The Forgotten Royal Pets

*plays trumpet fanfare *

Hear ye, hear ye!

In honor of the day celebrating Meridell's discovery, I have compiled a list of Royal pets I feel are generally overlooked, forgotten and underestimated by the Neopian population. In this article, I have focused on pets that look like they would belong in the medieval land of Meridell, that means no Kikos or Chombies, sorry!

Hopefully this list will bring some light and attention to the pets that need it. Enjoy!

RG Buzz

Clothing set: Gown, gloves and crown with wig.

Blue is a colour that is typical for royal boys, but this nice light shade fits this feminine pet perfectly. The green jewels in her crown match her eyes, and the gown has several warm shades of yellow and orange-brown. I like that although the RG Buzz wears gloves, she does not wear shoes, this gives her a more relaxed, natural look (as much as this can be achieved by a royal pet, in any case) and the costume in general feels less cluttered. You can in fact see her feet/legs peek out from underneath her dress. The original RG Buzz had a long braid, but this new, converted version has a shorter hairdo, though she has retained her cute curls.

Note also the detail of hearts along the front of her dress. Adorable!

RB Buzz

Clothing set: Hat, tunic and trousers.

This prince has a moss green base colour which is quite pleasant and serves as a nice contrast to the yellow details on his tunic and hat. (The hat alone is worth the price Fyora charges for this Paint Brush!) The original RB Buzz had a cape, but even without that this is quite a dashing pet!

I bet lots of folks wanting to use their Fountain Faerie Quest to get the Buzzin avatar has felt disappointed that Royal is not one of the colour choices!

RG Skeith

Clothes: Crown, bodice, skirt, shoes

Not amongst the most popular Neopets species (to put it mildly) I wanted to shed some light on the Royal Skeiths. No, not King Skarl and King Hagan...

I'll admit I've never owned a Skeith, unless you count lab zaps, but when Royal became available for Skeiths it almost made me want one.

The Royal Girl Skeith has a base colour that's all her own, literally. No other Neopet queen or princess can brag about sporting this particular shade. It goes perfectly with her amazing dress, easily my favourite one of all dresses and skirts on this list. The RG Skeith also has the cutest, prettiest crown.

If you want some customising advice, this queen needs a sceptre or staff of some sort to hold in that powerful fist of hers, and the NC Background Wonderland Garden should make her feel right at home!

RB Skeith

Clothes: Crown, jacket, trousers, shoes

In terms of base colour, the Royal Boy Skeith isn't as unique as his female counterpart, but he more than makes up for that in fashion sense!

I love the RB Skeith's clothes; it fits perfectly with his bulky size. I'm pleased by the use of both dark and light colours and how they're neatly balanced against each other. This Skeith is both elegant and powerful.

Can't you just imagine this guy having an eating contest with King Skarl? I sure can!

RG Gnorbu

Clothing set: Crown and dress. (I personally wish the large white collar was removable).

The base colour of this princess is absolutely gorgeous, and in my opinion preferred over the ordinary Purple. I especially like the braid in her mane, it adds style and elegance.

Some might feel that green and purple is an odd mix, but hey, if Jhudora can pull it off... It works very well here, the shades are both dark which suits the regal nature of this Gnorbu. Both the dress and crown are rich in golden details. Many dresses look a bit off on pets that stand on four legs, such as the Gnorbu, but herein lies the beauty of paint brush clothing – they're tailor made to fit the body type of a certain pet.

RB Gnorbu

Clothing set: Crown, jacket, trousers, and cloak. This outfit looks great also with the cloak removed, if you'd like some variation. I like the furlined cloak and how it perfectly matches this Gnorbu's mane. Speaking of the mane, it covers up the front of the jacket, but the jacket is quite detailed so it doesn't take anything away from the overall look.

Although many royal boys have a blue base colour, the Gnorbu is the only one with his particular shade. Note the stylish trousers and gaiters, plus the shoes that look almost comical on the Gnorbu's tiny feet.

I know Gnorbus certainly aren't amongst the most popular Neopet species, but trust me when I say Royal isn't the only colour they look great in. Perhaps you should pay some extra attention to the Gnorbu on your next visit to the Rainbow Pool?

RG Ixi

Clothes: Hat, tunic, gown and choker

This list would not be complete without paying tribute to the Ixi of Meridell!

With a total of four unique removable clothing items, you can combine and customise to your heart's content! (I think she looks best without the tunic, as this allows you to see the choker properly). This beauty also has stunning eyes, no need for contacts here! (The eyes in the picture are the male eyes, just so you know!)

My favourite thing about the RG Ixi is the beautiful base colour and the lock of hair/fur, in fact, the Ixi princess looks quite similar to the Faerie Ixi. With the wonderful assortment of wings available from Unis Clothing shop and the NC Mall you can create a special Faerie look for your Royal Ixi Girl!

RB Ixi

Clothes: Cap, collar, tunic, trousers and shoes. (It also looks great even with the collar and shoes removed).

This Ixi colours, from his clothing to his fur honors both the great land of Meridell and its neighboring kingdom Brightvale, as both blue and red as well as green and yellow are fairly represented.

There are some fine details to catch your eye here, such as the stars on the sleeves of his tunic, the buttons on the side and his belt.

Dressed up in his finest your Royal Boy Ixi will soon be attending the banquet of King Skarl himself!

