Ask any typical actor or actress that you meet about
their career, and their standard answer is: "Acting is my passion, my
life. To act you have to put your mind and soul into your character's
body. You have to become that character in the story." Blah, blah, blah.
Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. And so on and so forth.
But then, ask Lisa the Faerie Peophin about how she felt
about her career. And her reply would most probably be, "It's no fun being
at actress, you know. No fun at all." And then she would launch into a
detailed description of all the horrid parts that she got to play. About
how she had to act as a nurse in the hospital, struggling to save an evil
Jetsam's life, about how she had to act as a young student at Neopian
Village School, head over heels in love with her Peophin teacher, about
how she had to act as a very normal Peophin, who was unluckily in love
with another species and turned herself into a Cybunny using a morphing
potion in the end to marry her Cybunny lover. And many other horrid parts.
But Lisa had already won tons of Best Actresses Awards.
In fact, she had won it for every year since she had started her career.
She now had tons of fans. She couldn't have privacy anywhere. Her cabinet
was stacked full with trophies. She was richer than she had ever been.
Lisa was renowned all over the world.
But then came the last straw. Lisa was supposed to act
as a very fat Peophin whose husband had been snatched from their happy
home and brought to somewhere far, far away. That did it. Lisa's cheeks
flamed. She would not act such an embarrassing role. Exercise and get
laughed at all day long just to get her husband home? No way! Where was
the princess part she had always wanted to play? The one with the Prince
Charming in it? "I QUIT!" she yelled, flinging the script onto the floor,
stamping on it. Then she soared away out of the place on her shiny wings.
She decided to take up a job in the Harbour at Mystery
Island. Ah, there was where she would live a quiet and peaceful life,
rowing only a few passengers back and forth at a time. Lovely. She liked
living by the water. The only thing was, now that she was living a quiet
and peaceful life, why was she suddenly feeling so depressed? "I'm happy.
I'm happy," she told herself.
She was wrong. The moment passengers boarded the small,
old-fashioned boat that took them back to Neopia, they suddenly screamed
and jumped up and down and pointed their fingers at her. "AAAAAAH! IT'S
LISA!" they yelled. Some of them just stood there, too stunned to move.
Some even keeled over and collapsed. All of them looked at her with that
adoration in their eyes. Quiet and peaceful life? Guess not.
Lisa didn't like her new job at all. Not one single bit.
She sighed. "Guess I was wrong to select acting as my first career last
time," she said to herself. "Now, no matter whatever job I take up, there's
sure to be crowds of fans around."
Lisa's employer, the Mystery Islander who was in charge
of running the harbour, was extremely pleased with Lisa. He had earned
a great deal because of the sudden increase of visitors to Mystery Island.
All of them wanted to have a go on the boat Lisa was ferrying. Lisa hated
it. No quiet and peaceful life. Not being away from fans. No, this wasn't
her dream job. So she resigned. Her boss was rather disappointed to see
her go.
Quiet and peaceful life. Away from fans. Hmmmmm. What
about... what about working as a servant for someone? Ha, that sounded
really good. It would make her tough. So she worked for a little Poogle
girl, who asked Lisa to help with her homework, bathe her, prepare delicious
snacks for her, etc. Lisa loved the little girl. She was so sweet and
adorable. It was a pleasure working for her. But why again was she suddenly
feeling so depressed? No, I'm happy, she told herself. Very happy.
But as usual there was trouble. Her fans had tracked
her down once again. They came knocking on her new employer's door every
hour of the day. The little Poogle girl's big brother, a Pteri, didn't
like it. He fired poor Lisa.
Lisa wept pitifully on the way home. She felt more depressed
than ever. As she entered the house, she noticed that glass cabinet which
contained all of her trophies. With a lump in her throat, she took them
out one by one and examined them, memories of her acting days coming back
to her. And then she realised why she kept feeling so depressed. How could
she live without acting?? Acting was her greatest talent. She had lived
with acting for so long, how could it be possible for her to leave it
behind? Acting was where she belonged. Acting might not ever be her passion,
but it was her life. There was a major difference between passion and
life.
So she returned to the limelight. The whole of Neopia
rejoiced with that. And from then on, if you ask Lisa the Faerie Peophin,
the Queen of Actresses, about her career, her answer would be: "It's no
fun being an actress. It's not my passion at all, but it is my life. To
act you have to put your mind and soul into your character's body. You
have to become that character in the story." Blah, blah, blah. Et cetera,
et cetera, et cetera. And so on and so forth.
