The Definitive Guide to Brunch in Neopia

by turtling

--------

Ah, yes...brunch. The magical word that makes our ears perk up and our stomachs rumble. When it comes to mealtime, brunch is king. It combines the savor of breakfast food and the fulfillment of an afternoon meal into one comforting, memorable, and delectable course. But how does one do brunch the right way? When it's 11 am on a Sunday and we're feeling oh-so-hungry and ready to eat, we must prepare something extra special to keep our systems running. This is where I come to the rescue - I, an aspiring food writer, have prepared a variety of brunch suggestions to suit the needs of individual Neopets. To all those who recognize the beauty and sanctity of brunch, I present to you: The Definitive Guide to Brunch in Neopia.

The Lazy Neopian's Brunch

Let's face it. Some Sunday mornings, all we want to do is to stay in bed with a good book or curl up on the couch in front of the television set. Not all of us are willing to put in the time and effort in the kitchen in order to prepare a good brunch. Luckily, brunches can be as simple or as complex as we want them to be, and they may turn out just as delicious regardless of preparation time. For the lazy Neopian, I've selected some foods that require minimal effort but yield maximum deliciousness.

Fried Egg on Toast

Easy, simple, and delicious! Frying an egg with some oil in a pan and popping a slice of bread in the toaster is just about as basic as it gets. This is a fundamental component of what I affectionately refer to as the Lazy Brunch.

Cheese Omelette

Now, now, we're all aware that there is a giant omelette in Tyrannia that provides us with delicious beaten egg dishes on a day-to-day basis. I'll bet right now that you have some of these savory freebies hoarded away in your Inventory, ready to eat at a moment's notice. This omelette will add the cheesy goodness to your brunch that satisfies both your stomach and your heart.

Black Tea

The staple to any productive day, your standard tea is very easy to prepare. Just heat up some water, throw that teabag in there, and drink up! It requires minimal effort but reaps all the health benefits.

Granola Parfait

Every brunch needs a sweet component. A granola parfait is perfect for providing sweetness, crunch, and tang. All you need is an appropriate bowl, yogurt, some fruit, and of course, granola. Add the ingredients in layers or just throw them all in there - it's your preference.

The Health Nut's Brunch

Trying to slim down for summer but don't want to sacrifice the wholesome goodness that defines brunch? Don't fret, there are still plenty of brunch options for you. A good brunch can include ample amounts of fruit, vegetables, and whole grains. Both your stomach and your arteries will thank you for choosing such a health-conscious approach to Sunday brunch. It's a great way to kick off your day of rest.

Wheat Kacheek Bread

This is a healthier alternative to the white bread that many of use to make our toast. Whole wheat products provide us with fiber as well as essential B vitamins to keep our hearts healthy and our bodies full of energy. And, they keep us full for a lot longer!

Boiled Egg

Boiling rather than frying saves us the calories that would otherwise come from oil or butter. Eggs, which are probably the most essential aspect of brunch, provide us with healthy fats, vitamins, and the protein that maintains and strengthens our muscles.

Grilled Veggie Bowl

Vegetables go along with just about every meal (except for maybe dessert!). A bowl of nutritious, fibrous, and delicious veggies is the perfect component to the health nut's brunch. They go along just perfectly with bread and eggs.

Organic Bran Carrot Muffin

Although this muffin tastes like a treat, it is low in sugar and made with wholesome ingredients including fresh diced carrots. It is chock-full of fiber and nutrients and, along with the rest of your healthy brunch, is sure to keep you satiated until your next meal.

The Meat-Lover's Brunch

Mmm...meat. Although brunches can easily be made vegetarian or even vegan, some of us simply want to stay clear of that route and go straight to the hearty, savory, meaty components of brunch. Luckily, there are plenty of protein-rich options to compose the perfect Sunday brunch and satisfy that inner Grarrl dwelling in our stomachs.

Bacon Belly Buster

Bacon is arguably one of the greatest tasting foods in Neopia. This bacon sandwich will satisfy your craving for salty, meaty, delectable bacon flavor. If you're like me, you could skip the bread and go straight for the ample layer of crisp bacon strips inside.

Sausages

The sausage, otherwise known as the perfect bundle of meaty goodness. These go perfectly with eggs, bacon, cheese, toast, biscuits, waffles...you get the idea...

Ham and Cheese Crepe

This dish is the epitome of savory. It delivers not only ham, the apple of the meat-lover's eye, but the salty melty goodness of cheese within a thin and tasty crepe. It combines the flavors of brunch that we adore into a neat and convenient package.

Whole Steak and Egg Pizza

Breakfast pizza in itself is a beautiful thing. But what's probably most beautiful about this pizza is the sizzling steak atop the fluffy scrambled eggs that make the salivary glands in any meat lover's mouth work themselves up to a frenzy. As if that isn't enough, there are slices of hard-boiled egg adorning the pizza as well. This completes the brunch that one hopes to dream of.

And, last, but certainly not least...

The Classic Brunch Enthusiast's Brunch

This is your traditional Sunday brunch, but it certainly is a long way from run-of-the-mill or ordinary. This is classic brunching at its best. For food-lovers like me, standard fare is oftentimes the best option there is. There's a reason why it's timeless. Whether eaten at a diner or in the comfort of your own dining room, the classic brunch is a must for the entire family to enjoy together.

French Toast

Traditional French toast consists of bread (in my opinion, cinnamon bread works best) soaked in egg custard and cooked to perfection in a pan. It's a staple of the traditional brunch. Sprinkled with powdered sugar, drizzled with golden maple syrup, and crowned with a pat of butter, this dish is mouthwateringly tasty.

Blueberry Scone

This pastry is filled with fresh fruit and pairs well with jam, coffee, or both. Scones are best straight out of the oven, but store-made ones from the local Bake Shop are still astoundingly appealing.

Plain Bagel

What is more iconic to brunch than the classic bagel? Slather two bagel halves with any flavor cream cheese you like - strawberry, if you have a sweet tooth; lox, if you prefer classic smoked salmon flavor; or vegetable, if you like the extra tiny bits of crunch. Butter or margarine work just as well.

Eggs Benedict

This classic dish is comprised of ham and a poached egg covered in hollandaise sauce atop an English muffin. It's a true classic and a favorite among brunch fans throughout Neopia, as it tastes both luxurious and cozy at the same time. It completes the perfect brunch.

And there you have it. Four different varieties of lunch that have their own unique and delicious properties. Of course, you are at liberty to put your own spin on these suggestions - whether have specific food allergies, dietary restrictions, or something like a particularly discriminative sweet tooth, there are variations upon variations that will suit your needs.
