Avatar Hunting In The Times of Post Flash

by daisyandblackberry

--------

Hey there! So you wanna hunt some avatars, huh, during the transition from flash to beta? Then you’ve come to the right place! It does not matter if you are a diehard avatar hunter or an avvie hunting newbie, this guide is welcome to all! While I am not trying to replace the amazing and detailed guides that already exist, my goal is to focus on the avatars you can still achieve during the beta transition! So stop twiddling your thumbs and let’s go!

     Items

This can be one of the easier categories to obtain avatars in general, but especially during the beta transition so I definitely recommend starting here. There are very helpful people in the avatars neoboard who lend items to gain all kinds of avvies like the 50 unique usuki items, and some rarer items like the Queen Fyora doll, MSPP plushie, and super attack pea, among others.

Not all item avatars have to be relied on from lending programs. Plenty need to be items you have in your inventory while visiting a specific page (like a gnome while viewing the garden centre, an icy snowflake when the weather is blizzardy on Terror Mountain, etc.) Others you have to buy from specific shops, like a chocolate with a rarity of 90 or above from the chocolate factory (it will either cost 5000 NP or 10000 NP!), any mote with a rarity of 70 or above from the Brightvale Motery, and anything from Tarla’s shop of mystery and anything from the Hidden Tower.

There are also the stamp collections. These can cost a pretty neopoint when you get higher up in the collecting as these contain very rare, discontinued, or just generally expensive items. I suggest focusing on one specific stamp collection page at a time, but it is ultimately up to you!

     Pets/Petpets

Certain painted pets award avatars if you own them and other pets grant an avvie if you feed them a specific food. Fear not if your account is already home to the maximum amount of pets currently! Take a tour to the avatar neoboards and find some helpful Neopians with lending programs. You may need to temporarily shuffle around your pets for this, but this is typically the easiest way to gain pet based avatars instead of trying to create and paint to own these pets.

For the petpet avatars, just make sure one of your pets is currently friendless, as you’ll have to attach to your pet and view their lookup after a certain number of days.

     Battledome

Thankfully, the battledome is still operational during the beta transition. There are quite a few avatars you can gain here.

Every two weeks you can participate in the Battleground of the Obelisk skirmishes in the battledome. There are six teams to choose from: Seekers, Sway, Awakened, Brute Squad, the Order of the Red Erisim, and Thieves Guild. Every other week when new battles open, three teams will be pitted against each other. You simply have to choose a team, fight at least 10 battles that week against the opponents, and check at the end of the week to see if your team won. The silver lining is that if you do not win the avatar, you at least gain a participation prize.

Other battledome avatars are pet related, such as you need to win a fight with a particular pet like a Lupe, Jetsam, or Darigan Tonu. Make sure to check out the avatar neoboards for any pet lending needs. You may also luck out and find a specific pet you need in the pound.

Additional battledome avatars must be obtained when you have to win a fight against specific opponents like the Space Faerie, Ghost Lupe, or Black Pteri. There are some great guides out there for obtaining battledome opponents if you do not already have them in your opponent gallery. The last available battledome avatar is completely random and still eludes me: being blessed by the battle faerie randomly when you win a 1-player fight in the Battledome.

     Games

We all know and bemoan that there are few games available post Flash, but fret not! There are still plenty of game-related avatars you can obtain during the beta transition.

Godori - Win 250 hands in the same calendar month

Double or nothing - Collect your winnings when you reach 320 NP.

Kiss the mortog - Two available avvies here. One for correctly choosing four Mortogs in a row and then quitting to collect the 5,900 NP and the second for being in the top 50 on the high score table.

Cheese roller - Random when you cross the finish line in 60 seconds or less

Sewage Surfer - Beat level 49 and quit on level 50

Kacheek Seek - Random when you win a game

Grarrl Keno - Randomly awarded when playing. It has been found to be awarded most often when 4 or more numbers are matched.

     Gormball - win a game

Faerie Crossword - successfully complete the daily crossword puzzle

Poogle Racing - Place a bet and have your poogle win

     Dice-A-Roo - Win the jackpot

Cliffhanger - simply lose a game

Shapeshifter - Beat level 5 and click the option to start level 6, then view the main page.

Tyranu Evavu - Get at least 15 correct guesses in a row

Cellblock - Play 300 games total. They can be wins, losses, or draws.

Plushie Tycoon - Win a game by having more than 50,000 NP on hand after the month is over.

Cheat - Catch Capara cheating in the first round

Negg Cave puzzle - Awarded randomly after completing the puzzle

Coconut Shy - some savvy neoplayers post the non-flash link to play this in the neoboards. You have to knock over a coconut and you get 20 tries a day at 100 NP per try.

Neoquest I & Neoquest II - If you’ve stayed away from the Neoquest games until now, do not be afraid to jump in! There are amazing and detailed guides around to help you navigate these games. Granted, levelling up in NQ can be tedious, but you can earn THREE avatars from NQII and one in NQII. Plus, completing either of these games automatically earns you a trophy. Bonus!

Include As Part of Your Dailies

Buried Treasure - Random when winning a prize (including booby prize)

Forgotten shore - Random when collecting your daily prize. Need to have all 9 map pieces first!

Spin the wheels - Wheels of Extravagance (Land on blank spot), Wheel of Misfortune (random, Wheel of Knowledge (Land on the 8-pointed star), Wheel of Excitement (land on 20,000), Wheel of Monotony(Land on the ?), Wheel of Mediocrity (Land on the 4000 NP)

Stock market - buy over 1 million NP worth of stocks and view your portfolio

King Hagan - Give him an A+ worthy piece of wisdom

King Skarl - Two available avvies here. One for making him laugh at the joke "What do you do if *blank* fierce Peophins *blank* has eaten too much *blank* tin of olives?" (answer can be absolutely anything), and also when he hates your joke and you get thrown out of the castle.

Apple bobbing - Randomly awarded when you win an imposter apple

The Discarded Magical Blue Grundo Plushie of Prosperity - Random when collecting a daily prize

Symol Hole - random when diving in for a prize

Scratchcards - Win prizes at Terror Mountain, Deserted Fairground, and

Pick Your Own - Collect any 6 items that are not a Pile of Dung

Pet Lab Ray & Petpet Lab Ray - must have all 9 map pieces for each and then awarded when your pet changes species or your petpet gets zapped to soot

Deserted Tomb - Random when you win an item

Underwater Fishing Cavern - Catch a Titanic Giant Squid

Lever of Doom - Random when having 100 NP stolen

Snowager - Random when getting blasted. Cannot be obtained during December when the Snowager sleeps all the time!

Island Mystic - Have a fortune with the word Kyrii in it

Turmaculus - have a delicious petpet that Turmy gobbles up. Do not take a favourite or beloved petpet because you cannot get it back!

     Quests

Brain tree - Be in the top 50 high score table. Feed the esophagor twice to answer the Brain Tree’s questions!

     Illusen - Complete level 20

     Jhudora - Complete level 20

Edna the witch - Randomly awarded on quests that ask for 3 items (so you do not even have to bother with quests that ask for 1 or 2 items!)

As you can see there are plenty of avatars for you to hunt down during the beta transition, so make the most of this time and rack up those shiny new avatars! You might even find yourself in the top 50 high score table for avatar collectors and snag a shiny new trophy while you are at it!

     Happy avatar hunting everyone!
