PetPet Problems

by LoganOwner

“Satari! Satari!” Mumu_Kau yelled, running toward me with a small box on her back. She was a beautiful Cloud Kau, and was flourishing in the Battledome.

“Look what I got today!” she said excitedly. She opened the box and out came… an Angelpuss!

“Mumu…” I said gently, “I’ve told you, we don’t have enough money to keep a PetPet. Why, you have to feed it, play with it, clean up after it… I just don’t think you’re ready for a pet yet.”

“But, but, I’ll do a really good job! I’ll buy her food and toys with my allowance! And if I forget to take care of her for just one day, you can take her back!” Mumu wailed, giving me the puppy eyes.

“Oh, all right” I said, “but I will take her back if you neglect to take care of her. So what are you going to name her?”

“I think I’ll call her… Flurabii!” Mumu_Kau said with a smile.

Mumu loved her new Angelpuss. The only problem was that Flurabii didn’t seem to love Mumu.

“I love you, Flurabii!” Mumu would say, but the Angelpuss would just sit there.

“Why don’t you love me?” she asked one day, and Flurabii hissed and scratched Mumuon her tender nose.

“Sh-she scratched me!” Mumu sobbed into my shoulder.

“Maybe I should take her back to the shop and get a new one…” I said carefully.

“No, please don’t, I can get her to love me, I just need time!” my Kau said, looking downcast.

“All right, it’s up to you. I need to go to the Neopian Pharmacy to get some bandages and antiseptic for your cuts. Do you want to stay here?” I asked.

“Yeah, I’ll try to talk to Flurabii some more…” she mumbled sadly.

In town, I stopped by the bank to withdraw Neopoints. I was able to buy bandages and antiseptic cream and still have Neopoints left over. I decided to go to the bookshop to see if they had any new books for Mumu to read. As I walked in, immediately saw a large sign advertising a new book called Guide to PetPets. Thinking it was too good to be true, I rushed over and flipped through one of the books in the large pile. It had a large section on the Angelpuss! I quickly bought it, using up all my leftover Neopoints in the process. I began the walk home, thinking about how happy Mumu would be.

When I gave my pet her book, she leapt into the air in joy, gave me a huge hug, and sat in the shade of a big tree to read and fend off the summer heat.

As I was cooking dinner on hour later, Mumu came up to me and said, “I know why Flurabii hates me.”

“Why?” I asked her.

“Well, according to the book, Angelpuss’ are very uncaring creatures. It’s their nature! There has never been a known case of an affectionate Angelpuss. But I’m gonna keep trying and own the first loving Angelpuss!” she bravely said.

The next day, Mumu came to me in my room in our cabin.

“What is it?” I mumbled sleepily.

“Flurabii’s gone!” she cried.

I sat up in bed. “What do you mean she’s gone?”

“She’s gone! She’s loose! I’ve looked everywhere, and she’s just not here! What will I do?! She could be anywhere!” Mumu_Kau wailed.

“You need to look for her then. I’ll pack you some food and you can start.” I said.

I got her some bottled water and a ChocoPie Slice, and put them in her backpack. She hugged me and set off into the uncharted wilderness, where Flurabii had most likely gone. She walked and walked, and still couldn’t find any sign of the missing Angelpuss. Just as she was starting to get really tired, she heard a stream flowing nearby and decided to rest and eat there. When she got to it,she found sat down on a large rock and looked around. Her gaze suddenly settled onto the gravel of the stream bank, where she saw a trail of neat little footprints crossing the shallow stream and following a small path on the other side. Forgetting her weariness, she jumped up and plowed across, calling Flurabii’s name. Within one hundred feet, she reached a grassy clearing, and sitting in the middle was none other than Flurabii! Mumu joyfully ran up to her, but Flurabii didn’t even seem to notice her. Instead, her gaze was lifted to the sky, which was getting darker and darker…. Bats covered the sun and flew down swirling around them, until solidifying into a single figure…. With an evil laugh, the Uber Dark Faerie raised her hand and shot a black bolt of magic straight at Flurabii!

Before the black magic could hit her, Mumu leapt in front of it. It hit her in the chest and she tumbled backward, hitting a tree at the edge of the clearing. As she stood up wobbly and shaking, she heard the Uber Dark Faerie cackling evilly. She stood tall, deciding to protect Flurabii till the end. Flurabii was looking at Mumu strangely, as if it was the first time really seeing her. As the evil Faerie raised her arms again, a dark glow pulsing around them ready to finish poor Mumu off, Flurabii suddenly leapt at the Dark Faerie, scratching and hissing with all her might. The Dark Faerie screamed and disappeared, but not before getting in a few blows herself. When the dust cleared, Mumu saw Flurabii lying on the ground. She ran over, and sighed with relief when she saw that her pet was breathing. She was bruised and had one deep cut on her back, but that was the worst of the damage. She placed Flurabii carefully onto her back and started off towards home at a swift walk.

When Mumu arrived home, I was waiting for her outside the house. When I saw that Flurabii was with her, I smiled, but then saw that she was pretty beaten up. I quickly ran inside for some antiseptic and bandages. Mumu helped me clean her up and lay her down in her bed to sleep. Later in the day, she woke up groggily.

“Meow?”she said, and then saw Mumu. She stumbled up and jumped into her lap, purring loudly.

“I…I think this is the first time I’ve ever heard her purr!” exclaimed Mumu_Kau. “I think she finally loves me!” She and Flurabii looked up at the sunset and I could see tears of joy in Mumu’s eyes.

Epilogue: Ever since that fateful beginning, Mumu and Flurabii have been the best of friends. They do everything together, and enjoy camping together in the wilderness. They are still together and always will be. If you should happen to come by our house someday, you should check on them. Most probably, you will find them playing together, forever.
