--------
Renee the faerie Wocky loved adventure. She and her best
friend were a weird pair, though. Charlie, the faerie Gelert, was rather prone
to phobias. He was afraid of a lot of things, but Renee knew how to make him get
up and go. The key was a white chocolate Gelert. Charlie loved those. He hated
it when he was lured into doing things he hated with them. Renee knew she was
in control with one of them around.
"Oh, Charlie!" Renee echoed throughout the Neohome
they shared.
"What is it now, Renee? I'm busy reading The
Mystery of the Kougra Paw!"
"It's time for dinner!"
"I thought we were going to the Faerie Food
Store!"
Something's fishy here, I know it! Renee
never cooks! Charlie was suspicious.
"Uh… I forgot! Anyway, I cooked your favorite!"
"Carrot and Pea Omelette…? Oh, boy!"
Charlie ran right over to the dining room. Carrot
and Pea Omelette was his second favorite, almost tied with White Chocolate Gelerts.
"Mm, mm, mm! Good!" Charlie shook his head back
and forth, with his eyes closed, so he never saw his food, and dug right into
his plate. Sure enough, it was a White Chocolate Gelert.
"Chocolate… chocolate… chocolate… CHOCOLATE!!"
Charlie yelled and ran around the Neohome. "CHOCOLATE!"
"Oh, Charlie! I've got some more here! Just
come with me, out of our house to Terror Mountain and…" Charlie zipped out the
door and waited for Renee halfway across the garden.
"CHOCOLATE, Renee! CHOCOLATE!"
Maybe I should have only given him half of
one… Renee thought to herself.
"RENEE!"
"All right, all right, I'm coming!" She ran
out of the house.
Charlie was all the way down the hall. He was
jumping up and down, non-stop. He ran down the stairs so fast, no one could
go as fast, even if they fell.
"Charlie! You don't even know where we're going!"
Renee yelled from the top of the stairs.
"Where, where, WHERE?!"
Renee sighed. "Terror Mountain, of course! Where
else?"
"Let's…" Charlie ran so fast, Renee couldn't
hear anymore. She ran off after him.
Charlie and Renee ran right through Neopia,
disturbing every resident they passed. They nearly wrecked the Book Shop and
the Soup Kitchen.
Charlie made it up to Terror Mountain a few
minutes before Renee. When she got up, the White Chocolate Gelert started to
wear out, so she bought another at the Igloo Garage Sale.
The chocolate wore out so much, Charlie was
able to sit still through what Renee had to say. "Well, Charlie. We've made
it this far, and I bet you're pretty tired right about now. So, let's agree
that we'll go to the top, okay? Are we in agreement?"
"Yep, yep, yep!"
"Okay, I'll give you a White Chocolate Gelert,
and we'll go! Okay? You ready?"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah! I'm ready! Let's go!"
Renee threw the chocolate at Charlie, who caught
it with his mouth and ate it. He stood there for a second and then jumped up
with a yelp.
"Let's go, Renee! We don't have all day!" Charlie
ran to right under the peak.
Renee eventually caught up, but it took her
a while. She started to think that this little trip wasn't such a good idea.
Terror Mountain always frightened Charlie, and he wouldn't go up for anything,
except a White Chocolate Gelert, like he just had. Although he had the chocolate,
the extremes of the mountain made it wear off.
"Hmmm.... What… What? Where am I? What happened?
Renee? Renee, did you use a… White Chocolate Gelert on me again? Tell me the
truth."
"Well, yes. But, we're already here, so there
isn't much we can do."
"Can't we just… Wait… Where exactly did you
make me go again? Wait, don't tell me. This looks familiar…" Charlie gasped.
"We're… we're… We're on Terror Mountain, aren't we?"
"…Yeah. Sorry." Renee got a bit nervous. Charlie
seemed calm at first, but she was one of the few who knew exactly what he would
do.
Charlie stood up on his hind legs and covered
his front legs with his paws to keep warm. "Renee! You know how much I despise
this place! I can't stand the cold! I…"
"Uh… Charlie you might want to be a quieter…
I mean…"
"Why should I? You dragged me here when you
know, quite well, that I hate Terror Mountain! We're best friends! Why would
Neopets as close as us…"
"Charlie, you might start an avalanche."
"AN AVALANCHE!? IT'LL BE YOUR FAULT IF THERE
IS ONE!" Charlie echoed through out Terror Mountain. They heard a roaring sound
out near the very top of the mountain.
"Yes, an avalanche," Renee snapped. "We better
get out of here!"
"Well, we can't just stand here, now can we?"
"Arguing is not going to help, believe it or
not! Now, just be quiet and come on!" Renee was very annoyed. She knew this
was her fault, but Charlie didn't have to act this way.
They ran down the mountain as fast as they could.
Occasionally, they would trip over a rock, but quickly recovered. The roaring
snow picked up speed, and kept traveling. It wouldn't stop. Renee and Charlie
had run as much as they could and they were too tired to continue.
"Any ideas?" Renee just hoped Charlie wouldn't
snap back at her.
"Well, we can either build a tunnel, but that
would take too long. We could get a sled but…" Charlie seemed to have calmed
down.
Renee though for a minute. "Hmm…" She saw a
small log nearby. "Charlie! The sled idea might just work! C'mon!" She hopped
over onto the log and Charlie followed. They sat down on it, but had some trouble
starting it. They grunted as they made their attempts on the log.
"C'mon, Charlie! Both at once! As hard as you
can! Now!!" Renee and Charlie were both straining themselves to get the log
going. The avalanche's snow wasn't far behind. They could hear it roaring down
the mountainside.
"MOVE!" Renee yelled and started another smaller
avalanche, adding to the snow about to crush them. They both pushed as hard
as their legs would allow, and the log moved. They pushed more and more and
they were going just as fast as the avalanche itself. They picked up more speed.
"This is kind of… fun! Wahoo!" Charlie was actually
having a good time.
Renee was surprised. Charlie was the kind of
Gelert that would stay at home and read a book on a perfect day to go out, and
now he was having fun going log sledding. "I guess this is pretty fun! Except
for the fact that we're sledding from an avalanche! Duck for less air resistance!"
They both ducked, and picked up more speed. "ROCK!" Renee spotted a rock, and
they both jerked to the left and avoided it.
Charlie's eyes lit up. "Renee! Let's go to the
right, so the rock will be behind us! It's big, and probably strong enough to
stop it! A little bit of snow will escape to the side, going even faster. The
escaped snow won't be dangerous, only unpleasant to hit."
"I'm pretty happy you're well-read!" Renee was
happy. They jerked to the right; now the boulder was behind them. They turned
around to watch what would happen. The boulder stopped some of the snow, and
some went to the side, and escaped. The escaped snow whizzed right by them.
They could hardly see it.
"We're safe," Renee said with a big smile. "We're
safe."
They made it down the mountain safely, and all
the locals wondered why they were sitting on a log when they crashed into one
of the igloos.
"Why did you come rocketing down the mountain
on a log?" a young, curious Yurble queried.
Renee and Charlie smiled and replied, "It's
a long story!" They laughed as they got off the log and headed home.
