15 Overlooked Petpets

by applepowder

--------

Most caring Neopet owners want their pets to eventually have a Petpet. And some Petpets are more famous than others, either because they are featured in games, avatars, or because they can be easily found around Neopia outside of shops.

I'm not here to bash Kadoaties, Snowbunnies, Warfs or Meepits (especially Meepits). They all have legitimate reasons to be popular! But there are hundreds of Petpet species all over Neopia that need homes, and spreading the word of their existence can help these lesser-known critters.

Since many pets choose their Petpets based on how similar or complementary they look to them, I've also included a section about which Neopet species may fit each one of these Petpets. Although some may disagree with my decisions, of course.

     Ganuthor

Ganuthors are often mistaken for statues when sleeping. When awake, however, these Meridellian Petpets make great companions for flying Neopets. They are quite beautiful, even if they always look like they are worried or embarrassed about something.

Colors available: Grey (default), Blue, Brown, Faerie, Ghost, Green, Robot, Tyrannian.

Neopet species that may fit a Ganuthor's appearance: Cybunny, Draik, Gnorbu, Korbat, Shoyru.

     Gypmu

Gypmus are timid Petpets from Geraptiku that may not trust your pets at first. These cute furballs can be given to lonely Neopets that want to give lots of care and attention to their petpets.

Colors available: Yellow (default), Chocolate, Halloween, Snow, Tyrannian, White, Woodland and Zombie.

Neopet species that may fit a Gypmu's appearance: Aisha, Cybunny, Gnorbu, Jubjub, Meerca, Mynci, Wocky.

     Hegelob

Maybe Hegelobs are relatively popular, since a couple of items are designed after it, but I had never heard of them before I started my petpet research. Anyways, Hegelobs are seen as mystical creatures that have many magical powers, and they can be found in the waters of Shenkuu. I find them really pretty, and would love to see a Faerie Draik or Maraquan Bori having Hegelobs to play with.

     Colors available: Green (default), Faerie.

Neopet species that may fit a Hegelob's appearance: Blumaroo, Draik, Flotsam, Gelert, Koi, Peophin, Uni, some other Faerie and Maraquan pets.

     Kiiyak

Kiiyaks love to have friends, even though they are timid, so it may be easy to make them get along with your pet and with other Petpets. They are pretty adorable, too!

Colors available: Brown (default), Plushie, Royal.

Neopet species that may fit a Kiiyak's appearance: Elephante, Eyrie, Kau, Moehog, Uni. Unpainted Kiiyaks may also fit Woodland pets in general.

     Lellefisk

This cute Maraquan Petpet makes a lot of bubbles when it roars, but I doubt it's too aggressive; just look at that face! Even your land-dwelling Neopet will want to make arrangements so they can have a Lellefisk to play with.

Colors available: Blue (default), Brown, Purple, Red.

Neopet species that may fit a Lellefisk's appearance: Tonu, Tuskaninny, Xweetok, Yurble, Wocky. Some Maraquan pets that also complement its appearance are Chia, Moehog, Tonu and Zafara.

     Magtile

Magtiles come from Tyrannia, and are said to be quite violent; maybe this is one of the reasons why they are not so popular. Of course, every Petpet deserves attention and respect, but this may be a Petpet only for stronger or more cautious Neopets.

Colors available: White (default), Ghost, Magma, Stealthy.

Neopet species that may fit a Magtile's appearance: Flotsam, Grarrl, Hissi, Jetsam, Kyrii, Skeith.

     Quadrone

Quadrones are quite clumsy, but can be very fast. It might be ideal to arrange for a huge area somewhere in or around your Neohome for your Quadrone to run around without bumping into anything if your Neopet is planning on keeping one.

Colors available: Yellow (default), Blue, Fire, Green, Red.

Neopet species that may fit a Quadrone's appearance: Grundo, Kiko, Poogle, Quiggle, Ruki.

     Slogmok

Slogmoks are sweet Geraptiku Petpets that kind of just lay around. They are perfect for Neopets that don't want to deal with active Petpets that run around wreaking havoc, but remember they also need love and care!

Colors available: Brown (default), Eventide, Faerie, Ghost, Mutant, Purple, Water.

Neopet species that may fit a Slogmok's appearance: Blumaroo, Chia, Kougra, Lutari, Mynci, Usul.

     Teasqito

Teasqitos come from Faerieland, and like to munch on Tealeefs. Their jolly nature might make them good companions for your pets!

Colors available: Yellow (default), Green, Red.

Neopet species that may fit a Teasqito's appearance: Buzz, Grundo, Jubjub, Kau, Quiggle, Techo.

     Teemite

Teemites also come from Faerieland, and always look sad. Maybe giving them a home and playing with them will make them less sad, regardless of how they look...?

Colors available: Blue (default), Disco, Faerie, Fire, Green, Halloween, Pink, Rainbow, Red, Snow, Spotted, White, Woodland, Yellow.

Neopet species that may fit a Teemite's appearance: Acara, Buzz, Lenny, Skeith, Tonu, Uni, Vandagyre, some other Faerie and Grey pets.

     Turtmid

Sort of like Yooyus, Turtmids can curl up to protect themselves. But while Yooyus turn into balls, Turtmids turn into pyramids, and there's no sport inspired by that (yet). While a Turmid's pyramid-shaped shell can seem like it only fits a Desert Neopet, these critters deserve to have a wider range of Neopian homes.

Colors available: Brown (default), Green, Island, Valentine

Neopet species that may fit a Turtmid's appearance: Chomby, Koi, Krawk, Ruki, Scorchio.

     Tyrowbee

Although they may not look like it, Tyrowbees are from the Haunted Woods. They are always terrified, so they need a Neopet that can give them some reassurance.

Colors available: Orange (default), Black, Blue, Christmas, Faerie, Ghost, Rainbow, Red, Snow, Zombie

Neopet species that may fit a Tyrowbee's appearance: Acara, Gelert, Ixi, Kougra, Poogle, Ruki, Techo.

     Werhond

Werhonds are aggressive Petpets from the Haunted Woods. They are known for their powerful bite, so this isn't the ideal Petpet for a weak Neopet! A Werhond might be a fearsome ally if your Neopet gains its trust somehow, though.

Colors available: Brown (default), Faerie, Fire, Magma, Mutant, Tyrannian, Yellow.

Neopet species that may fit a Werhond's appearance: Lupe, Ogrin, Skeith, Yurble. Certain Darigan and Halloween pets would surely be a better fit, though.

     Wherfy

These Petpets are known to be quick and either cautious or timid: they only leave their burrows when it's snowing. Then again, they come from Terror Mountain, where snow is far from rare.

Colors available: Blue (default), Eventide, Faerie, Grey, Plushie, Snow, Stealthy, Zombie.

Neopet species that may fit a Wherfy's appearance: Aisha, Bori, Cybunny, Korbat, Uni, Vandagyre, Wocky, Xweetok, Zafara.

     Zumagorn

This mischievous Faerie Petpet loves playing tricks on other Petpets, so potential owners, beware! This prankster will require a Neopet that can both keep an eye on it and not be too strict so it doesn't get too bored.

Colors available: Red (default), Blue, Christmas, Glowing, Green, Water, Yellow.

Neopet species that may fit a Zumagorn's appearance: Blumaroo, Draik, Gelert, Hissi, Korbat, Scorchio.

And that's it for now! Of course, there are many other interesting Petpet species out there, and I hope everyone does their research to find the perfect Petpet for each pet. But I hope you've learned more about Petpets by reading this article. Until next time!
