Everyone has a dark side to them; and today is the day to unleash that power and show the world how depressing you can truly be! It’s really difficult in today’s world to be happy and cheerful every single day – after all life isn’t really easy – so take your chance today and be grey!

But it’s just not your attitude that has to be grey, oh dear me, no! It’s about showing your family and friends that you support Grey Day in every aspect of your life. But how, you may ask? Well fortunately for you, this is the Complete Guide to Being Grey!

Step 1: Your Emotions

This is your key to show how you can truly be grey. If you don’t feel grey, you won’t be grey. Understand? If it’s difficult for you to show outward emotions, try pinching yourself extremely hard so tears will start running down your cheeks. And while you do that, think of a really tough time in your life, such as the sight of the Pant Devil running off with your newly-acquired Pirate Paint Brush. By now you should be in full, uncontrollable sobs.

But as a half-baked cake wouldn’t win first prize at a baking competition, a half-baked attitude won’t persuade anyone that you need serious help. To also prove to others, and yourself, that you’re grey, try using depressing vocabulary. Emo, depressed, grey, sad, and hopeless are some great examples.

Now should have acquired that inner-depressed state. Good for you! Don’t pat yourself on the back; that would just ruin everything. But there are more things for you to do to reach your gloomiest self.

Location, Location, Location

No one is going to believe you’re depressed if you’re basking in the sun on the shores of Altador. (Not that there would be much sun on Grey Day anyhow...) So you must find that perfect corner for you to mope and do your crying in. But it’s easier said than done.

As this is a world-wide mopey-day, (‘holiday’ just sounds too cheerful), many of the good spots are already taken. An example of this is the Deep Catacombs of Neopia Central. It’s simply perfect; the dreary colors of the walls are a perfect backdrop as you sit and cry. It also has many corners and secret passageways, which are perfect as being in an open space isn’t private. It’s even below the ground! But because it’s the perfect place, it’s crowded each and every year. So unless you’re there really early in the day, you’ll have to find somewhere else to shed your tears.

If you are a fan of underground, the recent opening of Moltara may be a depressed place for you! It has a bit more color, but there’s lots of privacy and corners to express your sorrows. Just place yourself behind a gear or two and let loose your hardships and anger! And don’t forget to take in the angry atmosphere of your neighbours; that’s important too.

Also on every Grey Day, rain pours down from the clouds underneath Faerieland and splashes Neopia Central wet. If you don’t mind the rain and the feeling of wetness, you can always perch yourself behind the National Neopian and create some rain of your own.

Clothing and Trinkets

What you wear on Grey Day is just as important as your inner emotion – if you don’t look Grey, you won’t be Grey. And trinkets are important too! They add to that sad atmosphere that you are creating.

A Grey Faerie Dress, if you’re a girl, would be an excellent choice. Ripped, patched and unpleasant, this dress cinches the deal for your Grey Day outfit. Add a pair of shoes, and you’re set to go.

For a guy, there aren’t many options for you. But I’m sure the Prigpants and Swolthy Tailors in Neovia would be sadly depressed to make a custom-made grey suit for you. Make a few rips and patch it up, and voila! You just ruined a brand new suit.

As for trinkets, a Single Grey Flower wilting next to you as you shed your tears would make even the most depressed of the Grey Day celebrators even sadder. Combine this with A Grey Day Background, and you won’t even need to pinch yourself to cry.

Food

You can’t go a day without eating food, and eating a Smiley Pizza will just shake many onlookers’ heads. Who knew that many food places in Neopia created grey related foods just for this one day?

You don’t have to eat out in the rain to eat wet soggy food. Both Grey Hot Dogs and Grey Pizza Slices all come with their own personal rain cloud. For dessert, you could have a Grey Cloud Cake or Grey Peach Pie. All food is very expensive and will make you cry even more once you look at your bank balance after eating.

Companion

Even on Grey Day, you need someone to share your sorrows with. A grey petpet is a great way to feel sadder and share your own sorrows. All of these petpets are so mellowed out that they won’t dance or bite your legs.

If you’re curling upon a corner, curl up with an already curled up Grey Cyodrake. As he slowly reaches out and takes a piece of pie you offered him, you’ll cry all the more as you watch his poor timid face.

You could also watch a Grey Faellie’s tear drops as they land on the cold cement sidewalk after you tell her your sob story of the Pant Devil and the Pirate Paint Brush. A Grey Gangee will also open his ears and pay close attention as you tell him any and all worries that you may have.

Color

To really look the part, you need to be painted a good color. While you could celebrate Grey Day with any color, if you want to be Grey to the fullest potential, you simply can’t be certain colors.

Being painted Rainbow, Pink, Faerie, Disco, Cloud or Striped are all no-nos. These colors are too bright and cheerful, and any sort of happiness is banished on Grey Day!

To have a depressing color, try Brown, Darigan, Shadow, Skunk or Silver. While these are not the perfect colors, these are darker (or in the case of Silver, closer to the color grey) and will make you feel darker, or greyer, yourself.

Now of course, the best color you could be painted for Grey Day is the color Grey! So sad and depressing, there is no other color in the Rainbow Pool to make you depressed as this. This automatically dispenses frowns and tears; you’d hardly have to do any work yourself!
