Six Reasons Why Neggs are so Popular and Appreciated by mimiweasley
--------
Neggs. Is there a more versatile and… maybe, depending on the point of view, eccentric, food in Neopia? Perhaps not. Perhaps pizza or hot dogs can be more versatile, but speaking in terms of eccentricity, they would never reach the Negg spectrum. Is there a 00 Pizza? A Silver Knight Hot Dog? A Happy Burger? I don’t think so. Taking a ride with the Festival of Neggs hype, this (very) unbiased article will discuss why Neggs are so popular in Neopia and how this popularity shows in Neopian everyday life. In other words, what do Neggs have that other exclusive Neopian foods do not? The reasons can vary from Negg enthusiast to Negg enthusiast, but the six main reasons why are listed below! 1. As stated above, they can be very – and I emphasize, very - versatile. Many neopians – me included – are avid collectors. Collections can vary in shapes and sizes and final objectives, but one thing is certain: you will probably cross your path with a Negg path. Faerie-themed item collector? Check the Faerie Queen Negg… and there is even a Negg Faerie (hi, Kari!). Stamp Collector? There are four Negg-related stamps. Are you a stat-booster collector? Power Negg and Armoured Negg were made for you. Card Collectors, clothing hoarders, book readers, there is always something involving Neggs in one way or another. You can’t escape them! Also, even when speaking exclusively of food items, Neggs come in all shapes and sizes. You can have regular ones, like the Negg itself and its coloured variations such as Orange, Purple, Green and Yellow, and the “still regular, but fancier” ones like the Mosaic, Lime Swirly, Speckled, Icy and Candy Cane. You can also feed your pets recipes made of Neggs, such as Neggnogs, Negg Juice, Negg Lasagna, Negg pies, Negg Soup and the somehow disturbing Steak Negg. 2. They can be Gourmet Food! There are more than twenty Negg-shaped or Negg-related Gourmet foods. The fanciest pets can have the privilege to enjoy a very well made Funnydew Neggnog (rarity 93) or a Heart-Shaped Negg (rarity 92) and increase their chances of becoming an Honorary Gourmet Club member. Some Gourmet Neggs can be very expensive, but they are needed steps on the Gourmet Club ladder, and the best part is that they are restockable mainly on the Food Shop! 3. They have their own exclusive shop – The Neggery – and their own exclusive point system! The Neggery is a shop located in the Ice Caves. It is normally taken care by Kari, the Negg Faerie, but, during the Negg Festival, a helper takes care of the store, since Kari is very busy with hiding Neggs for Neopians to find with the help of Topsi. As Kari says, in there you can exchange your “boring looking” Neggs for “powerful, magical ones”. We all know there are no boring Neggs, but the Neggs sold in the Neggery are indeed powerful and magic. There are stat-boosters like the Snegg (which gives movement) and the Power Negg (which gives strength), weapons like the Swift Darkfire Negg Bomb, and other funny uses, like the Kaleidonegg, which is a stat booster (can increase level and hit points) but will also change your Neopet colour to one of the four basic ones. Worth it? Well, it is a Negg, so… maybe yes? How do you acquire Negg points? By buying regular Neggs on shops (both the main Neopian shop or user shops) and exchanging them by the equivalent amount of points they are worth. The regular Negg is worth one point; Purple Negg is worth two points, and so on. Not all Neggs are worth Negg points, so beware! But they are all worthy, do not mistake that. 4. They have their own Festival! Neopets itself is full of events. There is a Faerie Festival, in which Faeries kindly give Neopians one quest a day for an entire week. There is also the very well known Altador Cup, which brings the best Yooyuball players from all lands to fight between themselves for the right to be called the great champions for at least a year. The Plots are also huge events. Neggs couldn’t stay outside, and they are so popular that they have their own event: The Festival of Neggs. It is held once a year, normally during the Month of Eating, and is very similar to a hunt: Neggs are hidden by Kari and her helper, Topsi, all around Neopia. You can find one Negg a day, and they allow you to choose some prizes depending on the Neggs you find. Many of those prizes are Negg-related, and some are even collectables and have a great value when sold to other users (like all Neggs, of course)! 5. They have characters based on them! Kari, the Negg Faerie, is just one of the many existing characters that have any kind of relationship to Neggs. Puzzle lovers may remember the Neggbreaker, a big overdeveloped Hasee that lurked the Clockwork Negg and loved going after powerful Neggs. The Neggnapper is the Neggbreakers’s brother, and is known for his love for stealing Neggs, first for fun, then for revenge after his brother was defeated. Topsi is a Cybunny who is Kari’s helper during the Festival of Neggs. The Negg-Gazer is a blue Chia who claims to be able to see the future by staring at Crystal Neggs. Whether this is true or not, we cannot tell for sure, but it is better to be safe than sorry. 6. They have games based on them! Who has never played Meerca Chase I or II? The smiley yellow Meerca that is the main character of the game runs around a field and win points by collecting Neggs. Some of our most known Neggs make appearances in this game, such as the Fish Negg and the Happy Negg. There is also the Neggsweeper, a simple board game in which you can hunt Neggs by clicking in squares in a field. Once a number appears, it indicates how many Neggs are there in the adjacent squares. Sounds simple, but requires lots of strategy and attention, and, of course, a little bit of luck to finish the game. There is also another puzzle, the Clockwork Negg: once a day you are able to solve a puzzle proposed by the Negg and, if you manage to solve it, you can open it and win a prize. Puzzles vary, but they all involve nine different combinations of three shapes and three colours. In the light of the Festival of Neggs, this article is brought to you as a way of showing how much Neggs are appreciated by Neopians in general. Perhaps your reason for appreciation is not listed above, but one this is for sure: Neggs are very valuable and very much loved!
