Halloween Spirit in the Haunted Woods: A How-To

by randompurplepigs

--------

It's October, which means it's finally time for another season of tricks and treats! What better way to get into the mood than a trip to The Haunted Woods? Whether you're in for a real scare or just want to indulge in sweets, there's a little something for everyone. It can be easy to feel overwhelmed with so much to do, but we're here to help you get into the spirit with a list of fun activities to do and advice on what places to visit!

     #10 Spooky Food

Tricks and treats galore line the shelves at the Spooky Food store. From the adorable Bat Cookie to the freaky Screamed Corn, there's enough variety to make any Neopian happy during the Halloween season. For a sweet treat, I recommend the Vanilla Ghost Cake and the Haunted Milk. These ghostly treats are a perfect match for each other. If you or your Neopet are the adventurous types who love a fright, I recommend the Spooky Raspberry Pie and the Chilled Eyeball Custard. But a word of warning: if you don't like your food to look at you while you eat, I'd skip those two tricky treats!

     #9 Neovia

This bright spot in the otherwise dreary Haunted Woods is a must-see. If you find yourself faint-hearted, Neovia is a wonderful place to sit down and relax after wandering through the Haunted Woods. The Neovian Printing Press is the perfect place for Neopets who prefer their frights in the form of words. If the Spooky Food store wasn't your style, why not stop by The Crumpetmonger? Their baked goods are top-notch! Nothing frightening about these baked goods, except how much you'll want to buy. Maybe you're looking for something more, though - something that shows how much you love the Halloween season. Well, Prigpants & Swolthy is the place for you. Two lovely tailors run this shop, and their clothes will have you look like you fit in with the locals in no time.

     #8 The Deserted Fairground

So you've visited Neovia and it's not scary enough for you... No worries, as The Deserted Fairground is right around the corner. Castle Nox looms over the fairgrounds, though the threat of what lays inside the castle seems to have been quelled years ago. Why not stop by the Wheel of Misfortune to test your chances? Such a dastardly wheel is the perfect test of courage for a trick-loving Neopian. Maybe you'll have better luck buying a scratch card from Sidney, the eccentric Nimmo who runs the scratch card booth. If you want to take a little bit of the Haunted Woods home with you, don't forget to stop by Spooky Furniture. It'll be like having a slice of Halloween in your home year-round.

     #7 Haunted Woods Colouring

Hey, you - Neopian reading this... Did you know that you can join in the fun too? When you visit the Haunted Woods this season, don't forget to stop by the Haunted Woods Colouring page. There are forty colouring pages available for you to colour in any way you want. For a fun challenge, try colouring them using a different method than you usually use. Watercolour, pens, a computer program, crayons – it’s up to you. Make sure to share your pictures with your friends so they can see your spooky art!

     #6 Neopet Masks

What’s that? You want to *be* a Neopet for Halloween? Well, the Haunted Woods might just have a little something to get you started. Make sure to visit the Neopet Masks page to get your very own mask, modelled after several types of Neopets! Whether you want to be a cuddly Cybunny or a kooky Korbat, this page will help you out. While not every Neopet has a mask available, don’t let that stop you. Try taking inspiration from the patterns and make your own mask. Either way, you’re sure to look great this Halloween.

     #5 Spooky Petpets

What Halloween-loving Neopet is complete without a spooky Petpet? These cute critters will fit in just right with your Neopet. They don’t just look good during Halloween – these Petpets are stylish all year round. Some of the spooky Petpets are overlooked because of how they look, but you’re sure to find a lifelong friend for your Neopet if you adopt one.

     #4 The Brain Tree

A trip to the Haunted Woods isn’t a trip without a visit to the Brain Tree, who is one of the oldest residents of the area. This wise tree is practically synonymous with the Haunted Woods. He may look scary, but if you help him out, he has a wealth of information to share. A trip to the Brain Tree wouldn’t be right without a trip to our next entry, though…

     #3 The Esophagor

The Esophagor is another Haunted Woods staple. This strange creature has been around for longer than most and has smarts that rival the Brain Tree. To help out the Brain Tree, you’ll have to help the Esophagor find food. He’s not going to give away his knowledge for free! Running errands may seem like a funny way to get into the spirit of the season, but there’s no doubt that helping out the Esophagor and the Brain Tree makes you feel like a real resident of the Haunted Woods.

     #2 Edna’s Tower

While Edna’s Tower may appear spooky from the outside, the green Zafara inside of it isn’t. Sure, she may cackle and brew strange potions, but she’s more than happy to reward any Neopian who helps her out. Edna is another famous resident of the Haunted Woods who has been around for quite some time. As a witch, she spends most of her time practicing new spells, hence her need for Neopians to help her out. Hey, no one said visiting the Haunted Woods is easy!

#1 Halloween Paint Brushes & Ghost Paint Brushes

While this guide is full of fun things to do to put you in the Halloween spirit, there is nothing that tops painting your Neopet Ghost or Halloween. Cute pumpkins, scary vampires, ghastly ghosts, and many more options await your Neopets. The Halloween Paintbrush is extra fun because your Neopets will be able to wear their costume whenever they want, even in the middle of Spring!

With that, the guide on how to get into the Halloween spirit this year comes to an end. While the Haunted Woods has many places to visit, I hope this guide helps you pick a select few places to visit and things to do this season!

Happy Halloween to all Neopets & Neopians!
