Here are some alternative cures that are very specific. Be sure to read before you buy the item.

Magic Ghost Marshmallows - 3,802 NP

Feeding a Ghost pet 'Magic Ghost Marshmallows' will restore its hit points to their maximum and they will heal your pet from any disease.

For Pteris:

If you feed your Pteri any 'worm' item, your pet will be bloated and healed from any disease.

For Kaus:

If you feed your Kau any 'milk' item, your pet will be bloated and healed from any disease.

But not always are the alternative cures cheaper than the cure for some illnesses. All cures are listed with the average lowest on the SSW. The first 5 illnesses listed are the ones that buying an alternative cure could save you neopoints. The ones listed after that tell you what is the cure is and the average lowest price as well as other alternative cures from Lost Desert Medicine and Remarkable Restoratives. While with the first 5, trying an alternative cure could save you a few thousand or even 90,000, some of the cures are just a small amount more expensive than the alternative cures so if you wanted to save a few hundred neopoints, you can try an alternative cure. For example, say your pet has Doldrums, the cure for that is Mushroom Ointment, which averages out to 6,800 NP. While you can buy the cure for that price, you could try the dangling potion bottle that sells for around 4,400 NP. But I must reiterate that the alternative cures are not 100% guaranteed to work. The only cures that are guaranteed to work is the cures from the pharmacy. Please also note that the Lost Desert Medicine and Remarkable Restoratives may be more expensive than the cure itself.