RG Kau

Clothing set: Hood and wig, ruff (no, that's not a beard!), blouse, skirt and cloak

The Royal Kaus are another pair of pets on this list I feel are not getting the attention they truly deserve. These pets both exist in unconverted versions, but their new looks are just as worthy of your time and consideration!

The base colour of the Royal Girl Kau is pretty special, only the RG Zafara shares this shade. I personally think this is a beautiful Royal pet. I particularly like the hair, even though her braids can't be seen too well. The orange shade matches her yellow fur nicely. There are some lovely shades of green on the blouse, skirt and cloak, serving as another complementary colour for the base.

I like the puffy sleeves on the blouse, and the fact that this queen isn't wearing a long skirt or dress is refreshing. The RG Kau is also one of the few Royal Girls that do not wear a crown or tiara.

RB Kau

Clothing set: Crown, ruff (again, that's not a beard!) shirt, trousers and cape. You can't tell if he is wearing the trousers or not, as they're covered up by the cape, but no Royal of any kind would be caught with their pants down... or off.

Just like some of the other Royals, the Kaus have rather plain, ordinary base colours. But remember, it's the clothes that make the pet!

I like how well the Royal Kau pair match each other, the way they both have green clothes with yellow details, and similar capes.

The ruff of the RB Kau matches the colour of his horns, and the crown is also lined with ruff, which makes sense in my opinion, as I think it would look a bit off if it sat directly on his head.

Many Royal Boys look proud and powerful, certain ones look downright intimidating (like the Grarrl) but the RB Kau radiates kindness and a friendly nature. Who would be scared to approach this guy's throne?

RG Xweetok

Clothing: Crown and dress

Considering how stunningly beautiful the Royal Girl Xweetok is, I'm honestly surprised they aren't more popular. I'm a big fan of this species, and have owned a RG Xwee in the past.

The deep, rich red of the gown is a truly regal colour, albeit a bold choice with the light purple base. There are teal details with a red pattern, and the golden sleeves pick up the shine from the crown, making the outfit complete.

Her crown has a purple wig included to match her mane colour, so be aware of that if you're planning on cross painting! Note also the lovely detail of the blue jewel attached to the crown.

RB Xweetok

Clothing: Crown, shirt and trousers. (The cape, shoes and gloves are not removable).

The base colour of the RB Xweetok is very nice, somewhere between the common Blue and the deep, mysterious Stealthy (which is not available for Xwees yet).

This elegant prince has a furlined cape, plus gloves and boots.

The red and teal of his shirt matches the dress of his female counterpart. Can't you just picture these two lovely pets side by side entering King Skarl's throne room?

RG Uni

Clothes: Hat, garland, coat and tail bow. (Comb, mirror and hoof polish sold separately).

The Royal Girl Uni is a true princess! I like the light pink base colour and the tail bow and garland are both very nice touches that tie the whole costume together and give it an extra regal air. You can even remove the hat and cloak for a fun summer look!

It's easy to imagine this Uni princess strolling about in the gardens of Meridell Castle, stopping by a pond or fountain to admire her reflection, or perhaps attending a tournament, cheering on her favourite Uni knight!

RB Uni

And speaking of Uni Knights...

Clothes: Mask, robe and wing guards.

The male Uni is my favourite Royal Boy of all! Just look at this handsome, brave pet! He radiates courage and pride, you know he would defend Meridell with all his might.

This Uni's mane is completely unique to the Royal Boy, even if you customise yours with different clothing than the ones given from the Paint Brush, you can bet all the other Unis will gaze upon him in admiration – and just a hint of envy.

RG Eyrie

Clothing set: Crown, cape (necklace is not removable and will disappear if you repaint – but why would you ever do that?)

The Royal Girl Eyrie is one of my favourite Royal Girls. I've been a very proud and happy owner of one named Aliwyn since Y10.

The green and yellow theme of her clothing makes me think she belongs in Brightvale rather than Meridell, but I have chosen to include her and the RB Eyrie on this list simply because I feel they deserve more attention and recognition for the beautiful and impressive pets that they are.

Everything is perfect about this Royal Girl. The base colour is stunning, I love the rich deep purple and the lavender of the wings and mane. The original RG Eyrie was wearing a dress (and standing on two legs) so it made perfect sense to change the gown to a cape after the redraws when all Eyries stood on all fours.

The RG Eyrie's costume is simple without too many details, which I personally prefer. The three items are perfectly matched, and I adore the pretty necklace with the little gold heart. The only other Eyrie to wear a necklace is the Pirate.

The crown is a nice change from tiaras and princess hats; this is a proper, proud queen!

RB Eyrie

Clothing set: Crown, coat, trousers (like the RGs necklace, the sash is not removable and will be gone forever if you paint over this colour)

In the cases where both the girl and boy wear crowns, the males crown is larger, and the Eyries is no exception to this. Their crowns are however the most similar to each other compared to other Royals, only a slight difference in size and of course the colour of the gems, but the shape is identical.

Eyries are a fierce and proud species; it's tempting to say the Royal Paint Brush was created with them in mind... *imagines the Royal Girl Uni snorting indignantly*

Similarly to the RB Lupe, this Eyrie king looks like his younger days are behind him. He has an air of wisdom and pride, like he could rival King Hagan himself!

The reddish purple of his coat and trousers echo the base colour of his queen, and I feel a staff or sword would complete the RB Eyrie's look.

Which Royal Pets are your favourites, and which ones do you feel deserve more love and attention? Do you agree with my picks? Feel free to Neomail me with any comments you may have, thank you for reading, and have a grand celebration of Meridell's discovery!
