Neohow: To Become a Great Artist

by alienspacefairy

--------

So you want to become an artist? That’s understandable, you’re probably reading this because the title drew you in? Ha-ha... Get it?! *shakes head* Ok never mind... Anyway before you become the next big thing like Pablo De’ Kiko there are a few things you should know about the arts.

(1)Choosing A Medium

There are many techniques that can be used to create your very own master piece. Some Neopets like to work with yellow sculpting clay while others prefer to paint with oils. Depending on what you’re attempting to make will ultimately determine which medium is best for you. Note: A few things to remember before going forward when first trying out new mediums it can be very frustrating and fur-wrenching, but if you really want to become skilled it’ll take tons of practice and remembering those Faerieland Statues weren’t built in one day! To help you come to a decision about this - -I’ve made a list of all the mediums and have given instructions on how to properly use them.

Yellow sculpting clay – 50 NPs

Blue sculpting clay – 50 NPs

Red Sculpting clay- 75 NPs

Green sculpting clay – 75 NPs

How to use: First make sure you are wearing an outfit you don’t care about, and no jewelry on your wrist. Clay sticks to stuff easily and is as time consuming as finding your Magma time to remove. Second have a cup of water next to you. Third dip your paws into the water and with your fingers begin to shift the clay around in your hands to build something. The key is to always have the clay somewhat wet but not so wet you can’t shape it around. Fourth once you’ve settled on a design and are happy with it you’re going to want to put it into your oven to bake for 25-30 minutes. The heat is what holds your clays structure together. After it has baked your work will be finished.

Oil Paints Set – 28,900 NPs

How to use: The first thing you’re going to want to do is have an artist smock on. Next you’ll want to choose between whether you want to paint on an easel or at a table. You’ll obviously put some old Neopian Times down if you go with the latter decision of sitting at a table so your owner doesn’t get mad at you ;). Then place a cup of water by your side for switching colors from your palette. Now let your imagination run wild and hold your paintbrush confidently making strenuous strokes onto your canvas. Once you’re done let the painting dry this may take a few hours to a day.

Bagatelle colouring pencils – 1,025 NPs

Deluxe set of colouring pencils- 110 NPs

How to use: Coloring and drawing takes the least preparation time. All you should really need is a steady paw and a vision. Well, and of course paper will help. Something to keep in mind when drawing or sketching is that you shouldn’t have to tight of a grip on your pencils otherwise they’ll snap in half and become useless. There aren’t any aftercare procedures when it comes to drawing unless you’re planning to paint it, you can hang up your picture on your fridge or walls right away.

(2)Design your perfect environment/ Preparation

In order to get the full on artist experience you’re going to want to design a comfortable environment for you to experiment, play, and practice. You’re going to need a few basic things to make sure you have the least messy but most fun time you can possibly have. Below I have listed a few items that are essential to have to ensure that you’ll achieve your artistic dreams.

Artist smock – 820 NPs

Whenever you are painting the safest and smartest way to avoid tattering your clothes is to wear a smock. This smock also comes with pockets so you can put your paint brushes in it.

Oversized Paint Brush – 150 NC

Sumi Paint Brush – 49,500 NPs

No artist space comes complete without their handy-dandy paint brush. The first paint brush I have listed is for painting perfect backdrops and larger spaces. The second one is for signing your autograph once your painting has dried.

Cup of Water – 790 NPs

If you are painting having a cup of water ready is an absolute must. It beats the hassle of running to the sink a hundred times. Just dip your paint brush in the water each time you want to switch colors.

Artist Studio Background – 6,700 NPs

This is the ultimate background for any artistically talented and creative Neopet. It comes with an easel, stool, paintbrushes, canvas and everything you should find in an art studio.

Neopian Times Issue 3 – 9 NPs

Masking Tape - 670 NPs

This is for the Neopet who has decided to work at a table. All you’ll need is an old issue of the Neopian Times which a new one is in circulation weekly. Also masking tape tends to hold things better in place than any other tape. All you’ll have to do is tape the corners of the paper to cover the entire table and then you have succeeded in making the perfect working environment.

(3) Read up on it

Every great professional has done their research and art is one of those fields that you’ll have to be superb in to truly stand out. In order to learn everything there is to know about art you should do some reading. You can do your research through purchasing the books I’ve listed below.

Sculpting Clay – 1,400 NPs

In this novel is everything you need to know about clay to become the best sculptor.

Famous Paintings- 1,100 NPs

Meegla and Fargon's Not-So-Intergalactic Adventures: Part Three
The Sakhmet scenery rushed past Fargon’s face, turning into a sand-colored blur as he chased the Ogrin thief. Fargon, not possessing half as much agility as Meegla, found himself stubbing his toe on the corners of food stalls, tripping over wandering Gebs, and generally unable to run for long without failing in some manner.
