, and this'll be my song
Forever I will from now stay in your arms

I realized that there was no way I could have lived
In the darkness all alone with you so far away
I can see the cruel truth now and how I had fibbed
About how I would survive when I never will

You are where I belong and that's what I know
So long I dreaded with you, that's not true
Because it was really I wanted you I loved you so
That I tore that away and had my vision blinded

The tears that I made you shed I'm sorry for
I promise that I'll be, but you say promises are cheap
So I put my life on this to live and love you forever more
This is my final destiny and what I call a home

No one believed that the land would be destroyed even though it was rumoured everywhere. When Gyka, Nsynca, and Pozialle protested that it could possibly be true, SkarIX, Chippy2000, and Exlund protested back while Yamakarasu just declared that she "had no comments".

"It's all over the city, Exlund!" said Nsynca, "Gosh, can't you see?!"

"But that's only rumours!" said Exlund, "and I hope you know what rumours means, because if you don't, go back to school."

"Well, I can't go back to school here in this dump," said Nsynca.

"Will you get over it and cope with it?" said SkarIX, "this is life and we will deal and face it the hard way if we have too. We can get some really good practical experience from this."

"Maybe too much," muttered Pozialle.

"Nah, it'll be OK," said Chippy2000, "because we are all strong enough pets and know how to battle properly. Besides, we've got all the training we can get."

"I still think we should leave," said Pozialle defiantly.

"Yeah, me too," said Gyka, "and I - I miss my owner."

"I do too," said Nsynca with a sigh.

"That can happen," said SkarIX, "but we will get through this, all right? You just have to believe in yourself."

The problem was, these NeoPets believed in themselves a little too much and before they know it, there came an order from the mayor that the land was to be destroyed and rebuilt. At first, everyone whooped at the "rebuilt" part, but calmed down when they noticed in small prints that it was going to be a government site.

"See, we weren't suppose to be living here," said Nsynca.

"Yes, we were," said Exlund.

There were still arguments, even when the truck came that day to dig up everything. All the NeoPets ferreted out of sight and ran to other places while these seven NeoPets had nowhere to go. It was suggested that they fight the trucks but unfortunate for them, these trucks held the power of counterattack which reflected any attacks back. Not even Yamakarasu could boost through as every one of her own attacks shot back at her lowering her hit points steadily. There wasn't a moment to lose as Pozialle shouted, "Let's go everyone! Get out of here! It's too dangerous!" As the trucks started chasing these unfortunate friends.

The truck was very fact and Yamakarasu was the only one who did get a scratch when she ran while the others got stuck in thorns or the claws of the truck. The trucks were NeoPets-operated so they always let go of these NeoPets and only attacked as a warning. Just then, SkarIX jumped onto the window of the truck and called to the NeoPets inside, "Stop! Please listen!"

The NeoPets inside weren't there for a compromise and didn't listen to SkarIX. Instead, they drove faster and shook SkarIX into a thorn-covered bush. SkarIX was bleeding all over and Pozialle ran towards him fumbling around for healing potions. Then the truck came this way again and just before it hit SkarIX and Pozialle, Yamakarasu took them on her back and ran missing the truck by inches. Breathing heavily, she let the two NeoPets down and they all started running for their life. Gyka didn't understand why the NeoPets were been so cruel as he skipped from tree to tree. The truth was that they didn't know where to choose a home and that the government NeoPets were only doing their job. When the seven friends finally got out of the way into the dusty roads, they were all covered with injuries and they had no money, no food, no nothing. Gyka felt like laughing and crying all at once. The mistakes they made, running away from home and acting like they could take everything when they couldn't. Young and foolish, what were they thinking of. They had nothing left and tried to drag themselves to the nearest town which was at least five miles away. Hungry and with hardly any hit points left, the NeoPets struggled to reach town. When they finally did after a quite a while, there was no money to pay for healing potions and food nor strength to play games to earn money. This was something the NeoPets couldn't stand anymore and so Chippy2000 tried his hardest to earn some Neopoints but he kept losing in the games. And to sign up for a sponsor, there had to a human in sight. There was nothing they could do as they had lost everything. As Pozialle drank some water off the free fountain and started washing himself, the cold water hit him in the face like a hard cold realization. They had left the home they ever had, the real home. Tears came down his face and he sobbed like he never cried before. The other six friends shed tears too and then finally, after resting in the dangerous outside roads for the night, they gained little strength the next day. Still tired and hungry, the NeoPets started begging for money. After a day's begging and at the Money Tree, they got a ripped scarf and 27 Neopoints. At this time, the money and scarf seemed like a fortune to them. They may had riches at home, but outside, even 27 Neopoints was worth more than anything.

"We must go home," said Gyka one day, "even if we have to face the embarrassment and shame, the home where we left is our real home."

The other NeoPets nodded and they started for home. They were still in rags and still felt empty in their stomach even when they found a soup kitchen in the next city. They dragged their way home and when they entered the familiar hills and surroundings, it was like waking up after a terrible nightmare. The dragged themselves onto the road and the people in the city were all gasping. Gyka felt so shameful that he wanted to hide and so did his friends. Tears rolled down his face when he saw his owner and he couldn't say anything when she hugged him tight sobbing. It was certainly a lesson to be taught.
