95 Life Lessons I Learned from Neopets! by actiontal
--------
Trying to go through life, figuring out what you want, or who you want to be is hard. But maybe you already have the answers? The Neopets inflation rate has held steady at 2.31% for the past 21 years. My knowledge, however, has increased by the 95 lessons I’ve learned along the way: 1.) Luck plays a part in life just like game avatars. Even when we don’t want to admit it, all of the skill and knowledge is sometimes not enough to control the results. You can be the best typist and still not get enough red sparky robots to break that glorious 3,600 score. 2.) There are good ways to lose and bad ways to win (looking at you, Sloth Tax trophy). 3.) Improving your average typing speed! No more time to use that outdated two-finger method like your boss. Thanks to Typing Terror, we’re all ready to quickly type our next post on the Neoboards or to our own boss. 4.) Don't be too indecisive because sometimes ghosts will steal all of the donations. 5.) Moderation is key to balancing life. There will always be one more kad refresh or shop restock, it’s important to know when to take a break. 6.) Catacombs bacon is the best bacon, of all the bacon. Plumpy knows, plumpy knows. 7.) Managing money is a great life skill! Buying paint brushes, gallery items, or any other item on Neopets takes time and willpower. Don’t go spending your change too quickly, otherwise you’ll never reach a goal! 8.) Interest rates, thanks to the Neopian Banks. The more I save, the more I make. It’s that easy. 9.) Graphic design- Need I say more? Whether the creation of a new user lookup or guild layout, plenty of Neopians have fallen in love with graphic design thanks to Neopets. 10.) You may be asked to become the mascot of a cult, always decline or bear witness to grave danger. 11.) NC customization introduced me to colour theories and using a palette to its full potential. 12.) How to build a successful business, thanks to Plushie Tycoon. (Total Revenue - Total Expenses = Profit.) 13.) Advertising skills and concise prose never go out of style. It takes hard work to get a recruit into your guild. You learn how to offer Neopian solutions to Neopian problems. 14.) When you get the choice to sit out or dance, dance in a circle with Ghost Meepits. 15.) Get creative with how you get what you want. Struggling to get the exclusive item after opening 20 season capsules in the NeoMall? Offer to trade with another Neopian! There’s always more than one solution to achieving your desired result. 16.) Understanding inflation and deflation will help you make wise purchases. The value of currency changes over time whether it’s a neopoint or a dubloon. 17.) Rejection happens and it’s absolutely OKAY. Did your caption, poem, or article not make it into the competition? That is okay and actually 100% normal! Just keep trying. 18.) All things end in their own time and it makes room for new and exciting things. Even you, Flash. 19.) Learning how and when to make wise investments. Whether it be through the Neopets stock market, acquiring gift box capsules in the Neocash Mall to trade for items later, or keeping your Altador Cup stamp from years ago in your SDB so it can gain value, investing is key to growing your wealth. 20.) Reinvent yourself and you’ll never go out of style. Just like Neopets mobile upgrades, we can refresh ourselves to stay relevant and continue being successful. 21.) You never know when life will hand you a random quest, but it's best to complete it. 22.) Types of economic markets such as monopolies. We’ve all seen someone try to control the price of a certain item on the open market and it’s not cool. 23.) Meri Acres Rubbish Dump reminds you that one pet's trash is another pet's treasure. 24.) Cultures across the world. I’ve learned about countless cultures thanks to the globalization of Neopets through my Neofriends. 25.) The slorgs of life are always sliding past, so continue to watch your step. 26.) There’s always something new to learn. Did you complete your gallery? Now it’s time to master the world of customizations, avatar collection, or restocking. 27.) The sun may always rise in the east, but Neopia is still on an axis and we must abide by the laws of timezones. Thanks to my international Neofriends, I’ve learned to convert time to make sure we’re all online at the same time. 28.) Do Not Pull the Lever. It’s not worth it 99.99% of the time. 29.) Ah, go ahead and pull the lever. It's about the journey, not the destination. 30.) Everyone has different versions of success. You may be yearning to earn that 250th avatar, but your bestie really just needs her Aisha to be painted alien. Both are amazing things to accomplish. 31.) Communication skills are key to creating meaningful and lasting friendships. 32.) Arrive on time and you can buy the high rarity item in the shop, or keep that extra heart in Ice Cream Machine. 33.) The amount of organization and skill it takes to coordinate a gallery is real. 34.) Random events happen when you least expect them. 35.) There will always be new battledome challengers waiting, and you may not always win, but you can try again with the help of some Dewberry Reviver. 36.) Hours of challenge can turn into glorious moments of joy whether you're earning an avatar or promotion. 37.) There's always a lesson to be learned, even when being taught how to glorp by a Gelatinous Non-Cube. 38.) Slow down. Don't rush into things or you may end up getting buzzed by a mystic techo. 39.) The hardest part of a journey is to choose to make it. Sometimes you just have to put one foot in front of the other, but you will eventually Fetch! whatever you’re after. 40.) Always eat your JubJub first thing in the morning. That way you get the hardest thing out of the way first. I once ate 16 JubJubs in a week! 41.) Eliv Thade teaches us everything is a game... a vile, evil, delightful game. 42.) Sometimes you just have to figure out what you're gonna do when fierce peophins binge olives out of tins. 43.) If you have expectations that something lucky isn't going to happen, it isn't going to happen. 44.) Keep your neopoints in the bank where King Skarl can't get to them. 45.) Be generous like the slorg at Shops of Offers. 