Caring for Gruslens

by alienigenosidad

--------

Some Petpets might need constant grooming, others might like wrestling at the Petpet Arena, some others might even require you to never turn off the lights at night; but have you ever considered what it takes to fully care for a Gruslen? More importantly, why is it ever so complicated to do so? These cute, tusked tiger-like Petpets are originally from Tyrannia, and though they might look like the kind of Petpet you would kiss their belly on a cuddling noon, they can be extremely harmful when angered.

Easily distinguished by their sharp tripes and long tusks, Gruslens were discovered in Tyrannia back in Y3 (2001) – being recognized by their threatening anger, their hesitation to trust Neopets and the many books regarding how to care for their tusks. It’s safe to say that since their first appearance, they have become one of the most untamable Petpets around Neopia. Although not the best resume, we still can’t get enough of these little fellas, and we know that neither can you.

This guide will help you with the best ways to take care of your Gruslen: how to keep them happy, groomed and always by your side! (Fear not – we’ve been through their anger throughout the making of this guide, so these are guaranteed tips to success)

     Gruslen Bean Bag

The best way to earn your Gruslen’s comfort is to give them a nice and comfy place to be around. These paw-shaped bean bags are incredibly soft and squishy, becoming the best choice for all the stretching your furry buddy will ever require. Now, Gruslen’s aren’t self-centred at all, but having Gruslen-themed furniture around your place will make them feel like they’re loved there!

     Gruslen Grooming (Book)

Claws are a thing… but tusks!? A Gruslen has it all. You can’t prevent your Gruslen from jump-scaring to a sudden noise, or from feeling threatened by that new trench coat you bought at the Uni Clothing Shop – but you can prevent severe damage on yourself from it! A Gruslen’s claws must be trimmed in a very specific way (and not too deep! We’re being cautious here, but they’re still little tigerlike Petpets), while their tusks need to be polished at least once a week. This constant care will make your friendship with your Gruslen grow bigger with the passing of time.

     Gruslens Galore (Book)

Gruslens can get homesick, especially when they don’t have their kin around anymore. The book “Gruslens Galore” not only sports pictures from the last Tyrannia’s Gruslen show, but also from many other Gruslens from previous shows! Rest assured, your Gruslen will love to watch the pictures on and on until they’re ready for bedtime.

     Chestnut Shampoo

Don’t fall for any misconceptions or rumours when it comes to grooming your Petpet – Gruslens love bath time! They will totally love for you to help them out, too, as they can’t do much for themselves with such tusks in their way. Oddly enough for a Tyrannian, Gruslens seem incredibly relaxed by earthly and nutty smells, so this shampoo is your best choice. Don’t forget your Tyrannian Comb – scratches are a must!

     Cedar Filled Petpet Bed

You can’t really expect your Gruslen to just sleep on the floor. Your Petpet needs the comfiest of beds for your new best friend – and this Cedar filled bed will not disappoint. "Why cedar?" you may be wondering. There’s one logical explanation for this: Gruslens, as Tyrannian Petpets, are not quite used to the fluffiest of pillows, if you know what I mean. Their territory would often be jungles where tall grass and trees would protect them from outsiders. A cedar filled bed will give them that jungle-like feeling while getting a good night’s sleep.

     Meat Fest Omelette

When munchie time comes, you might not know what would be the best treat for your Gruslen, and this is why we are here. Gruslens are carnivore Petpets, so don’t try to give them a plant-based diet, as they’ll eventually start looking at you funny, if you know what I mean. Gruslen’s favourite treats are Tyrannian Omelettes, and what better place to find them (and grab them for free!) at the Giant Omelette located in - not other than Tyrannia itself.

     Meaty Treat Pasty

Has your Gruslen been behaving their best? Do you want to teach them a new trick? This is the treat for them! As meat lovers, they will be fascinated with this exquisite meat-filled pasty, and they will be bloated for the rest of the day. No Petpet can wiggle their tail faster than a Gruslen who’s about to be given one of these – pinky promise.

     Green Tiered Scratching Post

Let us not forget that, although we have talked claw-trimming before, our Gruslens are still tiger-like fellas who bare their own scratching needs. Besides, you really wouldn’t want your expensive NeoHome furniture to be your Gruslen’s scratching post, would you? Even though you must take care of your Petpet’s claws, Gruslens can’t help themselves to do the same, and will be forever grateful that you give them this special toy made for it.

     Just add Color!

Gruslens love colourful things, but more importantly – they love the attention they get when they’re painted with a different colour! (Well, perhaps not exactly grey but… you get the point). All the way down to the Rainbow Pool you’ll find the Petpet Puddle, the only magical place in Neopia where you can paint your Petpets! Gruslens can be painted in 18 different colours, alongside their original colour that can be obtained with a Red Petpet Paintbrush; these tigers can go from Royal to Island and even Maraquan! But they can never go wrong with your Neopet. So if you want your Gruslen to match your Faerie Shoyru, just get them a Faerie Petpet Paintbrush and you will have a Faerie Gruslen. Absolutely gorgeous!

And that concludes our list of the best items to care for your Gruslen. Although they’re not the face of this very newspaper, or have their own Petpet boarding house, these fellas strike a heart-melting stare at you once and you’re on for a treat of the cutest Tyrannian Petpet in Neopets. Yes, there’s a lot of book-reading to do, but hey, maybe one day you’ll write your very own Gruslen book!
