A Guide to Garden Gnomes

by spukl1

--------

Hello darlings and thank you for joining me again for Granny Grumbles’ Hoppin’ Hobbies. This past winter, I have spent so much time inside warming my toes with Neopia’s finest knits and drinking a variety of Borovan Teas. As much as I love the hibernation hobbies of wintertime, Neopia is thawing out and spring will be springing in no time. With a little more sun in the sky, and the rising temperatures, I have gathered my tools, pulled on my rubber boots and set off to my garden. While you all know by know how much I love the flowers and vegetables that sprout there, today’s Hoppin’ Hobbies will be focusing on the one thing that never fails to bring a smile to my face: Garden Gnomes. Neopia is blessed to have such a variety of Gnomes in all shapes, colors and sizes. Each one is unique and holds a special place in my heart. I have a not-so-secret hobby of collecting these Neopian Garden Gnomes and my garden is full of them! I want to share my Garden Gnome hobby with all of you, young and old, so here is my guide to gnome recommendations for each kind of Neopian.

For the Classic Neopian : If you consider yourself a classic Neopian, you likely have a Neohome and Neogarden in our capital of Neopia Central. You do not often follow trends, but stick to a tried-and-true style for yourself, your home and your garden. A Garden Gnome may feel a bit quirky for your taste but in Neopia, they are a staple and have been around as long as Chias have roamed Tyrannia. For your tailored, crisp and clean garden, I recommend the Lucky Gnome Slorg . Slorgs are likely roving your garden anyways so this gnome will blend in naturally. The Lucky Slorg Gnome is timeless – cute and green with a characteristic red hat, it will seamlessly compliment your Shrubbery and is a nod to tradition in Neopia.

For the Faerie (or Usuki) Loving Neopian : A Faerie (or Usuki) loving Neopian values all things pink, purple and sparkly. While their garden locations may range from the Neopian Meadows to Faerieland or just about anywhere in between, it is almost certainly filled with string lights, colorful stones and an abundance of Pretty Flowers. The more color the better for this Neopian and new garden accessories is always in style! Of course, my recommendation for the Faerie (or Usuki) Loving Neopian is the iconic Fyora Gnome , new to the stores this year, the Fyora Gnome is right on trend! Plus, it is Neopia’s only Faerie Gnome in existence, the first of its kind but hopefully not the last! The Fyora Gnome sparkles in shades of lavender and rose and would no doubt be the star of the show in a garden full of flowers.

For the Terror Mountain Residents : Terror Mountain residents have a special kind of garden – an ice garden. The snow and ice that fills these gardens are gorgeous in shades of blue, with very few sprouts growing in the hard terrain. The Terror Mountain ice gardens are sleek, shiny and sharp. The homogenous color scheme makes for a gorgeous display, and that is why Terror Mountain residents tend to shy away from the Neopian Garden Gnomes. However, there is a Garden Gnome for every kind of Neopian Garden if you just take a close look at the Garden Centre. My choice for the Terror Mountain residents is to add a Snowager Gnome to their ice gardens. He is a Terror Mountain icon and in gorgeous tones of azure and cobalt, he does not disturb the visually soothing array of ice and snow.

For the New Era Neopian : I may be an old Granny but I keep up with Neopian Times and I know there is a New Era upon us. The New Era Neopians are edgy and cool and their gardens are built to match: no simple shrubs, roses or even water ponds, rather, their gardens are full of succulents, crystals and mushrooms. These New Era Neopians have moved out of the original Neopian towns and have infiltrated places that were much less populated in the earlier years – Kiko Lake, Neovia and Roo Island. New Era Neopians typically think Garden Gnomes are outdated or stale with their matching hats and beards, but Garden Gnomes are more assorted than one might think! For the New Era Neopian, a classic posed Garden Gnome will not do, we can skip the flower pickers, day dreamers and fishing gnomes… the perfect match for the New Era Neopian is the Pouting Ona Gnome . The Pouting Ona Gnome is cheeky indeed, with an angry face, and slumped stance, this gnome is the perfect mix of ironic and vivacious, just like these New Era Neopians!

For the Bookish Neopian : The Bookish Neopian likely dwells in Brightvale, Meridell or Faerieland as they frequently visit the castle libraries. Their gardens are as whimsical as their fiction stories while still being cosy and inviting. With Stately Trees to read under, hammocks and stone benches next to Koi Ponds, the Bookish Neopian gardens are made for relaxing and staying the whole day. The Bookish Neopian have many nooks and crannies in their garden, which make them the perfect environment for an abundance of Garden Gnomes. The textbook Garden Gnome match for a Bookish Neopian is, of course, the Snow Grundo Gnome . The Snow Grundo Gnome is as tranquil as can be, with his nose in his little book, he does not distract or disturb anyone else from their reading but bolsters the already serene atmosphere.

For the Elderly Neopians : Last but not least, the Elderly Neopians (including myself) have a variety of garden types. Elderly Neopians tend to love all the Neopian Garden Gnomes… like I said I have one of each… but I still have a recommendation for any of the Elderly just starting their collection. Elderly Neopian gardens are found in all Neopian boroughs and are places to watch the Petpets roam, areas for their families to gather and a slice of nature to meditate in. There tend to be rows of Primulas, gazebos as well as, a variety of mosaics and statues. Any Neopian Garden Gnome will fit in seamlessly but for the Neopian Grannies there is one that stands out… my recommendation is the Korbat Flower Gnome . The Korbat Flower Gnome is just the cutest little thing, he has the sweetest smile and looks so pleased to have found a flower. This little gnome brings a smile to my face every time I see it and brightens up any peaceful garden. For the Neopian Grandpas I have to recommend the Sleeping Chia Gnome . This Garden Gnome looks so delightful sleeping on a rock especially when there is an Elderly Male Neopet sleeping in the same fashion right beside it. This Chia Gnome is fun to move the gnome around the garden, from the bushes to the flower beds, is always a delight when a Neopian Grandpa stumbles upon it.

Well, it is time to wrap things up. Thank you, my darlings, for taking the time gather around and listen to me gush about my hobby and peak into the world of Neopian Garden Gnomes. From accessorizing your garden, to a dazzling collection they are just the best Neopian item around. After reading my recommendations, you should be able to tell that there is a Neopian Garden Gnome for every kind of Neopian! I certainly hope you found a Gnome that suits your style and garden needs, and consider browsing the Neopian Garden Centre for more gnomes in the future. That is all I have for today for Granny Grumbles’s Hoppin’ Hobbies… until next time. Cheers.