46.) Not all snowballs are the same. 47.) She who waits for a sign must sit in the dark. She who puts a hand to the door and goes out will find herself in a well-lit place of friends... enough said? That Kiko oracle really knows what's up. 48.) Don't wake up Turmaculus with your best petpet. It'll be the day he eats him. 49.) Practice really does make perfect, a little bit of extreme potato counting every day will soon earn you an avatar! 50.) It's best to stay in style and dress like your Neopets. 51.) Beautiful pets come in all colours and species, even you Skeiths. 52.) Always trust Gooblah the Grarrl. 53.) But also never trust Gooblah the Grarrl. 54.) Always say things cleverly or wisely, people will ponder at all you said and either declare they already knew that, or maybe give you a book to try harder. 55.) Content creation in the digital age (thank you, guild activities). 56.) The trading post has taught you how to barter, and when it might actually be worth accepting a Mega Sandwich for your pile of nerkmids. 57.) The world is big—take time to see it all! Whether it's a Lost Desert or a Haunted Woods. 58.) You can find Love Stories in the most unlikely of places, like Artichoke Hearts. Just say yes! 59.) It's okay if you can't knock the coconut down; some games are just rigged. 60.) Sometimes it rains easy, sometimes it rains mortogs. 61.) Asparagus is expensive. 62.) Pets and their petpets don't have to match. Variety adds spice to life! 63.) Step out of your comfort zone once in a while, even if it means a mutant graveyard, and refreshing there many, many... many times. 64.) Being an officer or guild leader teaches you how to be responsible for your community. Keeping members active and interested, conflict resolution, and how to have fun with a wide variety of friends. 65.) The Money Tree taught us that second-hand stuff can be the best stuff! 66.) Patience is a virtue and it can be learned while waiting for the Wheel of Monotony to wind down. 67.) Waiting for the Snowager to take a catnap, finding my Magma Pool time, or refreshing to feed a kad, has taught me to keep an eye on the time and manage my priorities for the day. 68.) (Igloo) Garage Sales can be a great place to find some really cool stuff on the cheap! 69.) You only lose money in stocks if you sell in the red. 70.) The Trading Post helps us realize it's okay to reject the first offer that comes along. 71.) A Blumaroo once bounced past and said, "Never ever give out your password!" and you better believe I listened to him! 72.) Refreshing has honed the skills required to obtain next-generation consoles while shopping online. 73.) Supply and demand is a lesson you quickly learn when something new is released. "Ooh, Cyberpunk Draik Helmet, all the rage" but when every other Draik owner wants one too, the demand drives the price of fashion up. 74.) Between Food Club and Tyranu Evavu, I've picked up an entire statistics course of knowledge. 75.) Haggling can be a great way to get a bargain, but don't push your luck too much. 76.) Failure is not the end, for we can always restart and try for a new high score. 77.) You can learn something from everyone. With a world as vast as Neopia, there's always a Neopian who can chase Neggs faster than you, dodge ice cream better, or really knows how to play some Mynci Volleyball. But instead of competing against them, sometimes we can compete to learn from each other. 78.) Faerieland Employment Agency teaches us there's always a job waiting for those willing to work. 79.) Don't be afraid to SQUAWK in the wrong place at the wrong time once in a while. You never know when you'll make a friend! 80.) There are many lost shores, so take time to explore them. You never know what you'll discover! 81.) It's never too late to go back and finish a goal, whether it's a new avatar or a new interest goal or a dream pet. 82.) Be curious—don't feel trapped by anything. Wander and explore even the most mundane of things You never know when you'll stumble upon a hidden tower or a magical lost grundo. 83.) Hard work pays off—ask anyone with a stamp avatar! 84.) Find a mentor: Whether it's for the Faerieland Employment Agency or a game you've been trying to get a high score on, you will always find someone who knows more than you and can help give you valuable advice! 85.) Trying to break down your dubloons between Krawk Island Nippers and The Golden Dubloon teaches you how to make change. 86.) Don't put off until tomorrow what can be done today, or else things like Sloth's pop-ups may become too overwhelming! 87.) Embrace who you are—whether you're a chocolate Graarl or a male with an usukigirl paint job. We love you, and it's okay to love yourself. 88.) Don't settle: You got that bronze trophy, why not go for the gold? You slung the minimum amount of slushies, why not go for the maximum? 89.) Learn when to be independent and when to rely on friends. Rohane couldn't defeat all the mobs without a little help from Mipsy and her crew. 90.) Creativity can be expressed in so many ways, just check out the Spotlights. 91.) There's not a better feeling than helping other Neopians reach their goals. 92.) Training every day is a good way to get strong. 93.) Sometimes you can find the absolute best pets in the pound, just waiting for their forever home! 94.) HTML is a prolific programming language and many aspiring web designers started right here on their pet pages. 95.) Consistency leads to results, just like doing your dailies. I’d like to think that you just had some serious knowledge dropped on you with these lessons, but I can already see that look on your face: "Woah, are you me?" you think to yourself. But no, not really. It's just that we’ve all endured the hard knocks of the Battledome or learned our patience from watching the Wheel of Monotony slowly spin. These lessons may have been a reminder of everything you picked up over the years, but I’m hoping you found a few new nuggets of Wisdom that would even impress King Hagan himself. So now that your digital knowledge instils you with some mad real-life skills, tell your friends not to act so shocked when you tell them you learned it all from Neopets and their Neopian Times gazettes.
