A Very Merry Faerie Pteri

by blackcairn

--------

If you are looking for tongue twisters, you are out of luck. As many people don’t know, Pteri is officially pronounced ter-ree. Since many people pronounce it tair-ree, I’ll just play along.

If you were looking for an article on how to make your Faerie Pteri very merry, then look no further, but do continue reading. With the activation of the Faerie Pteri avatar, you need your Pteri in tip-top shape for public appearances. Here you will find information on grooming and feeding. Eventually, you’ll have the most beautiful Faerie Pteri on the block, unless you live on my block.

To Preen or not to Preen: That is Never the Question

The most important thing to remember is that keeping your Faerie Pteri well-groomed will keep it happy. After all, a spotless Pteri is a merry Pteri. (They don’t prefer being painted Spotted or Speckled.)

As you may well know, a Pteri, or any other bird for that matter, does not need a bath; it can preen itself. If you don’t know what that is, then you should get to know your Pteri better. However, the tail needs special care; it is the most important physical feature of a Faerie Pteri. In a flock of Faerie Pteri, social hierarchy is determined by the brilliance and length of the tail feathers. If your Pteri’s tail does get dirty, sticky, icky, or into any other undesirable condition, soak it in a tub of warm water and wash with Rain Water Shampoo. Your Pteri is guaranteed to feel much better once a drop of Rain Water Shampoo touches the tail.

Perches are ideal for keeping your Pteri’s tail from touching the ground if your Pteri sleeps indoors. Since there is a serious lack of perches in Neopia, you will have to improvise. You can:

a) start growing trees inside your neohome. This is a very costly and messy thing to do. Trees need sunlight to grow strong and healthy. Transparashield rooms can let sunlight through but they are 14,500 NP per room, and that only works if you have no other rooms on top of it. You can also install skylights in your existing rooms, but those do not exist, so I have no idea what they are. Once you do get a tree growing, however, you’ll have to clean up the leaves, rocks, cotton candy, ice cream, or whatever tree you have your Pteri sleeping in.

b) grow a branch of a tree from a neogarden into your neohome through a window or any other means you please. This is not as costly, but just as messy as the previous solution.

c) have your Pteri sleep on something else. There is nothing wrong with a Pteri sleeping on furniture. If you really want to spoil your Pteri, buy it a Tyrannian Fur Bed. They are partial to Tyrannian furniture.

d) make your own perch. How hard can it be to make a vertical stick for your Pteri to perch upon? It isn’t as easy as you may think it is. Firstly, you need to find a material that your Pteri likes. Does it prefer something soft like a cloud or hard like stone? Secondly, you need to find the perfect height for your Pteri. Last of all, it needs to be sturdy.

That takes care of tail care.

An Apple A Day, With a Mootix Inside

Pteris love Tyrannian omelettes. That is a given, but each Pteri has its own favorite omelette. In addition to Omelettes, there are other foods that are good for your Pteri including the Woo Woo Grub and of course, the Pteri Seed Cake.

Omelettes cover everything needed in a Pteri’s diet, as there are various types of Omelettes from the regular Plain Omelette to the more extravagant Ugga Melon and Little Fishy Omelettes. However, tomatoes are not good for Pteris, and there are a few omelettes that do contain tomatoes, including the Veggie Delight Omelette.

Here is a list of the rarer omelettes:

Ugga Melon Omelette - Full of acidic goodness, this omelette still has the full tang (and hair) of the notorious ugga melon, which is ten times more sour than the sour melon.

Tangy Tigersquash Omelette - This not-so-tangy alternative to the Ugga Melon Omelette may not give your Pteri the ability to roar as loud as a tiger, but it will be great for its singing voice.

Spicy Red Pepper Omelette - For those adventurous Pteris, there is the Spicy Red Pepper Omelette. This will greatly enhance the color of its feathers, but watch out. If your Pteri is allergic, it is best to avoid feeding this to your Pteri.

Meat Feast Omelette - Competing with Grarrls and Skeiths for this omelette will be difficult. You are lucky if you can get away with a full omelette with all of your appendages where they should be.

Little Fishy Omelette - If you Pteri has predilection for anchovies, the Little Fishy Omelette is the Omelette for you. It’s covered with little fish and great for digestion.

Hot Tyrannian Pepper Omelette - If the Spicy Pepper Omelette is not enough for your Pteri, this Hot Tyrannian Pepper Omelette should do the trick. It’s made from the hottest pepper in Tyrannia. If that’s still not hot enough, blend some Carnapeppers, Cornupeppers, Globlins, Green Scorchipeppers, Molten Hot Chillies, and Queela Fruits and serve on top of the omelette as sauce. Although spicy foods may give your Pteri’s feathers more of a fiery hue, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

Honey Blossom Omelette - The Honey Blossom Omelette will satisfy any Pteri’s sweet tooth or your money back. Well, the omelettes are free, so too bad. This is a great source of energy, especially for those long flights.

Fresh Fruit Surprise Omelette - No one really knows what’s in them. That’s why it’s called a surprise. All that can be said about this omelette is that it has a fresh, fruity taste.

Veggie Delight Omelette - There’s nothing particularly wrong with this omelette. It just has tomatoes on it.

Tomato Omelettes - There are three omelettes that explicitly say that there are tomatoes in them: them Tomato Omelette, Tomato and Pepper Omelette, and the Magical Tomato and Pepper Omelette. They’re super delicious, super cool, and super rare.

Woo Woo Grub, Ha Ha Grub and various other grubs are another great source of nutrients for your Pteri. They can provide much of the protein in your Pteri’s diet. If your Pteri is being extra good, you may want to skip the grub and spring for an expensive Pteri delicacy, the Mootix.

Take good care of your Pteri and it may grow stronger than before you picked up this issue of the Neopian Times. And don’t forget to let your Pteri out of the house for exercise!
