How to Acquire Trophies

by marlee90

--------

So you’ve been getting to know your way around Neopia, and something shiny has caught your eye. Yup, it’s those trophies some of the most accomplished Neopians have in their cabinets. Wouldn’t it be nice to have some spiffy looking trophies for yourself? Here are a few tips on how to acquire those elusive awards.

- Choosing a Trophy -

There are tons of trophies out there, all awarding many different skills. If you love to draw / paint, possibly the Random Contest or Beauty Contest would be perfect for you! If you are crazy about writing, consider writing some short stories for The Neopian Times. If you’ve got a hilarious sense of humor, enter the Caption Competition or submit some original comics. All of these can be found with a little searching around Neopia. Choose something that interests you or fits your style, and go for it! The possibilities are almost endless! For now, we’ll focus on getting those Gameroom Trophies.

- Research -

Yes, you heard me, research! If you want to master a game and receive the best score possible, you must know your stuff! One way to do this is to really study each level, or the game itself, and develop a plan as to how you’re going to achieve that high score. Or, you can do it with a little help. There are some awesome game guides out there, and one directory that is extremely helpful is the Petpage of My_First_Little_Pony. Garmfay has taken the time to get all these great guides in one spot, and you should take advantage of that! Select a game you already enjoy, read the guide, and then head to the next tip.

- Practice! -

Practice makes perfect! Well, maybe not perfect, but you will definitely improve over time with some hard work! Practice, practice, and practice. It may sound cheesy, but most of the time, unless you’re freakishly good, you must practice. You will need to become very adept at the game. It may get frustrating, working at one game over and over, but in the long run, it will pay off. Sometimes it's good to take a break, cool off, and then head back in.

- Strategy on Sending Scores -

So you’ve mastered the game, and now you can achieve that trophy-worthy score fairly easily. Now all you’ve got to do is send that score in a strategic way in order to better your odds at a trophy! At the beginning of each month, the scores are all reset and trophies are ready to be won. If you can muster up some strength, it’s best to stay up (or wake up extremely early!) and send that high score before 3:45 NST. Why 3:45 you ask? This is because most scores will need to be reviewed, and the trophies are handed out somewhere near this time. The time used to be 4:45, but Daylight Savings Time isn’t foreign in Neopia, apparently. Some games score a little differently, but for the most part, this is the normal system.

- “Easy” Trophies -

I call these next trophies the “Easy” trophies just because you are not competing with thousands of other Neopians, but with a computer. For the games of Snow Wars, Cheat, Cellblock, and a few others, you compete against the computer for your awards. These awards can rank from a Runner-Up Medal to a sparkling Gold Trophy! Now, these trophies can prove to be a real back-breaker, so don’t take the title of “Easy” too literally. The computers don’t want to just give these trophies away; they want you to work for ’em! Another difference with these trophies is that the games can be resumed at any time, which is nice if you have a busy schedule. Also, you don’t have to worry about when you complete the game or send the scores either.

- Better Than You! Contest -

Ahh, the Better Than You trophy. Every week a new Neopian challenger comes forth and tries to prove that they’re Better Than You! Arrogant bunch, aren’t they. The challenger will have a set score at a certain game, and you must beat this score. It doesn’t matter if you blow it out of the water, or if you just barely pass their score, you still get your trophy! There is a catch, though; only a certain amount of trophies are given out for each competition, so you must work fast! This one can either be really easy, or extremely tough, depending on the game of the week and your ability at the current game. Don’t get discouraged; if you aren’t so great at this week’s game, there is always another one coming up!

- Mystery Pic and Lenny Conundrum –

Now these two trophies are really a test of your knowledge of Neopia. In Mystery Pic, a very, and I mean very, small picture is chosen and you must correctly guess what the larger picture is. It can range from Neogreetings to Game icons; it really is a broad spectrum! Hopefully one pic will just come along and you’ll know it, but you could always go and look through thousands of images and hope you find the right one. As for Lenny Conundrum, it is a very complex question that is given weekly, and you must find the correct answer. This one usually requires you to stop what you’re doing and really get your brain working as to how to figure what the answer is. Some helpful Neopians can usually be found on the Neoboards, but no cheating! Giving out the answer is against the rules; so don’t be looking for an easy way out. These two can just take time, but it is oh so gratifying when you answer them correctly and you receive a Neomail congratulating you!

- Happy Hunting -

Now that you’ve armed yourself with a plan, good luck on getting those trophies! Remember to stick with it and don’t give up. Pretty soon you’ll be dusting out that cabinet and filling it up with all kinds of shiny objects!
