Top 10 Mutant Neopet Colours by supert_2
--------
If there's one thing we all love, it's new colours. But one colour a lot of Neopians never think about is Mutant. It's not hard to see why; Mutants were created by Dr. Sloth, and no one wants to be associated with him. That, and almost nobody makes clothes for Mutants! But somehow, transmogrification potions are still a hot commodity, costing upwards of 900,000 NP! So if you plan on buying one, you'd better make sure you're getting the species potion that's right for you. And that's where I come in! See, Mutant is a colour I find incredibly interesting, so I figured, "why not rank what species look best mutated?" So here you go, my list of the Top 10 Mutant Neopian Species! 10. Flotsam The Mutant Flotsam is not a complicated beast, just two extra pairs of eyes and some extra dorsal fins, but that's where the beauty of it is. Some might be put off by their strangely-shaped mouths or green drool, but come on, these are Mutants! If there's nothing particularly off-putting about them, they might as well just be painted. Besides, those extra dorsal fins add a certain coolness to the typically-cute species...and speaking of cute, don't you dare try to tell me those six eyes aren't the most adorable things you've ever seen! 9. Vandagyre Halving the number of eyes, we have the Mutant Vandagyre! The most appealing features of the Vandagyre -- their big eyes, small beak, philanges, and tail feathers -- have been distorted in the best ways possible. Perhaps most noticeable after the new third eye is its tentacles. Not many Neopians have tentacles, making the Mutant Vandagyre stand out even more! That and its green/purple/pink colour scheme just SCREAM "Mutant", which is what we love to see in any colour. Imagine if a Burlap Neopian looked like it was made of polyester. That's not what we like to see in our colours. 8. Aisha I'll admit, I'm biased here; I'm a fan of all things Aisha, and their mutant form is no exception. Once again, I get to talk about the eyes...or should I say "eye", since there's one big one in the middle like a Meowclops! Not only that, but it loses two of its ears in favor of extra mouths! And before you ask, yes, they are functional. On the subject of mouths, though, its main one gains a big new set of chompers, and I could not be happier about that! They might take some getting used to, and brushing teeth will be harder, but it's worth it to show off those pearly whites to the world! Chomby fans will also rejoice, as the Mutant Aisha has similar spinal decorations...or are those tongues? Either way, an all-around appealing colour/species combo! 7. Lutari Whoa! Don't be surprised when you see a Mutant Lutari; despite looking like a classic horror monster, these fellas are still just as friendly as any other Lutari! Don't go feeling bad for their newly-hunched back, either; that's just the most comfortable position for them. Their mouths tend to rest in a combination of a snarl and a smile, but rest assured, it means they're happy to meet you. Just be wary of those massive claws if you go in for a hug. Finally, the Mutant Lutari gains an extra tail, allowing it to swim faster and look twice as excited! 6. Kacheek At first glance, you may mistake this Kacheek for a ghost...or you would, if it weren't for the MASSIVE brain! Perhaps if Eliv Thade had been a Mutant, he could have solved that puzzle! Some might think the colossal cranium is frightening or disgusting, but I think it just means there's more Kacheek to love! And, like the Mutant Aisha, the Mutant Kacheek has an overbite that sticks out pretty far. Those teeth may not be as big as a Mutant Aisha's, but ultimately, they lend to the simple beauty and perfection that Kacheeks are known for. Just don't ask them if they have psychic powers, each one has heard that joke far too many times. 5: Acara Where to begin with the Mutant Acara? Perhaps with the obvious; that wispy face and those whispy paws. It looks like a flesh suit built to contain some sort of ancient evil, and I love it. Not to mention those beautifully twisted horns, or that menacing row of spikes going all the way down its spine! With its built-in foreleg armor, a Mutant Acara is always ready for the Battledome. And yet, the inherent cuteness of the Acara isn't lost. Despite every other part of its face looking like it learned to smile from a jack-o-lantern, it still has that cute, pink nose. Remember to ask permission before you boop, though, lest you end up on the wrong side of those hard-hitting toes. And, of course, its chest is somehow even more fluffy than ever! Acaras and their fans, rejoice! Even Dr. Sloth himself can't resist their charm! 4. Gelert Now here's a frightening-looking fellow! One wouldn't expect a Gelert to look all that scary, and yet, here we are. Its usual friendly face is stuck in a permanent scowl, though it most likely doesn't want to hurt you. Its spikes cover much of its body, but don't let that discourage you from giving your Mutant Gelert friend a big hug! You might notice its tail has no fur; it likes it that way. Besides, it screams "science experiment", which is what Mutants are at the end of the day, aren't they? But, let's talk about the Elephante in the room; those horns. Though they're where a Gelert's ears would normally be, don't think for a second that that makes them deaf! Really, the horns are the main reason the Mutant Gelert is so high. They're the perfect combination of creepy and cool! 3. Poogle Remember what I said about Mutant Acaras looking like a malevolent spirit encased in a flesh prison? Multiply that times ten, and you get the Mutant Poogle. If it weren't for those trademark ears, you might not even realize you were looking at a Poogle to begin with! Its horns are so twisted and its face is so distorted, you might have trouble figuring out just what you're looking at...rest assured, that's still a Poogle. You may not want to look between its horns too long, lest you become lost in the elegant dance of the fire within the Mutant Poogle. The rest of its body is heavily armored, as though it were made to be the champion of the Battledome. You may find yourself shaking in fear at the sight of a Mutant Poogle, but at the end of the day, it's still the same Poogle you know and love, and ultimately, that goes for all Mutant Neopians. Despite their looks, they're still Neopians. 2. Kau Kaus are some of the cutest and most docile Neopians out there. Anyone who's ever known a Kau can tell you that. So what happens if you drink a Kau Transmogrification Potion? You get something that kinda looks like a Kau if you squint. It's terrifying, abominable, disgusting, nightmare-inducing...and I mean those words as the highest praise possible. I'm not even sure where to start with this one...let's go with its fur being replaced by scales. And its hind legs being replaced by one long tail. If you're a Hissi, this is probably the Mutant you'd feel most comfortable as. Except maybe a Mutant Hissi. Its forelegs are still intact, though with much longer fur than normal. And, of course, the nose has given way to creepy black tentacles. How this was originally a Kau is one of the universe's greatest mysteries, right alongside why so many people think "Jelly World" exists. 1. Wocky The Mutant Wocky might seem like a strange pick for first place. After all, for the most part, it still looks like a Wocky, right? And the answer is yes, yes it does. It feels like a Mutant in the truest sense of the word; not just some terrifying monster, but an oddity. It looks like a Wocky because it is a Wocky, just built differently. A normal Wocky has a fluffy neck; a Mutant Wocky has a curly neck. A normal Wocky has two fur colours; a Mutant Wocky has four. But subtlety isn't the only thing placing it at number one; though it may seem contradictory to what I said, the Mutant Wocky feels like it was never meant to happen. Why are its ears split down the middle? Why are its eyes completely red? Why is its tongue so long? Ultimately, these are questions that don't need to be answered. There's only one question about Mutant Wockies that should be answered, and that question is a question we should be asking all Neopians: "Can you be my friend?"
