900 Weewoos Over Neopia by platinum_marauder
--------
Countless shining stars light up the night sky over Neopia Central. If any were awake at this hour they could look up into this mesmerizing sea of diamonds above, smile, and ponder the brilliance of the universe. Though the stars were breathtaking, there was another reason that this night was one to be remembered. For tomorrow when dawn comes, Neopians throughout the lands will awake to a landmark issue of the Neopian Times sitting on their doorstep, waiting to be read by them. Issue 900, sure to be the greatest one yet. In the back of the Neopian Time’s printing facility, an enormous gathering of white Weewoos sit perched on the various platforms, watching the papers print beneath. There is an energy in the room, one of excitement and anticipation. The Weewoos know what their mission will be tonight, how important this task is. All nine hundred of them. The papers soon come off the press, dusky black ink atop glossy white paper, pictures and comics of every colour. The Weewoos are prepared as the papers roll into the colourful sacks beneath, each one unique to the Weewoo who carries it. Once they have their designated papers, they stroll over to the large open door and look out into the silent darkness. This is their realm for the night. They will glide across the land, making sure everyone can read the monumental issue that sits upon their back. Once all issues are bundled and packed, the Weewoos begin their flight. The large sacks of papers sit gently upon their backs. The Petpet’s strength is remarkable for its size. They take their places among the sea of stars, flying out in all directions, cool winds guiding their way. The sheer number of Petpets sporting bags of all colours makes for a truly breathtaking sight. The journey begins in Neopia Central and will spread to all the lands. The dead of night leaves no sound, save for the mellow snores of the Money Tree. The stars give enough light to make out the closed stores, surrounded by dark trees. If one concentrated hard enough they could most likely hear the soft thuds as a paper drops onto the doorstep of every shop. Perhaps they could even hear the gentle flapping of wings from the Petpets above, as they glide off to other lands. Their work here is now done, and the stars guide them on their way. Some of the Weewoos head north, some south and east and west. On the shores and docks of Kiko Lake, the water smoothly lurches back and forth. There is a similar scene northward at Roo Island. Though quiet now, once morning comes the island will awake once again to fun and cheers and games all day long. The party never ends, and now they can celebrate the arrival of the 900th Neopian Times as well. From here the Weewoos head directly south, arriving in the kingdom of Brightvale. Papers are dropped left and right, lining the buildings that line the paths. If none knew better they may almost think that the Scrollery had had an accident, and its contents had been blown throughout the kingdom. But like everywhere else the residents had anticipated this day and the arrival of their papers. The Weewoos glide upwards, into the kingdom of Meridell. Guards atop the tallest castle towers salute the Petpets as they arrive, anticipating the morning to come. A paper falls into each of their hands, but it shall not be read until dawn. They shall wait until morning, and read along with everyone else. More papers drop, and the Petpets make their way northward, past Illusen’s Glade. An issue is dropped for her, and they continue on their way. From here the Weewoos split up once again. Some head northward, for the tall mountain beyond and the prehistoric land next to it. Some head east, towards the island lands. Some issues have been waterproofed, to be dropped into the sea for the citizens of Maraqua. Not a single Pet shall be left out. At Krawk Island, where many lie sleeping on their docked ships, papers are dropped in front of the houses and ships alike. While above, at Mystery Island, the papers are dropped in front of every hut, and even into the forest above, for the natives will also be reading this issue. The flock that flew to Terror Mountain now descends on Happy Valley. The soft snow upon the ground is heavy tonight, a cold nip in the air. The Weewoos are unfazed by this. Their feathers keep them warm, and determination to see their mission through leaves a fire in their hearts. A bundle is dropped for residents of the ice caves, another dropped on the ski lift for carrying up the mountain. The snow is too heavy up there for the flock to ascend. The flock continues to Tyrannia. Even if some can’t read, the pictures in Issue 900 will undoubtedly leave the residents satisfied and happy. Northern Neopia is now taken care of. These Weewoos fly home. Another group of Weewoos has meanwhile gone southward and arrived in Faerieland. The faeries have always loved the Neopian Times and eagerly awaited this issue. A few issues are dropped on the outskirts for the few faeries living there, and many more coat the paths of Faerie City. One Weewoo flies up to the gates of the castle and leaves an issue for Fyora herself. The work here is done, and the flock flies away from the magical city, heading left towards the Haunted Woods. A thick fog covers the Haunted Woods, as it always does. The land that never seems to sleep, eerie groans and howls can be heard from among the trees. An issue is dropped for Esophagor, though he may try to eat it, and one for the Brain Tree, who always wants to expand his knowledge. More issues are taken around, to the Fairground, to Neovia, and the Petpets are on their way once more. In the Lost Desert, the cool of night deceives the heat of day. The Weewoos shudder, thinking of how much harder it would be to traverse the desert in the scorching daylight. Papers are dropped in Sakhmet, then down in Qasala. The flight continues, past the western mountains and into Altador and Shenkuu, both ancient and magnificent lands. The Weewoos marvel at the mighty Shenkuu waterfall, gawk at the Altador Colosseum, and head towards their home. The work here is now done. The flock at Mystery Island now continue on their quest, eastward. Beneath sits the entrance to Moltara, a city that lies so very deep. The Weewoos drop their sacks, and the remaining issues tumble down into the depths of the grand city. Continuing east, the Petpets drop a handful of issues into the swirling whirlpools beneath. One can only hope they find their way to Lutari Island… Dawn will be here soon. The lights of a new day can now be seen rising with the sun in the distance. But the journey is not over yet. The last of the Weewoos hover in the air, eagerly awaiting a visit from the Coincidence. Once it arrives, they hand over the Issues. Dr Landelbrot, will happily take the last of the issues up to Virtupets Space Station and Kreludor for the Petpets. The mission is now done. All issues have been delivered. The sun rises, marking the start of a new day. Neopians everywhere hurriedly rush to their doors, scooping up the new issue which awaits each and every one of them. It is now time to read what is sure to be one of the best issues yet. Throughout the lands the residents rejoice upon grabbing the new issue, eagerly opening it for reading. Meanwhile, back at their nests, the Weewoos sleep silently, satisfied with their hard work, due to which everyone shall now experience joy. The nine hundred Weewoos have successfully made Issue 900 a reality. The End.
