Summer Reading List: It's Not Too Late!

by lunafaeire

--------

As the Month of Swimming draws to a close in Neopia, Neopets everywhere are frantic in getting through their summer reading list. If you, like 90% of the population in Neopia, spent way too much time out in the sun and splashing about in the pools, you probably haven't done any proper reading this entire month. (Tsk tsk, what a shame!)

Fret not, for there is still another month to go before we say goodbye to the lovely season that is summer. You have plenty (I think) of time to catch up on your reading until then.

Read on for a list of ten books that will help you feel more intellectual during this lazy month. Yes, yes, don't worry. I know you're probably dreading this list, thinking that is full of difficult literature – but no – all the books listed in today's article are both easy to read and rather enjoyable in this blazing heat. So pull up a chair, pour yourself a glass of lemonade, and enjoy the rest of your summer in a productive manner. You can thank me later. ;)

1. Sun Pop-Up Book

This book was given out in the most recent Advent Calendar. Yes, this means this was given out over six months ago! If you're like me, this book has probably collected dust from sitting so long in your safety deposit box. Well, get it out of there and read it. No, seriously. Read it. You'll be surprised to know how educating this pop-up book really is. Before your book vanishes in a cloud of purple smoke, you will have learnt basic astrology!

2. Sunglasses Book

Contrary to the item description, this book is not wearing sunglasses because it is famous. This book is wearing sunglasses because it knows how important eye protection is in the bright sunshine-filled outdoors during this season. You don't even need to read this book to learn that you too, should take good care of your eyes by wearing shades when you are outdoors, exposed to the sun for long periods. See? Just by looking at the cover of this book, you're more knowledgeable!

3. Too Much Island Sun

Here is a pretty new book, fresh off the press! Published in June of this year, this book lets us Neopians know that there is no such thing as "too much" sun exposure. Well, that is only true if you have the proper sun protection for your skin. Grab a bottle of 30 Proof Kacheek Sun Screen (you do not need to be a Kacheek to use this product) and you're ready to spend the whole day out in the sun reading this book.

4. Scorchio Summer

This book is about a young Scorchio's unexpected adventure during his summer holiday. Since summer isn't over yet, why not read this book to gather some inspiration! Perhaps you'll find yourself in an adventure before we say goodbye to summer for another year. It's never too late to go on an adventure after all!

5. Summertime Connect-the-Dots

This book isn't really that educational... Hey, you didn't think this article would be solely dedicated to the educational stuff, did you? Everyone knows that all work and no play makes a Jetsam dull. So there you go! Enjoy this book of puzzles, guilt-free. Take your mind off of the stressful things. You're welcome. ;)

6. Beach Vacations

The title and description of this book really says it all – this book is for when you just need to get away from it all, even if you're in your living room. Read this lovely travel guide to find out the best beach destinations! (Spoiler alert: Mystery Island has the most amazing sandy beaches!)

7. Winter in Mystery Island

Since you've just read Beach Vacations, you must be wondering what winter is like in Mystery Island. Winter in Mystery Island is the next book you'll want to read. And feel free to cool yourself down with those icicles forming on the edges of this chilly book. Don't you feel more knowledgeable and at the same time cooled down? Not cooled down enough...? Well, the next book should do the trick!

8. The Snow Aisha Adventure

This wintery tale is set in Terror Mountain – it doesn't get any colder than that! This book is made entirely out of snow! Provided it doesn't melt in your warm hands, you will be chilled to the bone (literally). But even if the snow gets the better of you, this clever book comes with a red scarf to warm you right back up!

9. Neggs Through the Seasons

After adjusting back to a comfortable body temperature, you might be wondering "Hey, what is the best season?" You might not like the overwhelming cold of winter or the blazing heat of summer – so what is the perfect season for me? Well, look no further because all your answers can be found in this one book. Neggs Through the Seasons goes through the seasons for every negg. You may not be a negg, but don't worry, it applies to regular Neopets as well. I'm pretty sure you'll learn something from this book. Yup, pretty sure.

10. Sleepy Time

After a long day of reading all these exciting books, you must be feeling pretty restless. All these thoughts running through your head about what winter is like in Mystery Island, or what happens to the Scorchio who went on an adventure after the book ends, and so much more. Well, you mustn't waste any time up at night with these wild thoughts running amuck in your head. Rest that little mind and get some shut-eye. The only way you can truly enjoy the remainder of your summer holiday is to have a well-rested body. To help you calm down and fall asleep, try reading Sleepy Time. This book is a collection of stories written by some of the worst writers in the world. Surely this boring read will help you doze off after an exciting day.

Well, there you have it! Ten books to bring meaning to the remainder of your summer. You've had some fun times in the sun for the better part of this summer so it's about time you check some books off your summer reading list. If you realised how ten books in one day can be a daunting task, maybe next year you'll learn that a little bit a day goes a long way and start going through your summer reading list a little earlier and a little less last minute.

I hope you enjoyed this article as much as I did writing it. In the meantime I am working on a few more pieces for the Neopian Times and hopefully those will get published in the near future for your enjoyment as well.
