Tonu Day: Hooray!

     First, taking your pet to the ole’ archives and researching famous Tonu’s throughout history is a great way to add an educational element to Tonu Day. Here are a few noteworthy Tonu’s:

     General Dacon is the Sakhmet City’s commander directly reporting to Princess Amira. You might see some of the weapons he uses to protect the Lost Desert based defense of armed forces in the Sakhmet Battle Supplies. His famous sword “Blaze” was a key weapon that helped him overcome the coup and keep Princess Amira safe when the evil minion’s of Jazan invaded. The fierce Shadow Tonu is definitely a force to be reckoned with and a stand-up, loyal fellow to boot.

     Professor Hugo Fairweather is also a noteworthy mention when discussing famous Tonu’s. Along with his daughter Lilian, they are doing important work in archaeology and botany- even discovering a mysterious island (“Lost Isle”) with potentially dangerous, large petpetpets and planning another expedition soon. For visual learners, have your pets check out the Full Screen Backgrounds under ‘tonu’- they might just be surprised at how big the petpetpet’s are that the professor discovered. These are definitely no mootix! The friendly Tonu even wrote an informal and quite enjoyable book called Professor Hugo Fairweathers Guide to Petpetpets.

     Guildeford is the suave and well-dressed host of the Style Showdown circa 2010. After many elite appearances in all of Neopia’s most stylist events, he was hands-down chosen to represent the fashionista’s of Neopia. He had humble beginnings as a bellhop, but quickly put those Tonu smarts to the grindstone with the Neopian Stock Market. He quickly climbed up the social ladder and became the quite prominent and impressive fellow he is today.

     Not unknown to the vast Neocash trading world is the brilliant alchemist Loic. He turns amazing antiques and rare Neocash items into fantastical coloured wonders. With a strong recyling background and a love for pizzazz, the rainbow Tonu really has a flair for fashion as he works day after day in the Dyeworks alcove of the Neocash mall.

     Deep in the Moltara Caves is the Magma Pool and around it- the fearsome Magma Pool guard! The guard only allows those Neopians with insider Moltara knowledge into the pool and only at specific times. He is a very complex and fierce fellow, but struggles with sleeping! He only dozes off for about 10 minutes a day. Somebody get this guy a Fire pillow (or maybe a Snow pillow?!)!

     The Wheel of Extravagance red guardian all decked out in Qasala’s best stands proudly and sternly around the pricey wheel. The wheel is a tricky place to find in Qasala, tucked into a decorated Qasala tower not too far from the popular Mystical Surroundings shop. He is known to turn even the wealthiest Neopians away after one spin of his hefty and pricey wheel, but there are also a lot of amazing prizes. Just by looking at his affluently decorated character, you can tell that the odds of the wheel might not be ever in your favour….

     Every Altador cup would know summer’s up and coming left forward Wila Benne from the Tyrannian team! With style and grace unlike most Tonu’s, Benne’s charge move is unrivalled among players in the yooyuball cup. She’s been a strong team player for 14 years now.

     After reading up on a few of Neopia’s most famous Tonu’s, you and your pet could work on restocking a few Tonu items from the various shops around Neopia. A few of Moony’s favourite Tonu restocks are the Magical Blue Tonu Plushie in the Plushie shop, the Sugar Tonu Skull in the Chocolate Shop (while also getting the Chocolate! Avatar!!), the Polkadot Tonu Morphing Potion in the Magic Shop and finally the Tonu Super Hero Pyjama Mask (because honestly who WOULDN’T want to wear this!).

     After restocking or enjoying a few of your new Tonu themed purchases, why not also read up on your favourite Tonu subject matter at the local library? Ask your local Zafara librarian for a few suggestions of what they carry. My stealthy Lupe, Moony absolutely loves The History of Tonu Day, Tonu Comic Annual and the Mischievous Mutant Tonu. He did fall asleep during Tonu Tusk Polishing, so steer away from that snoozefest volume.

     After all these activities, your pet is sure to work up a hefty Tonu-sized appetite. In good practice with Tonu day- make sure to avoid most Neopian fruits- especially the negg!! Tonu’s actually come down with a terrible ailment and need to take a trip to the hospital if negg based products are ingested. No need to spend the day in the hospital and pharmacy- there are too many exciting things to do (and eat!) today. To take your celebration to the next level, check out the Mega Tonu Day Burger (skip the Large Tonu Day Burger- the mega is where it is AT) with some Tonu Tonic Water and finish the meal off with a Tonu Sorbet. There is just nothing like indulging in a cute little Tonu wafer nose with heaps of whipped cream after a big burger & tonic.

     Lastly, hunt for a few of the Tonu themed secret avatars on the site or play a few rounds of Gourmet Bowls with Mr. Grumps.
